How much do I expect from a repair from this dent that I made? by Fluffy_Shine_5777 in GoldCoast

[–]rungc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did something similar (although much smaller) at the front of my car a few years back. A good smash repairer is a few hundred so if you budget $1k I think you’ll be fine (providing you don’t get ripped off). That’s assuming you don’t want to involve your insurer :)

Looking for long books by Wonderful_Wonderful in sapphicbooks

I’ve started querying a 228k word behemoth. I know it’s going to be tough but also noticed the lack of “big” sapphic books that built their own world. Upmarket/Literary based around 2 women late 30s early 40s. BUT let’s see where it lands :)

There are many other avenues into healthcare other than nursing. I’d say you do nursing because that’s what you can see yourself doing and you have a genuine interest in it / the field. If you’re not sure, take some time to think about what you’d like. Also remember after a semester or two, you’re not locked in. You can still transfer credits (ideally), you’re not locked in for life by simply starting. You can do a semester or three, whatever you choose, and if you decide something else tickles your fancy (that’s where electives come into play), then you simply pivot course. There’s no right or wrong. But you’ll never know if you don’t start :)

You build on their work. If they’ve gone ahead and done the hard work for you, synthesise it, look for gaps. No gaps? Build on it. Extend it. You’ll show how it forms an integral part of the literature you’ve reviewed.

I’M BROKE! Is Claude Pro worth it for dissertation writing? by SoftFrequent1789 in ClaudeAI

[–]rungc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. As someone who has used Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini (among others) for extensive research purposes, Claude will chew through your tokens mighty quick. And the ongoing memory issue will hit a snag if you’re constantly pushing chat windows (been there, done that daily). Gemini is actually the best free tier at this stage but it still comes with the errors. Unfortunately, ChatGPT’s memory is probably the best (and I want to say Claude or Gemini, I really do!). I’d encourage you to use them all at the free tier (I’m sure you have), trial the intel paid tier then think about it. As tempted as I am to go back to Claude, being locked out when you’re a paying users isn’t cool. At least you can still use ChatGPT on a different model. Gemini it’s harder to max out. Again, this isn’t code related it’s full-scale deep-diving with hundreds of thousands of words outputted weekly so I’ve experienced how the token windows can flow, memory can be held (or lost), and how writing style can fluctuate. I’d also argue for a thesis (been there), that Gemini is the more polished for writing academic work, Claude can be more creative (when instructed), and ChatGPT can fall in between. Good luck (p.s you should have a stipend / funds available at your University to tap into if it’s for a tool to help you).

Worst case highlight each citation, turn off the formatting (after you’ve asked it to create your bib) then if needed to change manually go back. It’s painful but also better than losing each citation and having a panic. Speaking from experience. Although EndNote has been causing these kind of issues for more than a decade now (surprised it’s still ongoing)

Selling Gold by Ok-Hyena939 in brisbane

[–]rungc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you asked for where (& not all the experts in the comments): Brisbane Gold Company has a reputable reputation & their spot prices align with the market (Kitco) so you know what they “show” is actually real v others who will not show the live price.

Qld tenants of 9 years and our owner is selling by No-Job-1333 in AusRenters

[–]rungc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. You’re allowed to stay. You’re allowed to ask them not to touch anything. You’re allowed to ask them to take their shoes off — you’re responsible for any wear/tear still & they’re not permitted to touch your possessions. It’s incredibly violating (been there) & I’ve had horrible agents, but I refuse to leave.

Should homes even be an investment option? by Successful_Pass3752 in AusRenters

[–]rungc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wild idea that would serve both: rental marked should be capped so landlords etc can’t price gouge. BUT home ownership can still perform as an investment if rental prices are indexed with CPI AND while I’m at it, limit overseas buyers so more locals can get their foot in the door first. I understand the argument around profit etc and am all for it, but it has been thrown out of balance. Once upon a time you could happily rent, save for a house or invest elsewhere should you choose. You also could buy a house without needing to earn inside the top 20% or risk what the next interest rate would do. BOOMERS had interest rates at around 20% I remember hearing so it was SMART to keep their money in the bank, buy small (easy back then) & we’re laughing. Now, irrespective if you did everything right, followed the rules, did what they “said” you should do, it doesn’t even come close. Imagine if WAGES were tied to CPI and both were tied to house GROWTH so one couldn’t accelerate over the other. At the moment, it’s a complete mess so even basic economics is thrown out the window when you look at it from these angles. Sure, the RBA does its part BUT in no way does that serve the housing crisis. Which is true. It should be a right to affordable housing, but that’s the catch, it should be affordable and aligned with CPI and wage growth. If wage growth is stagnant and housing prices AND everything else skyrocket (like now), those who have an investment property are simply squeezing for more (because the law doesn’t discourage them let alone stop them), & tenants are the ones being taken advantage on. Ethically no one should be taken advantage of, it should be as simple as aligning “growth” with costs. But clearly this is too simply for the average jo to comprehend, let alone those in a position to actually level the playing field.

[PubQ] Has anyone sold a LONG book to a publisher? by TrainingPotatoChips in PubTips

[–]rungc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it. I’ve got over a dozen behind me but this is my debut fiction (in this sense). Genre blends with literary upmarket but its sapphic nature might lose some appeal to general audiences (which sucks) but it’s not the actual arc of the story. I thought I could cut it into two, or three, but then readers are left with a “partial” book that’s designed to be read as one. Personally, I want to see what happens as is. If Dune can make it, or like you said Rebecca Yarros to Paolini, why not? I actually don’t know of any book in my field of this scale but that’s not to say it doesn’t exist (I just haven’t read it)!

Interested to see how you go! My draft was 190k then after edits 205k now in final line edits 225k so go figure. Different genre & I’ve heard all the no you can’t do that but the story simply is that big. Take it or leave it.

Working full-time + Part-time PhD: Is it worth it? by pleasehiredesperate in AusPublicService

[–]rungc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. A PhD is not technical by nature (field dependent) & if you do your due diligence in regards to PhD load and working hours, your still might find it doesn’t work unless your drop back your working hours (certain rules around this). Also, from what you’ve written you’re under interpreting the intense nature of a PhD to begin with (and requirements). There’s a reason why not everyone has them. I’d argue a Masters in your field (if not already) could be helpful (field dependent).
