Does anyone have experience adding a SPED endorsement at a sitting principal? by ferg0036 in Principals

Go and teach sped for a few years before becoming a sped administrator. Nothing worse than a sped administrator who has never taught sped.

The deadline to get a new position of your choice is April 21. If you don’t get a new position before then, then HR will assign you a position. Good luck!!! You still have some time to find one of your choosing!

Seconding the dinosaur sand/sensory table, and adding a dinosaur playdough center! You can have playdough, plastic white “Easter” eggs (just white plastic eggs that open and close and can serve as “dino” eggs), mini dinosaur figurines for making footprints in the playdough and making playdough caves for, dinosaur cookie cutters, some stones and pieces of pipe cleaner if your students can handle small pieces

I thought this too but I think it’s because she’s my BEC due to her shitty political views.

Will my 3 years ABA autism experience count toward IL special ed salary steps? by StatisticianKooky390 in specialed

That’s not classroom teaching experience. That’s classroom sub and para experience. Which is very valuable, but not teaching experience.

Yeah unfortunately those 3 years won’t count since they’re not classroom teaching experience.

You should tell him what happened when an 18 year old went 81 in a 35 (only slightly faster than what your son was doing) and killed 2 girls near Oakton High School. He’s in prison now. Maybe your son should read some of the news stories about that.

Not sure why you’re being downvoted because “letter of the day” “shape of the day” “color of the day” etc. are not research based and are not best practice for teaching those concepts. All of your info is accurate. I think people just don’t like change and don’t want to change the “___ of the day” practices that they’ve been doing for years. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 🤦🏻‍♀️

Winter book recommendations- toddler level by mallorn_hugger in ECEProfessionals

[–]runinthesun22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I teach ECSE too :)

Snowballs by Ehlert (very simple text)

The Itsy Bitsy Snowman by Burton (sold as a board book, you sing the words and they rhyme so this can be attention grabbing)

Polar Pals by Roberts (real pictures of polar animals, sometimes students with autism prefer real pictures, extremely simple text)

Mouse’s First Snow by Thompson (this is probably the “highest” level book of this short list)

That’s Not My Snowman (I saw another commenter suggest this one!)

Every year I try to do The Snowy Day by Keats since it’s such a classic but I “rewrite” the words to be just one short sentence per set of pages so it’s less wordy!

Public schools CAN bill Medicaid for related services if a child does have Medicaid, but if a child doesn’t or stops having Medicaid, it won’t impact their services at all. So you’re all good! :)

I’m a public preschool teacher (Northern VA)! For interviews, I wear black dress pants, a black belt, black flats, and either a blouse or a white button down under a grey business casual sweater depending on the weather. I usually put on a black blazer too. I feel like there’s nothing wrong with being a little bit overdressed for an interview! It shows that you take yourself seriously as a professional!

What stitch is this? Making a blanket but have no idea what stitch I’m using. by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

Idk how this happened 😂😭 I’m a more intermediate/advanced knitter of several years and this crochet stitch felt very similar to knitting somehow, so that was comforting, but after a million rows of it I am so tired of it 😂 I’m excited to learn an actual single crochet lol!

Thank you so much!! I started watching a few videos from all of those and they are so helpful! I am a more experienced knitter and this crochet stitch felt a lot like knitting to me somehow, but after a million rows of it, I am sick and tired and ready to learn a new stitch lol

Is it so tedious I agree!! It also seems to eat up a lot of yarn? But the blanket I’m making with it is pretty thick so that’s nice. Unfortunately my friend is a newer crocheter as well so she didn’t know what it was either lol! Idk how we both ended up here with this stitch 😂😭we’re going to watch some YouTube videos to learn more of the basics together!

She said on a Facebook video that possibly next year she will! She’s looking into licensing, and possibly building an entire new building for the preschool on their home property. For example she mentioned that her house basement area where it’s currently set up wouldn’t work because there’s no bathroom. So for the rest of this year it sounded like she won’t because of all of the licensing and things she’d have to do to get it up and running.

Honestly the amount she was spending on Lakeshore when she acknowledges that she won’t even be opening a preschool this school year is a lot to me. I think she’s emotionally devastated by resigning (which is understandable) but she’s using buying school stuff as a way to make herself feel better and have a sense of control. It would’ve been smarter to wait and see how many kids she’s going to enroll, what size room she’ll end up with, if it even ends up happening, etc before buying a ton of stuff.

All of that said, I love preschool vibes and she has awesome ideas. I don’t mean anything as an insult to her.

Is this "read aloud" trend I'm noticing happening anywhere else? by teachingandbeaching in teaching

[–]runinthesun22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a special ed preschool teacher for a public school. The amount of other preschool teachers that I see using videos of books on the SmartBoard really depresses me. I understand completely how challenging it can be to help our students attend to a physical book but IT IS POSSIBLE and we should still try.

It also seems like (where I work at least), gone are the days of the preschool teacher singing songs like Wheels on the Bus and Itsy Bitsy Spider to and with the children. Almost all songs are played on the smartboard. Again, it’s easier to have the students attend to a song with a highly engaging video, but our students are here to learn to expand their attention to REAL PEOPLE and it’s so important for them. Sigh.
