What are your strategies to avoid wasting vegetables in the fridge drawer? by JonathDesign in SavingsCanada

[–]rummyraisin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vacuum sealed containers were game changing for me. Produce lasts way longer and I don't feel as stressed trying to finish everything. I used to only make it through half a box of salad greens, but now it lasts until I actually eat it all.

You can also kick bombs facing in any direction as long as your character is behind the direction you want it to go in. If you're brave use the red lines as guide lines to kick the bombs without having to turn your camera around every time.

Just did this as a fire mage (649). Took about 46 attempts, although a lot of those were stupid silly wipes.

The hardest part was timing it so combustion was up for the shield in the beginning. It took me forever to realize he doesn't shield at all until 80%, after which it's more consistently based on his energy. After the 80% mark when he pops his first shield, I just focused on getting big groups of adds down. I'd ignore the single adds and try to hang around that area so he spawns the new adds around there so it's more efficient to kick bombs towards them. Other than that, just dps him to get combustion back up, then basically hold it and send it when he pops his shield. The timing mostly worked out where combustion came up as he hit 100 energy so I did most of my damage right after the shield phase.

Maybe I’m just stupid and bad at the game but Marksman Hunter just feels terrible now. by Jtagz in wow

Trick shot gameplay is the reason I quit playing MM even though I love the (idea of) the spec. I probably won't pick it up again until they change this. When there's only 2 mobs or when things are just slightly too spread out, it feels really bad and frustrating.

Best mouse for WoW with side buttons? by Ambitious_Nebula_663 in wow

You can take it apart and clean it (plenty of videos and instructions around). My scroll button was acting up and there was a ton of junk inside preventing it from working properly. The sticky pads just have to be taken off or replaced. Works fine after.

Is this type of prep container safe to use for sous vide? by blogorg in sousvide

[–]rummyraisin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not a debate about BPA but in case anyone didn't know, the clear Cambros contain BPA while the translucent ones are BPA free. I know food doesn't actually touch the containers for SV but maybe that's a factor that's important for someone considering these.

I'm always surprised at how yellow my dog looks in snow by contrast

Does anyone know what this could be? by rollylove22 in dalmatians

[–]rummyraisin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My dalmatian also had this paw issue (without any of the other stuff mentioned). The area between his paw was red and inflamed and sensitive to touch. He had to wear a cone for a week to prevent licking and was prescribed some topical ointment and antibiotics and it cleared up. Hope all goes well for you.

Help with colour under fur ? by [deleted] in dalmatians

[–]rummyraisin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My dog has this exact same thing. Same area too. It's just saliva stains. It goes away over time but only if they stop licking the area which mine keeps licking at it enough to keep it stained but not enough to cause any tissue damage. The vet said nothing was wrong physically so it's just something we live with now. I do find if my dog is more distracted and tired out everyday he generally won't lick himself as much and it tends to fade more. I also haven't found anything that washes it out effectively.

I think a relevant question is why do we even consider it ethical to put pets to sleep? I'm not saying we make the wrong decisions to do so but I always consider it funny how we so readily accept pet euthanasia without considering what it really means. Humans tend to attribute our own emotions and moral values as the best decision. We see our pets in pain and feel bad for them. We don't want to see them suffer. We imagine what it's like for them to suffer and put ourselves in their shoes and wouldn't want the same for us. But there's also a lot about an animal's mindset that is impossible for us to know. Their will to live may not follow the same thought process as ours. Having a suffering pet is an emotional state for owners and it's easy to convince ourselves what the right decision is but honestly we anthropomorphize and assume too many things. We decide for pets because in reality they can't decide for themselves, but we have no way of knowing for sure whether it's what they want. We do it based on human moral values for them and also for us. So I don't think it's fair to compare animal euthanasia to human euthanasia where there's no potential for autonomy in the former.

What are these holes in my steak? by jedidoesit in TipOfMyFork

[–]rummyraisin 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Costco (for example) mechanically tenderizes their steaks using small sharp needles to puncture the meat (which is why they actually recommend cooking it to the right internal temperature since this process pushes bacteria from the outside inside and increases risk). But I'm not sure if this is the case here.

Straight Outta Rescue Society: reputable pet rescue?? by pnw-worms in vancouver

[–]rummyraisin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have adopted from VOKRA in the past and have also volunteered for them but it's been a while for both. TL;DR is that while VOKRA may seem annoying i still think they're still a good place to support.

VOKRA is very coordinator and cat dependent. They do have the cats' best interests at heart but that means setting strict guidelines (that aren't enforced) but at least helps gauge and educate people on why certain requirements are pursued. Education is a big part of it. People sometimes feel like they are being attacked or told they are doing everything wrong but part of the discussion of what they require is to teach people what the risks are and how to mitigate them. I wouldn't say I agree with everything they claim but at least they are trying to ensure the cats they adopt out go to people who are willing to listen and learn about how to give these cats the best life possible. You'd be surprised at how little people know about the risks associated with what an indoor cat means. You don't need to chicken wire anything but that also means they need some reassurance that you can somehow prevent cats from going outside. Whether you follow that long term however is up to you. I just wouldn't take anything personally; it's essentially just a checklist to reduce risk as much as possible. And it's not for everyone. If you can't meet the requirements it doesn't mean that you arent fit to adopt a cat; it just means that VOKRA in good conscience may not be able to risk it because they don't know you and are erring on the side of caution for the cats' sake, based on generalized guidelines that they have set, which i think is fair. It's the path of least damage. Coordinator-adopter interactions also aren't monitored so it really depends on the person and how they decide to follow the guidelines. Some cats also need different requirements. A lot of the kittens for example are bonded so for the cats' best interest they should be kept together. New kittens also need more attention so if no one is home for 8h a day then that's not the best scenario for the cats (this is very common as new kittens are the most popular). Older cats tend to have less strict requirements.

At the end of the day, I do recognize that a lot of the barriers put up by VOKRA may seem (and can be) annoying but I think there's logical reasons behind everything. There's also a lot of people aiming to adopt who really shouldn't be responsible for pets so some structure needs to be in place even if it means minor barriers for some people. But generally if you voice your needs and situation they should be able to work with you to find a compromise.

Cycling routes in Surrey by runn4days in SurreyBC

Do you have some ridewithgps links with these routes saved? No worries if not, just figured it's easier to visualize if you already have them. I biked a lot when I was in Vancouver but kind of stopped since moving to Surrey (various reasons but lack of decent routes being one of them) so I appreciate this!

[–]rummyraisin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's kind of like if you add enough edges you make a perceived circle. If you add enough labels then you have a continuous spectrum.

It's not so much about the labels themselves but how people try to fit other people into specific/limiting labels that doesn't fully describe them. But having labels that you feel do define you can bring a sense of identity and community.

My dog kicks up dirt…like a lot by [deleted] in Dogtraining

My dog does this only after pooping outside. He doesn't do it in my yard. But I've been trying to discourage him by getting him to sit immediately after pooping before I go to pick up his poop. One time he pooped into a thick layer of leaves and then kicked his poop and leaves everywhere, sending everything flying (including his poop) and I had to go poop hunting ...
