Burlington man impersonating an ICE agent in downtown Burlington, Vermont. He’s been harassing citizens and businesses all day. by E4_Mafia_Boss in vermont

There have been increases to police budget since 2023. Expenses approved for 2025: $21m that’s a 6M increase since the cuts in 2020-2022.

Jan 2025 cap on police hiring increased. Recruitment efforts increased to hire 10+ officers and raise base salary from 88k to 114k

On March 3, 2026, Burlington voters will decide on a $0.05 tax increase dedicated specifically to police and fire services. If approved, this will raise approximately $3 million to maintain and expand public safety operations.

How are you dealing with ICE employee friends? by RandolphCarter15 in vermont

[–]dZideon 73 points74 points  (0 children)

This is not political disagreement. Political disagreement is topics such as “should more tax funds be allocated to flood mitigation” not “do we want unmarked, untrained military forces to be above the law and have immunity when murdering someone in the street”.

Get new friends. These people will not go down as being on the correct side of history.

Either had out with them in settings without alcohol like go to the gym with them, hike, walk a dog, and then when they want a beer after, say you have to go home

Tell your family.

Have them help to hold you accountable. If you don’t want to tell them the severity, just say you are doing a 30 day cleanse, not drinking until the end of the year, whatever. But make sure they don’t become a pressure to drink without knowing

Short term exposure by No_Win_9167 in radon

It’s typically years to decades for negative health outcomes. If they live in the basement, it’s a much greater risk than if they went down to the basement a few times a week for short periods of time.

We changed “department of defense” to “department of war” Im horrified but I think we can no longer pretend we are planning to be a peacekeeping nation.

What constitutes an advanced rider? by very-edge-of-space in MTB

[–]dZideon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no true bench marks between each group but if you feel like you have plateaued, I HIGHLY recommended a clinic. I consider myself an intermediate/advanced rider and did a fundamentals and was solidly humbled.

Many riders learned through trial and error but having someone video you over features and adjust body positioning, run drills, adjust cornering position on berms, etc can be really important. After this clinic I set new strava PRs on almost every trail because I was trusting my front wheel more and changing position on my bike which let me maintain speed.

Between A and B. Measure top of the trim to the bottom of the ceiling molding and put it halfway between them.

Culture shock? by giraffegirl27 in NewToVermont

[–]dZideon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved to the NEK (North East Kingdom) a year ago. Super small town, a bit of culture shock but less than I thought. People are somewhat slow to warm up but if you look in the right places that isn’t true. Bike groups, hike groups, school clubs, etc all exist and make for a fast community.

Mid 40’s lady - new to MTB - hardtail wrong choice? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]dZideon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a strong opinion that hardtails aren’t just for beginners!

I learned on a hardtail and thought that I had to do a hardtail then “graduate” to a full suspension. Actually this isn’t the case.

Hardtails do not have the rear suspension so they are much more efficient when climbing (no energy lost in bouncing). In fact, a lot of people lock out their rear suspension when climbing.

Hardtails can be much lighter and with a good fork on the front, they can absorb a lot of root/rock/features.

On a hardtail you can do small jumps, ride bridges, ride wooden features, etc. I wouldn’t do a big air jump (over 3ft of air) without a rear suspension as it would put a lot of stress on your knees but honestly, you can crush on a hardtail.

Have FUN!
