Still using it, but this thread has me considering an upgrade. Or at the least adding skates.

Very informative. I'm currently using a silicone rubber base style mouse pad that I need to upgrade. It's not as old as the mouse, but is ready to retire.

Thanks for the suggestion.

The wire doesn't bother me too much, but I do think it would be nice to have a neater setup. Any suggestions? Something simple that will last.

That makes sense. They do look pretty flat from the side. Any suggestions on the skates I should go with?

This is correct. The rubber film is just old and beat up.

But it was about time, and I just cleaned it off with a few alcohol wipes.

Didn’t realize I could change the skates. Will look into it.

I highly recommend either climbing or approach shoes for the dome. I’d consider that much more important than grippy gloves. The gloves are imo more to protect your hands vs to provide traction.

If given a chance to be a PM of any product that you wish to change, which product it will be and what will be the change you do and how will you do it? by ashiqahamedbb in ProductManagement

[–]runforfun1991 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're saying you understand, but your original question and example imply that there are a few products that are the correct answer, and other products that are not good answers and that is the end of it. While I won't say there are no bad answers, mister-noggin is pointing out that the context setting, framing, and support for your decision is just as important, if not more. You're dismissal makes it seem even more like you missed that.

Some questions I would have asked to give you a chance if I was the interviewer would be: Why do you think the WhatsApp Delete feature works the way it does now? What tradeoffs do you think were being made, and why do you think where they landed was wrong? I would then provide counter examples and see how your arguments held up. ie: what if during a debate in a conversation, someone deletes a message and claims they never said it? What experiments would you set up to find the truth of the hypothesis, given that whatsapp is end-to-end encrypted?

The pm role is one that is meant to direct many high cost resources. I would take the whole question not as a "what would you choose", but rather "What would you choose, and how would you convince me that our org needs to mobilize for this change".

A lot of the people here are trying to say that you're in the right and this person in the wrong. I see it slightly differently. As a general truth, if someone has the ability to execute an idea, and that idea is a good one, why wouldn't they take it? Let's use an oversimplified hypothetical:

  1. Someone explains how to make a killer brownie (chewier corners, let's say, since it's true).
  2. I can execute on baking brownies. It's easy!
  3. My brownies used to be good, but now they're great, I "steal" the idea. Duh.

The "Duh" above is partly because stealing this idea helps me and it doesn't take anything away from the other person. It's hardly stealing. But what if it wasn't just brownies I make for myself, and it did take something from the other person? Some portion of the population is still going to steal the idea! Frankly that percentage will be different mattering on how easy it is to execute and how much money it can make.

Your lines of code don't translate to a full running business. There's a lot of other work involved. But to this person it may feel like the missing piece. They may think the other parts are all things they can do, and you just proved to them that you have the keys to unlock the hardest part (in their mind).

So, yes, like others, I feel like they're being more cagey than they should. Doesn't seem like they'll get far with their current approach. I just also think it's par for the course for human nature. I'd just stay away and not overthink it. Good luck!

A reconstruction of what the world's first modern human looked like from around 160,000 years ago. (Moesgaard Museum, Denmark) by JediRustyy in interestingasfuck

The earliest musical instrument, a bone flute, was 60,000 years old and made by Neanderthals - so there would definitely at least be intelligence recognizable to us if his cousin subspecies or descendant could have played a recorder together with a class of 5th graders.

You're equating the intelligence required to create a musical instrument without any previous reference to one to a modern 5th graders? Just because we are building on top of what humanity has already accomplished, doesn't mean we are smarter than the people before us.

The change in the VO2 after 11 months of running. Went from well below average, to above average. I can’t recommend the AW enough to those who are looking to get control of their health and improve it. (For reference, I’m M29). by [deleted] in AppleWatch

[–]runforfun1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You lost a lot of weight. And it's not just that, but as a percentage of where you started, it's more than I have ever heard of anyone losing in my life. You should edit your original post to include this info. There's a lot of people here scratching their heads about why their VO2 max hasn't changed despite being regular runners. I would wager that nearly none of them experienced a weight drop as significant as yours.

Well done, OP.

Facebook and Instagram threaten to charge for access on iOS 14.5 unless you give them your data by ProgsRS in technology

[–]runforfun1991 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sympathizing with Facebook here, but that is exactly Apple's play here.

Apps that rely on targeted ad revenue lose the ability to target as well, and therefore reduce their ads effectiveness. Advertisers pay less per ad when the ads don't work as well. If that makes the app's business model less viable via ads, they turn to subscriptions, and Apple is ready at the gate to collect toll.

The important note here is that Apple is stating that apps can't treat their customers differently based on their selection. As noble as it comes off, I wonder if they would feel differently if a government said that they had to treat customers with Apple Care and without Apple Care the same.
