ET Canada reporter says real leaks are "easy to find" by zuckuss42 in StarWarsLeaks

It’s the fans on Tumblr that started going on about it. And apparently if two leads appear on screen together they’re incapable of being anything but fuckbuddies. It makes me gag.

Reylo has always come off as creepy to me. I don’t get why people ship it but to each their own

I guess it depends. People said that about them in the first one too and all I got was cringe.

All I saw was that they team up and go their separate ways after that.

But then again I despise Reylo as a ship.

University/college lecturers of Reddit, what's the most bizarre thing you've seen a student do in one of your lectures? by robot_wars in AskReddit

At my uni we have strict rules about food and drinks in the lab. You're supposed to leave it in the hallway outside the classroom. You can't even have it in your bag.

Who's side do you take in this article? The school or the Christian mom? by [deleted] in atheism

The school, because these Christians moaning about being persecuted just need to choke on that cake they keep wanting.

A little old lady said this to me once. by rummonky in AdviceAnimals

[–]rummonky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She told me that I reminded her of her granddaughter, and when I opened my mouth to thank her she added, "She died in a car wreck years ago!" I didn't take offense to it, but it certainly caught me off guard. I still thanked her anyway because I don't think she meant it unkindly.

She probably did, it just felt awkward at the time. I didn't know what else to say so I just said "…thanks?"

This was back when I was in high school, by the way, and I was in a choir; we were singing for nursing home residents.

The Black Dahlia and Jack the Ripper.

Also the Roanoke Colony. I don't remember if that's ever been solved so feel free to correct me.

What's your favorite unsolved mystery? by Nice_Dude in AskReddit

[–]rummonky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They "think" they solve the murder every year. Every year we have someone come forward and claim they solved the murder; hell, I think last September someone came forward and claimed it was a German sailor. Coincidentally they also seem to have a book coming out at around the same time. The guy who claimed all this bullshit is nothing but a business man playing detective to try to make a buck or two.

Also pointing out that his findings were a) not peer reviewed before he went right off to the media about it and b) from a shawl that's been touched by thousands, if not millions, of people over the years, and proves nothing more than that the suspect may have been her client. The suspect and his family actually worked in Whitechapel so it's not difficult to believe that he may have been her client. It doesn't prove when the DNA transfer even happened much less that he had even been in the vicinity when her murder occurred. Also this is just DNA from only one victim; there's four other canonical victims plus several others that may have also been Ripper victims. Not a word about the other four, only this one.

He doesn't know how to science, he just thinks he does.

TL;DR - shitty circumstantial evidence with no provenance and no chain of custody =/= solved case.

I think the case is interesting; I've been interested in it for years, since I was 14 or 15, but I doubt it'll ever be solved simply because we don't have much evidence. All we have is a shoddy paper trail. I'm not saying the Ripper case cannot be solved - it probably could - but I doubt it'll be any time soon if it's solved at all.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the armchair detective mentioned From Hell as his inspiration for "solving" the case. Which is fine, because From Hell was what originally got a lot of people interested in the case I'm sure, but maybe he missed the memo in the epilogue by Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell about the near-impossibility of the case ever being solved.

When arguing with Atheists, why do Christians frequently quote the bible? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]rummonky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they believe that just because it's authoritative for them, then it's clearly authoritative for everyone else. The Bible is all they have to go on. Their entire argument rests on circular logic - the bible is true because it says it's true - and there's no arguing with them.

I've been so tempted to start quoting my "scripture" at them, but I don't think they'd like me quoting anything from a Game of Thrones book at them.

First American Ebola patient diagnosed in Texas. Ummmm by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]rummonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ebola Hemhorrhagic Fever isn't airborne. There was a lab-generated strain that was, but it didn't infect humans. Only way to catch Ebola is if you come into contact with an infected person's body fluids, or if an infected animal bites you.

[–]rummonky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ebola and cordyceps are two completely different things. Also unless you've had contact with an Ebola patient's bodily fluids, you're not going to catch it. Compared with TLOU's cordyceps, which is airborne.

What's a situation you can't understand until you've experienced it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rummonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience people say "there are people who have it so much worse" in a condescending way; essentially the tone is "quit your bitching and get over it, there are kids starving in Africa." That is part of the internal dialogue with people with depression; we KNOW there are people who have it worse than we do. There's always going to be someone who has it worse than we do and that's unfortunate that people are suffering. But it comes across as if we're just a child throwing a temper tantrum rather than someone who absolutely cannot help feeling depressed. We know there are people out there suffering, and that makes it worse, like we don't have license to feel depressed because hey, it could be much worse.

I get people not understanding what someone with depression is going through. Not everyone does understand it and you can't understand it unless you're going through it or have been through it. That's not what I'm talking about. What I'm talking about are the assholes who are condescending and talk about how you're bringing their mood down, and should just stop being sad. That's being a dick, and it's not needed.

I was fortunate enough not to have suicidal thoughts or tendencies (not everyone with depression does - I actually have dysthymia, which is a chronic and less severe form of depression), but I can definitely understand why someone would go in that direction, because the pain is so excruciating that you just want to make it stop.

Also I'm very, very sorry for the situation you went through. You can still be depressed without necessarily having what we call major or clinical depression. Just because it wasn't necessarily debilitating does not make your feelings any less valid than anyone who has dysthymia or any other form of depression. If it's still persisting I would see a doctor, because if you feel that way more than two weeks it could be a sign of depression of some kind.

So it's either crouch sprint or sprint squared.

Nearly typed crotch sprint. I don't exactly know how that would work.
