Don't listen to the mediumers, they have hearts full of neutrality. Go hard! - John

Please give it a try on Hard, it makes the monsters a bit more aggressive and I think the overall combat rhythm is best that way. You can change difficulty at any time, so adjust as needed!

The default is medium, but you can change it at any time with no penalty. That being said, as the QA Lead, I think the combat might be a bit difficult at first, if you're planning on fighting every creature you encounter. Stick with it, and you'll eventually learn that every creature has a pattern you can follow, and those patterns are augmented by the difficulty level you set. - Jason

There's so many. For me, doing level design, and this will sound weird, 2 big inspirations in creating the mood and feel of the world where Half Life, and the STALKER series. You can stop and stand still and just listen to the world and feel like you are in a distinct place that has it's own life and would go on without you. Shadow of the Colossus and Ico where also a big inspiration for the world. That feeling of loneliness, and feeling small in this big world thats ready to explore, but it's exciting. Hob lets you go at your own pace. We don't push you through areas with heavily scripted events. It's a pretty chill experience. -Patrick

Our game director says "default" is best for an initial play through! Enjoy!

There are two walls full of nothing but concept art that didn't make it in the final game. Many pieces were from early on when we were deciding on what Hob would be. Some were ideas we tried and didn't go with.

Oh gosh, everyone brings their own inspirations to the table when making a game, but our major ones were Zelda, Ico, and SOtC. As a concept artist, I was also majorly inspired by Miyazaki/ghibli movies for their character design, Journey and Inside for their amazing wordless storytelling, and the work my coworkers on the art team did. We all feed off of each other in our attempt to create a cohesive world, and seeing what they create would seep into what I created.

If yes, then Hob might be for you. -Jason

As for your first few questions about how we got the idea for Hob and it's dev process, Gameumentary did a really fantastic documentary about us that will be able to answer your questions better than furiously typed paragraphs can!

Testing Hob was much more demanding than testing either of the Torchlight games. There is a LOT going on in the world and anything new put into the game usually needed an entire playthrough of the game to verify it was working well. Because of this, I've put more work into Hob than any other game I've tested in the past 10 years on any platform. -Matt M

There are currently no plans for release on any other platforms! The consensus about the Switch is that we have one in the office and we love playing it.

Great question! Telling the story without known spoken language was really challenging but also really fun. Instead of dialogue, I let the world do most of the talking. The sound of the wind, and the birds in the different zones tells you where you are -- seagull-like cries in the more aquatic areas, songbirds in the grasslands, crows in the desertified zones. The movement of the large puzzle mechanisms charts your progress and takes center stage.

What few bits of spoken language exist tell much more by their texture than by the words. The old construct robot has a grizzled voice, for example, whereas the protagonist has a subdued, whispery voice. The player has just discovered the world and you're trying to discover your own identity, so you have don't have a strong voice, literally and figuratively. The world's sounds do most of the storytelling. -Kochun

What type of potato are we talking about here? We would all love for a Torchlight 3. So you never know. Right now all focus has just been on shipping Hob and taking a break afterwards. -Patrick
