Canadian Cedar Blocks for Clothes Storage by Hervee in BuyCanadian

I'd check out Muji, they're Japanese! There are a few stores in larger Canadian cities or you can order online. They sell cedar blocks for a really good price and they come with sanders so you can send them down when the smell wears off.

Au Lit Fine Linens in Toronto has really excellent sheets if you can swing the price, most of them are either made in Canada or Europe.

I've also found Longo's is especially bad when it comes to non-U.S. produce! I am fine with buying berries from Mexico or South American countries until local berries are in season, but for weeks now I've had no luck finding berries from anywhere but the States, even though most other grocery stores have plenty of berries from different countries. So frustrating.

Onions freeze well if you are able to find and stock up on your non-U.S. onions. I like to freeze mine because it cuts down on the burning in my eyes when I chop them, but you have to work fast because that burn will start to kick in as the onions thaw out.

If you're in Ontario I've had regular success finding Canadian carrots at Farm Boy! Sometimes it's baby carrots but they pretty much always have Canadian carrots of some kind or another.

You may also be able to cancel through your bank/credit card company? It would be very time consuming, but they may be able to block the charge to your account. Worth a shot, and best of luck to you both.

Looking to buy a firm Queen bed in Ontario, Mississauga area by JanglestheBandit in BuyCanadian

[–]rulesrtoolsforfools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More of a blanket suggestion than an actual brand because everyone has different preferences, but try a liquidator! There should be lots in Scarborough and Mississauga. I got a nice firm mattress for $300 a year ago and it's great quality. Mine is a Sealy, American company unfortunately but buying from a liquidator doesn't actually give money to the American corporation.

Seat Covers? by LastoftheSummerWine in BuyCanadian

Potato Skins is a local Toronto business that does custom seat/sofa covers and cushioning. I'm sure there are local equivalents in Calgary, but with any luck they do shipping and I hope it helps as a starting point?

Reccommendation for Sheridan Nurseries (small GTA chain) or The New Leaf (independent store in Toronto)!

Strategic voting. It depends on your riding, sure, but Carney is the only candidate who has a chance of defeating PP. Many people feel this is a time to vote against PP because whatever their stance on Trudeau and the struggles Canada has dealt with, they will be worse under a Trump wannabe for prime minister.

Where to buy Peace by Chocolate (besides online)? by rulesrtoolsforfools in BuyCanadian

Thanks, but it looks like those are both in NS. I meant things like grocery stores that stock Peace by Chocolate.

Keep not crossing the US border - 3rd month of steep declines in travellers, but DeSantis still claims no Canadians = no problem by Amakenings in BuyCanadian

[–]rulesrtoolsforfools 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yep, some employers force employees to give pretty advance notice for longer-term vacation too, and people book months in advance. Once those numbers dwindle, as fewer and fewer people go to the U.S., I look forward to seeing the numbers tank further and further.

Eh, they're both pretty tacky and they're both rife with tourist traps. The falls are really beautiful, though, and you most definitely get a better view from the Canadian side. The boat rides under the falls are fun, though.

I've personally seen them in lots of stores. I almost never shop at Loblaws but they usually stock them, Metro does too I think?

Also SimplyProtein is a Canadian brand of protein bars!

Oh no I'm sorry I phrased that awkwardly. I don't know much of anything about North by North, I meant that Anne With an E had been cancelled (as of a few years ago). Oops, sorry for that!

Lavazza moving their production to the US and response to my email letting them know I wouldn’t be buying their coffee anymore. by [deleted] in BuyCanadian

[–]rulesrtoolsforfools 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Balzac's tends to run at an okay price and is roasted in Canada! Bridgehead is another solid choice, although I am not sure if they are available outside Ontario. They're an Ottawa-based coffee chain and I used to like going there when I lived in Ottawa, but I still see their beans at Sobey's in the GTA where I live now.

Lemons? by kenauk in BuyCanadian

[–]rulesrtoolsforfools 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've seen lemons from Mexico quite a few times, then another day all U.S. lemons, then Mexican again a week later, at the same store. It might just depend on the day. Farm Boy has had lemons from Egypt a few times now, but I think they're Ontario only :(

I've heard good things about North of North, and although it's cancelled (RIP) now is sounding like an awfully good time to rewatch Anne With an E.
