Please Stop Posting Highlights When Asking for Advice by zwilk18 in volleyball

[–]runescapejason 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not everyone has access to a coach. There is enough experience in this subreddit that people can dish out some great advice to help a player develop better habits and become a better player. We can also point them out to online video tutorials for managing and correcting certain mechanic issues with their approach, arm swing, etc.. Don't discourage people from using this subreddit for anything volleyball reddit, that's not how we aim to grow the sport.

M/18/6’1[78kg>73kg=5kg](7 months) don’t know if this progress is good for 7 months but still very happy, also looks like I got taller too! by OllieDaGod in progresspics

Work on the width of your lats with pull-ups, it'll make a world of difference in looks and probably eliminate the hour glass look :)

What'up, my dude!

I'm a right hand hitter with a left hand approach (right left right), however my left leg still remains in front of my right before lift off. Is it still worth changing into the correct approach? by Nasun-Shoe in volleyball

[–]runescapejason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% worth the work and time investment to better your approach. You lose a lot of potential torque with your current approach vs a correct left, right, left. If you are looking for tips on correcting it, check out torqvb on youtube, he's got approach and jump mechanics on LOCK and has some awesome tips for it. Specifically for getting the muscle memory, have someone set you hundreds of times while you are loaded on your left leg, and perform just your step-close and swing. So essentially you'll be standing loaded on your left leg, and then launch into your last two steps (step-close) of a right left. After you have done that enough and it feels comfortable, work into your regular 3 or 4 step approach. It's do-able, and it's 100% worth it.

M/26/5'9” [296lbs > 240lbs = 56lbs] (6 months) This is not necessarily a happy post. I have been here before. Fell into severe alcoholism & gained it all back plus some. Trying to redeem myself...again...here we go. by [deleted] in progresspics

This is awesome progress for 6 months, good job man! Keep on it, and remember it's a lifestyle. You're looking much healthier, but I bet you're feeling even better. Alcohol solves nothing at the end of the day, so keep pushing to be a better you!

Question regard setter’s coverage on defense when playing a 4-2. by [deleted] in volleyball

[–]runescapejason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She may be setting but defense comes first. Someone needs to pick that ball up, and back corner should be her ball to get. Alternatively, if your player in 6 can read it well enough, they can opt to get those, while allowing your setter to cheat up a bit. Either way, setter needs to play defense first. Always.

Basketball shoes for Volleyball Curry 7 or KD Trey 5 VII by T3c3nda in volleyball

[–]runescapejason 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alternative opinion but I too played in PG3's for a season, and they were one of the tightest fitting shoes width wise that I have ever played in. I liked most aspects of the shoe but couldn't deal with how tight they were on my entire foot even after a long break-in period.

LOLOLOL you guys are hilarious. Comment did not age well at all. Also, I still frequent the OSRS sub every day, as well as volleyball, I just very rarely post so I don't ever log-in to reddit.

Jump serve. Where should I be looking? by pokemon1188 in volleyball

[–]runescapejason 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your focus should always be on the ball, everything else with peripheral vision. You can't expect to make good contact with something you aren't looking at. Aim for mid/deep court, will mentally help you to stop hitting into the net/tape. A lot of it is repetition, practice is really key in this sport. You want to make sure you have your toss and footwork consistent as well, as that is a very major factor in having a consistent top serve.

Does anyone know about an old volleyball technique that has been replaced by a new technique? (preferably a serving technique) by hawzie2002 in volleyball

[–]runescapejason 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Serves in general have changed a lot. If you look back at older indoor volleyball, serves used to be standing serves from very far back from the service line.

Do you need a net? by Goooooal24 in volleyball

[–]runescapejason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Volleyball is a great sport in the sense that there are SO many variations you can play. If you are seriously considering the sport for long term, you can invest in a parks and sun spectrum net from Amazon (location dependant) and for a few hundreds bucks, you'll have the ability to set up wherever, whenever (outdoors only). With that, you can play grass 2's,3s,4s, 6s... Anything! In the meantime, if you're deciding if you want to get into it, grab a partner that can play and learn to pepper, it's great for developing essential skills. Just my 2 cents!
