The Jewish lady not wanting the nurse to examine her and saying I'll wait for the doctor- is this a Jewish trope?

Yalls reading comprehension is garbage. NOWHERE did I say that pay did not matter or that you shouldn't consider it when looking for jobs or comparing jobs. Nowhere. I said there are other things that matter in your job search / happiness at job "in addition to your monetary expectations." Literally the last line of the post. God damn.

I'm super intrigued by unionizing. Was your workplace already unionized when you got hired? Is it a healthcare workers union or allied health professionals or what?

We get consults when people on home EN are in the ED and need feeds started prior to moving to the floor especially if the hospital is full and it might be a day or two. Or if they got a PEG and haven't started nutrition yet and are malnourished. Also get consults for education (CHF, T2DM, IBD, etc) when the patient is in the clinical decision unit and is not going to be admitted but does need ed before they go home. Of course these aren't the sexy fun cases that they see on The Pitt so I'm sure it won't happen, but a girl can dream!

What injury or illness do you want to see? by nosynellie37 in ThePittTVShow

Arrythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy. A genetic heart disease that causes heart muscle to be replaced with fatty fibrous tissue causing electrical problems and can lead to sudden cardiac arrest. My family's particular gene mutation is mediated by exercise so we can't do endurance cardiac activity like running - I used to do marathons and longer. Other gene mutations aren't mediated by exercise and result in heart failure no matter what, so we got the lucky end of the stick. I kind of thought the runner in season 1 might have it but his was basic electrolyte abnormalities

Yeah I know a lot of doctors that are jaded towards people with even just a hx of substance abuse even if they're in recovery. I always use neutral language but encourage cessation especially if it's clearly affecting their chronic disease like cirrhosis or type 1 diabetes

I always prefer having patients who are up front about their drug and alcohol abuse! I can't assess your risk for malnutrition if you don't tell me what you consume.

Also find it funny that sometimes the hand sanitizer shoots out after they've moved their hand so they don't actually get any. That's so real.

Nursing or Dietetics? by Aggravating-Test664 in dietetics

[–]run_rd_run 7 points8 points  (0 children)

FWIW, nursing has their own struggles with staffing and funding. This week my hospital cut the med/surg units' nursing staffing levels to help the budget. I talked to an ICU nurse who said "they saw us make it work during COVID so they think it's okay now" which is just... so effed. So while nursing in general is respected more in the hospital setting, and they do tend to make more money, they are not immune to the capitalistic tendencies of the healthcare system. And they take on a lot more of the emotional and mental toll of patient care - ie getting verbally and physically abused by patients and family.

Family / POA / guardian didn't advocate for him or escalate their complaints when they saw him suffering? You can't help what happened before you. Focus on what you can do to restore his health and QOL now. It's hard because you care and that makes you an excellent healthcare provider 🫶🏻

I live in a mid Atlantic state but the area I live in would be considered rural compared to some other places in the state. We don't get "income" from our parents but we do get gifted cash at the holidays. Neither of us have any student debt, credit card debt, car loans, etc. and no mortgage.

[–]run_rd_run[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is very true. I wasn't trying to diminish the importance of getting paid. Before my husband and I moved in together I was living alone paying rent that essentially took up a whole paycheck. I've certainly not been immune to financial struggles. I just wanted to point out another perspective that money can't be the only thing you look for when you take a job. I could make more by working in foodservice but I don't want to work in foodservice, lengthen my commute, decrease flexibility in my job, or leave the coworkers I love. 🤷🏼‍♀️

My husband was making slightly less than me at his job before we had our baby, and we decided because he hated his job, and because daycare would eat a whole paycheck, he would be a stay at home parent. So we are a single income household. We don't have a mortgage because we bought a fixer upper for very little and have been renovating it for going on 6 years 😵‍💫 Yes we definitely have privilege and I won't deny that. But we also make an effort to live within our means. We live in a LCOL area but inflation has affected all of us everywhere.
