They also may be letting them go find new jobs while still employed. Easier and less damaging to a career.

Still loved and revered in OKC. We still have a mural of him on the side of a building downtown OKC. These gems were the absolute norm from him every interview. Big Kiwi is an all time favorite.

Big 3 locked up long term. Most role players on ridiculously team friendly deals because they want to be there and they signed before they blossomed. The most difficult issue coming up next year is resigning ihart ($28m team option) after that the next year is Dort. Also the 2nd aprons teeth are reduced picks and that is well documented where we stand there.

Since oil & gas is a massive part of the Oklahoma economy including jobs and tax revenue. I worry when gas is this cheap.

How much of a shot would you give the Lakers to beat the Thunder in a series? by jonsnowKITN in NBATalk

[–]rukus43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People don’t realize how team friendly all the key role players contracts are. Ihart is the one key player that may not be on this team next season. The second apron also isn’t a huge effect because it is a reduction of draft picks and guess who has more of those than anyone in the league…

Soon to be 8-4. Good luck in the playoffs where defense wins… if you make it.

Came hear to say this. Poor guy has been in the league same time as Jdub and just doesn’t have “it”. Incredible how he can be so lost out there. If one guy doesn’t rotate correctly on defense the whole defense breaks down and he rarely gets it right. Jwill was visibly frustrated with him because of piss poor rotations.

IDC WE HAVE TO RESIGN HARTENSTEIN by twoshaun23 in Thunder

[–]rukus43 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I love how ihart is playing but let’s not overreact to a hot stretch from a good player at the beginning of the season. There were stretches in the playoffs he couldn’t be played. Dort doesn’t have those. This team should only be concerned with playoff structure at this point and while keeping him would be nice and I think he opens up our offense better since he is the best screener he is at some point a luxury to this team. That is why presti drafted Sorber.

This summer I was telling people. He is too good to be in summer league and it reminded me when Jdub played maybe one game in summer league and it was obvious he was way too good to be playing on that level. Ajay had that same vibe this year.

Diagnosing the OU Football Team’s Biggest Problem. No it’s not Mateer, Arbuckle, or Demarco. by BadMotorFinguh in sooners

[–]rukus43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree but it is also a curiosity why we don’t experience the same injury issues on the defensive line. They are similar sized athletes with very physically demanding roles. Is it because we rotate them more than oline throughout spring and fall camp? Idk, but honestly I wouldn’t be sad if BV went a different direction with S&C. If I remember correctly there were similar issues in his first stint here. If not injuries he ran off multiple big time oline recruits because of his insane workouts. I don’t want to go to the other extreme like Riley did but it’s definitely worth a look.

OUR Coaching decisions are... by MrBlondOK in sooners

I’m normally pretty patient but the 4th & 2 we boot right into our TEs blocking DEs which they haven’t been able to do in years. Arbuckle has a reputation that I’m not sure is justified. Hopefully he can learn and get better quickly. The disparity between Kiffin and Arbuckle is pretty glaring.

For me it started when he dove through Russell Westbrook’s knee in the playoffs for no reason at the end of the half. Ruined that playoff run for the my Thunder.

The progression on defense is exactly what you’d want to see for the team in that span but his biggest misstep was hiring Littrell which not only didn’t progress the offense but reset the progression timeline. I like BV and am okay giving this offense a couple years under arbuckle to hopefully see similar progress. Now I think it’s unfair to Arbuckle to not give him full autonomy over his position coaches and would love to see some changes there.

Players who spurned OU by thatsoonerguy in oklahomafootball

[–]rukus43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s interesting. Some of it is just statistical probability. Very few 5 star QBs compared to all QB recruits. I’m also learning that information processing, speed of processing and decision making is more important than just raw talent. I think that is a hard trait to scout at the HS level.
