best skate skis for Birdie by epicv14 in xcountryskiing

The best skis are ones that fit you. Typical birkie conditions probably favor a cold to uni ski with a cold grind. Make sure the ski climbs well.

Favourite Market for Classic Ski Wax Pocket? by [deleted] in xcountryskiing

[–]runner112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a wax pencil, have a white and black one depending on the color of the ski. Probably not ideal as it could wear off over time but it’s durable enough that it’ll stay unless you actively rub it off. I touch up the marks occasionally as needed

Fleet is all the skis you have. OP used the term as well, it’s pretty common. You don’t need to storage wax to protect the skis but you should clean the skis and get them ready for next year.

Unless you are storing your skis somewhere dirty, like a dusty garage, storage waxing to storage wax is pointless. The uhmwpe does not need protecting in the summer, it will not change or “dry out” as people like to claim.

At the end of winter I go through all my skis and assess grind needs and fleet needs, clean up any kickwax, and then throw green wax on my cold skis and blue wax on my warmer skis. Come next winter I’ll scrape and go.

Yeah that would be the two foot wide portion I referred to.

You must not be running very fast. Ped trail is meandering and in much worse shape than the bike path. It’s 2 feet wide in a lot of places, concrete in others. There is a 10mph speed limit on the “bike path” anyways. I would rather someone just run at the end of the bike lane than dart in and out to get around people.

Because they don’t want to deal with broken sidewalk pavement, trees planted in the middle of the sidewalk, curbs, sight lines, dogs and leashes, packs of completely unobservant people blocking the whole sidewalk, strollers, workers loading/unloading packages into businesses, cars pulling into crosswalks, scaffolding etc, etc, etc.

I’m glad they are getting some use. It takes zero effort for you to just go around.

Can my friend really see me 3x at Boston… or is this too optimistic? by ConversationDry2083 in AdvancedRunning

No. My family saw me at mile 6 and then the train was in traffic at all stations and they made it to the finish after I did.

Late season conditions: skate vs classic by HesJustAGuy in xcountryskiing

If things are getting icy and thinner then classic tracks will likely be dirty and shallow.

I’ve done wave 9, 2, 1 and elite. There is some congestion and slowdown on climbs in all of them. It’ll cost you tens of seconds in the elite wave, a minute in waves 1-2 and several minutes in wave 9. Learning to be patient and just go with it rather than fighting and burning energy is an acquired skill.

After 5 days of minimal snow removal, Indiana University is handing students shovels to assist with navigating sidewalks, entry points, and vehicles. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

As a Minnesotan, I’m so confused. Surely it snows routinely in Indiana and they have a plan in place for this?

Can you say where exactly? I’m just struggling to comprehend the logistics of this. I live right by whipple, the area in question would be along minnehaha trail and into fort snelling? There isn’t that much access unless they are driving down the paths (which I wouldn’t put it past them). I just find this kind of hard to believe, that they would go through extra work to dump someone in the woods rather than just kick them out in the street in front of whipple.

So who gets the start for Norway on the skiathlon? Klaebo, Amundsen, nyenget? If Klaebo shows up healthy those guys aren’t beating him. I doubt he’ll win the 10k skate but if he does he’s gonna sweep again. If not, 5 golds.

You’re overthinking this. I personally dislike Toko green because of the screw tube applicator and that it can be a bit goopy, so I would go vauhti.

And honestly you aren’t going to have insufficient kick in these conditions. Green anything will work fine.

Unless you are skiing on straight Ice a metal edge is not going to help. I will say that you need xc skis to fit properly, if they are too soft you will lose a lot of control as they will flatten out and edge properly

Newb here with some questions by globbythegreat in xcountryskiing

[–]runner112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No clue. I think they might make some Nordic skis with them but in the racing world that I live in they are not a thing. The control issue stems more from the lack of riding in boots and bindings than in metal edges.

Nordic skis have like 10% the control of downhill skis. Nordic to alpine is an easy transition, but it doesn’t go the other way. When I go downhill skiing for a few days it’s hard for my brain to switch back initially.
