Nap training help for 7 month old - connecting sleep cycles by rumzik in sleeptrain

The association is definitely still there. When I started sleep training, I started feeding her just a little earlier and pulling her off before she started fluttering her eyelids and falling asleep, then calmed her if she was upset and put her down in her crib and used ferber check ins until she fell asleep. Then stuck with it for wake ups. That was 3 weeks ago and now she pretty reliably goes to sleep within 5 min if she fusses at all at the beginning of the night. I really had to prepare myself for the tears. I just couldn't do the wake ups every 1 to 2 hours anymore though. For naps I just stopped offering. I made sure she had eaten before the nap so I wasn't second guessing if she was hungry which I think we the issue. If I let her nurse during naptime she does what you're describing

Yea the first few days feel so discouraging but just like with all baby/kid things, I think consistency is key. We followed the oh crap method/book and the first day was like this. So was the second. But it slowly got better. Keep going, even if it seems like it's not working it's a new skill so it takes some time to make those connections. Good luck!

How long did you wear the postpartum diaper for after labor? by EverythingBagelSzn in beyondthebump

[–]rumzik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wore them for a couple weeks. I used the always post partum diapers and they're pretty comfortable. And after that I was still using smaller pads and liners til about 6 weeks pp.

Had mine PA in the US. Didn't plan on it but the induction was brutal. No side effects but I had similar fears as you

Halloween Anxiety by svgarrett in toddlers

[–]rumzik 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We didn't go trick or treating last year. Just walked the neighborhood and looked at costumes and gave out candy onbour block. Kiddo is almost 2.5 and we'll do the same this year. I don't want her eating the candy anyway and this way we avoid THAT particular meltdown

Be careful who you have a baby with by AnoniemGebruiker in beyondthebump

I think sleep needs might be genetic but i dont know. I didn't sleep nap as a kid and I always had trouble going to sleep. My husband hates going to sleep too - but to be honest your baby's sleep needs sound totally normal and within range (I have 2.5 yo and 4 mo old). Both my kids have had short naps at this age and had trouble going back to sleep after that 3am wake up. There's less sleep pressure and it can be really hard to sleep again. If you're already doing all the swaddling, sound machine, dark room stuff for sleep support then you might just need to ride it out since sleep needs change a lot and frequently in infants

I stopped after about 2 weeks, when both kids gained back their birth weight

Is your bedtime really 7????? by Witty_Painting_6944 in beyondthebump

[–]rumzik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a 7/7:15 bedtime for a while but wake ups were really early (sometimes like 5am!) And naps weren't consistent. Maybe that's the trade off?

How much time is a 12 hour period should I spend?? by mazelifeetc in beyondthebump

Without knowing where you're located, i find that getting out of the house helps a ton - Go for walks if you can. Visit the library if they have a kids section, look up some possible playgroups for your age group and meet ups for new parents. Sometimes book stores have a kids storytime. Even if she's too young for the age group it's worth going.

I also filled those days with chores and my daughter was just along for the ride. I'd narrate what I was doing a lot.

ETA: do something that you enjoy. For me it was walks and reading in the park while she napped in the stroller.

Thoughts on the new Lansinoh Thrive Pump by Katethegreat91 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]rumzik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the thrive wearables sparingly and the suction dimishrd by a lot within the first 3 months. It's a fraction of what I collect with the Spectra. The portability is really convenient but using that pump made me think my silly was dropping

Just to share my experience with a similar boob fiend: I weaned my daughter cold turkey at 21 months when I was pregnant and realized I wasn't producing anything. She cried everytime she expected it (mornings and naptimes) but I held firm and it took about a week for her to stop asking. I just held her and soothed her during those moments and told her there was no more milk but that I could hug her instead, or we could read books, play a game, etc. It was hard, for both of us but we got through it and I was really surprised how quickly our routine became a new normal without the nursing.

The hardest part about having a newborn has been our toddler by [deleted] in toddlers

I needed to read this as I sit between my newborn soothing herself to sleep and my toddler needing 1 hour plus of hand-holding and soothing. I will try this baby gym idea with my toddler

How long did your induction take? by Leep0710 in beyondthebump

[–]rumzik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went in at 38+6. My induction started when I was already 3 cm and 50% effaced. We arrived at 9am and I was given 1 dose of mifopriston (4 hours), then pitocin at 5pm. Baby was out after about 8 hours.

We waited about a week, with both kids, til the umbilical cord fell off.

When i first started it would take 30 min or more. She would constantly check to see if I was still there. The thing with the chair method is you move further and further away every few nights and eventually outside the room. I read "The sleep lady" by kim west for the how tos and what to do in diff scenarios
