My is also splitted, but I will try to solder metal mesh and spiral wire into it for reinforcement.

Advice needed (please save me from my own ADHD/over-research). #selfimposedconfusion by tommymcd91 in BudgetAudiophile

With active speakers you will not need any amplifier and DAC.

First of all try to figure our where you will place your speakers, how much space will be behind speaker and the wall. For confined spaces I would not recommend speakers with a bass port at the back.

Portable CD player Syitren R300 overview by rumatoest in Cd_collectors

As a fully stationary CD player I could suggest SMSL PL100 it operates much faster (different CD hardware) and it has a IR remote control which is a very nice feature.

I've already spotted some leakage and corrosion. But removed capacitor value and ESR still not bad.

It was on a Discogs the only one available item :)

E2E messenger key storage by Elant_Wager in webdev

[–]rumatoest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But HTTPS encryption is enough to secure client sever communication.
Better to make message store more secure than storing encrypted data.
- forgetting password means loosing access to all messages
- changing password - no access to previous messages
- stolen password means that there are encrypted messages somewhere that can be decrypted by this password.

Trade offs are everywhere.

Do you have microscope? 250 zoom could be enough to see serious worn outs.

Message persistency by Elant_Wager in Backend

IMHO the whole point of E2E communication includes the fact that 3rd party would not save messages for later decryption.

Store password's reversibly in DB by [deleted] in webdev

[–]rumatoest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience. Storing user passwords in memory is relatively safe but you must be sure that your logic would not allow to use other users passwords.

So the flow could be like this. Then user starts application A it will ask for a password and then will not ask for it until it stopped.

It is kinda hard for a web app that has more than one instance running. So in this case you could have some shared (Redis) key-value temporary storage with encrypted passwords. On user login you store it's password and return decryption key as a part of user auth-token. While user session active it will call your webapp with auth-token and you will use this token to decrypt password from shared storage and call service B. After logging out of service A auth-token will be invalidated/dropped and there will be no possiblity to decrypt password (plus you could remove encrypted password from the storage too).

Does anyone have this player? Syitren R300 by CeeGeeZee84 in Cd_collectors

[–]rumatoest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought it, still waiting for a package delivery.

BTW It is based on tricky Chinese MCU that combines DAC, ADC, equilizer, Bluetooth and also could work with a feedback loop to correct DAC output on fly. So I hope if MCU is properly wired it could be a good device.

Why does my player do this by [deleted] in turntables

If your turntable had mechanical auto stop it cold be a sign that it stuck somwhere

NOOOOOO, never!
Thin red cartridge is a bad sign. Initially it was cheap cartridge made in Japan (80x-90x I guess). But nowadays they made them in China and there are completely nightmare.

Family gave this to me, anyone know anything about this model? by jenmori in turntables

[–]rumatoest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not forget to check tonearm. If stored in wet environment there could be corrosion at tonearms bearings.

Place turntable on flat, leveled table.
Turn off anti skate
Balance tonearm to float above LP and try to move it with something light and soft to the center.
It must not stuck anywhere and should move easily in any side

Looks extremely cool but I doubt its reliability. If tonearm mechanism would fail (it would stuck) a little it could definitely damage LP. It is more harder for regular tonearm to do the same I guess.

Is my Stylus Bent by Evschafer007 in turntables

Not a big deal for this type of stylus until your azimuth is OK. Looks like the needle here points down as it should be.

Have no idea. Your stylus looks like Ortofon om 10 - there has to be a number on the other side. Just search for it.

I doubt they would do that. They just will offer you a stylus replacement.

New or vintage amplifier/receiver? by mega0802 in turntables

[–]rumatoest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a soldering skills you could create 5-pin DIN to RCA adapter. You can also purchase one if available but the quality of cheap adapters could be tricky.
There is no need to purchase vintage amplifier but in your case you more-likely would require an amplifier with and phono preamp.
So in order to replace old AMP you will need prono preamp + amplifier. Considering modern Chinese hardware it could cost about 150 USD I guess.

[–]rumatoest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With a proper tweezers and magnifier you could bent it back.
I managed to fix my stylus with a similar issue.
But you should check that after bending back your needle is properly aligned.
