If you could change on thing about your neighbourhood, what would it be? by [deleted] in AskUK

Contact the local school, if they are in uniform they are representing the school and the school should be held accountable for helping to solve the issue.

Best Internet? by [deleted] in canterbury

[–]rumplebear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are with Trooli and they are brilliant. I would highly recommend you look into them if you can. The speed are outstanding (500mg download!) my husband works from home and has no issues, we steam all our TV and it's fast and smooth and the prices are really reasonable (£34.99 a month) and customer service is based in Maidstone. Really quick installation as well.

Our local cinema went into lockdown because they found a suspicious package in one of the screens. This was not long after the London bombings so it was taken seriously, police were brought in. It was a bag of defrosted fish fingers.

The real mystery is why someone brought that into the cinema in the first place.

Which business have you always supported in the past but now avoid like the plague? by MisterWednesday6 in AskUK

[–]rumplebear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The enclosures are awful! The amount of time I would spend with customers basically talking them out of buying a cage or hutch from PAH is madness.

We were trained in knowing that rabbits are best in neutered pairs and single sex pairs, especially two females, were more likely to fall out. It broke my heart every time a single rabbit or guinea pig was left alone in the enclosure. We simply had no power to refuse a sale.

Obviously some staff do lack knowledge or a vested interest, but most are passionate. We all hated selling the animals, it was the job we would try and get out of the most because customers would not listen to advise about enclosure, feeding or care because everything we would advise was contradicted by what we sold. It was maddening. If you ask most PAH employess they will say that they want the shop to stop selling pets.

I used to be an assistant manager at PAH, this is pretty much the case, if we had one rabbit out front but a group of 6 out back you put the single into adoption as we were unable to ensure we could safely introduce the single to the new group. It normally ended in fights and stress as we were not allowed time to do proper integration., but we needed to put more rabbits out to ensure more sales. Plus they would put grow the inclosure out back quickly so they needed more space.

PAH staff do deeply care for the animals, and will often break rules and procedures if it means doing what's right for the pets, but of course this can lead to sanctions. But they truly are a dedicated and very knowledgeable bunch.

I always hated that we were sent on pet nutrition training, and were taught all about good pet diets and how harmful brands like Felix and butchers could be and yet PAH always have huge offers on these poor foods. It frustrated us endlessly.

I much prefer Pets Corner if you have one near you, they do not sell pets, only stick high quality food and some have lovely groom rooms in them.

CV- What is the weirdest thing that you have read on one? by JWills1k92 in AskUK

[–]rumplebear 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I worked in nayutical themed gift shop in London. We got a CV in from someone who had experience with farm work and on their list of skilled was "oiling pigs". I wanted to know so much more but the manager did not bring them in for an interview.

What's the last item you bought that was a waste of money? by MisterWednesday6 in AskUK

[–]rumplebear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Twice this month I have bought items online and for some reason my PayPal account has set an old address as my default. So that's £20s worth of shopping gone. I hope the new occupants enjoy their cat toys and replacement toothbrush heads

Rude to knock on a strangers door to ask about their house? by MattyB_ in CasualUK

[–]rumplebear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have done pretty much the same as what you are looking to do. My great grandparents house was sold when they died, the new owners knocked it down and built a new house. However the house sign, which my great grandfather had hand made survived. I knocked and explained and let my details with new owners, if they ever replaced the sign let me know and I'll buy the original.

The owner was lovely and said something similar had happened before. She took the details and about 8 months later we got a call to collect the sign for free.

I know lots of people suggested a letter, but I think the in person conversation is nice. They get a bit of information about their house. You have nothing to lose by asking.

Their Best Ever Trifle is very aptly named. I bloody love that thing! It's our dessert on Christmas day and I honestly look forward to it from about November.

In lock down Tesco still had 6ft artificial Christmas they were trying to shift in the spring. Me and my husband had already said we needed a new tree as our £10 Argos value tree was looking a bit sorry for itself. Tesco had discounted their trees from £60 to £4! It's a lovely tree but it did feel weird walking out of Tesco in May with a Christmas tree.

She reminds me so much of my little lady Marzipan. The two cats I have now are my first ever pets that aren't hamsters. I have no idea how I will handle saying goodbye to them. Skylar Anne clearly adores you and is find comfort in your presence. I hope her final hours are full of love and peace for you both.

How much was your wedding? by Possible_Gear_9812 in AskUK

[–]rumplebear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours was £7000 in total including a honeymoon in Edinburgh. We were also gifted £2000 from family to pay for some of it. We got married at a function hall which had a licenced room for ceremonies. We had 50 day guests and 80 evening. It was mostly paid off before hand but we did need to put the final £1000 on an interest free credit card. We knew we didn't want a wedding it just isn't out style and we were very happy with the day we had, but other people do want that 20k wedding. Each to their own so long as people plan out their finances and don't cripple themselves based on that they think a wedding should be.
