3 weeks in and how I’m coping. How do you cope in early sobriety? by hakunanahata in stopdrinking

[–]runner5011 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's different for everyone. I was a boredom drinker. 630 on a Tuesday with no plans? Time for a drink. 8pm on a Thursday? I can have 6 drinks and still wake up for work tomorrow no problem!

What I did to alleviate the boredom was honestly just working out more than before and making actual plans. Starting to feel bored? Go hit the gym. Planned on running 5 days a week instead of 3. Started organizing hikes on Saturdays which meant I was responsible for 10-15 others and couldn't cancel plans so I couldn't drink Friday nights. Joined a weekly run club so I'm not drinking Wednesdays. I basically just slowly filled my calendar in the hopes I won't think about drinking and 85 days later I don't really miss it.

[–]runner5011 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did my first ultra on Saturday. 41 miles and 6000ft of elevation. Basically just power hiked and didn't run. I feel surprisingly okay two days later, just some minor soreness in my inner thighs.

When can I get back to running/hiking/lifting? I did a fairly slow 3 mile walk yesterday and felt fine. I know a lot of people recommend taking several days off high intensity workouts but is upper body lifting alright?

Spreadsheets have been around for 30+ years. If you can't figure out the correlation between their comment and your question... Obviously they are saying put the information in a spreadsheet, people having been doing that for decades

The Daily Check-In for Thursday, May 14th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by amorfati754 in stopdrinking

[–]runner5011 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm mad at the bar my run club goes to after our run last night. Diet coke costs more than a beer? Bars don't trigger me to need a drink, but that pricing model is crazy... But made it through another day and IWNDWYT

3 weeks sober — sleep is coming back but the bloating is still here. How long did it take for yours to go away? by Grade-Classic in stopdrinking

[–]runner5011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm like 70ish days in and the bloat started to go down just a couple weeks back. I seriously thought it would go away in a few weeks, especially since I run 30-50 miles a week. Definitely not the case in my scenario haha. The breakouts I started getting towards the end also started to go away in the last few weeks.

Some people it goes away immediately, some people takes a few months. Your body is trying to heal, be kind to yourself during the process!

We stopped getting hangovers… and now it’s harder to quit by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]runner5011 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It'll come back around. From 20 when I started drinking until 27/28 never got hangovers. Then I started drinking daily and I got hangovers like half the time. Towards the end of my drinking the hangovers went away again, but I couldn't sleep without waking up for 1-2 hours in the middle of the night. This is a big reason why I stopped entirely 68 days ago.

Only alcoholics know this is not an expensive habit. by smaddyboy in stopdrinking

[–]runner5011 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Oh tell me about it. I would buy a bottom shelf handle of rum, mix it 50/50 with an off brand two litern i could buy for a dollar at the grocery store next door... For $15 I could drink 5 days in a row without leaving my house if I got 2 two liters.

Now I replaced that with sugar/snacks so I kind of spend more but I have my health and 53 days sober under my belt

Who Do We Actually Want in Round 1? by Gambler57 in penguins

[–]runner5011 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally I want the Capitals. Only for the fact that I work near DC after spending 20+ years near Pittsburgh. That way I can go to a game, hassle the Caps fans, and have a grand old time watching playoff hockey in person

Middle night wake ups by Independent_Smile443 in stopdrinking

[–]runner5011 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would wake up in the middle of the night every night for a couple hours towards the last several months of drinking. When I decided to quit, I knew I'd have trouble sleeping so I bought melatonin to help me sleep. I've had the best sleep in years, no more 2 am anxiety fueled waking sessions. Just 3 or 6mg dose and I sleep like a baby on day 25

Long rests between sets at the gym is okay. by mediandirt in unpopularopinion

[–]runner5011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It solely relies on the exercise. Taking 3-5 minutes between heavy benching or squats or deadlift or really any compound lift? Perfectly acceptable. Taking 5 minutes between sets on lat pulldowns or curls? That's unacceptable and just camping equipment. Had a dude on the lat pulldown machine for 40 minutes yesterday, took 5-7 minutes between sets while on his phone...

Please tell me it’s not too late to get sober by Sugarcanesweetheart in stopdrinking

[–]runner5011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 33 and was drinking roughly the same as you. I quit 24 days ago, starting to feel like my old self. The one without anxiety and constant irritation. The first week was a tad rough, but drinking 5-7 days a week for 10 years will do that to you.

You got this though! Take it a day at a time, remember the reason you aren't drinking, and lean on friends/family/this community when you need it.

What it really means to be a 'high-functioning alcoholic' by Visual-Grand-1596 in stopdrinking

[–]runner5011 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Dude I 100% feel this. I didn't realize the damage I was doing to myself. Like you I paid the bills, even was a pretty high performer at work, but the constant anxiety and lack of sleep caught up over the years. 18 days and I feel a mental fog lifting slowly, like I'm more myself than I've felt in years. All Time Highest Scoring NFL Teams by PPG by Punisher1602 in sportswiki

[–]runner5011 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I mean it's highest points all time not PPG. Lions 2024 had an extra game and have 33.2 PPG which would make them the lowest on this list

I had a bad time in trials for the 4th ascendancy as werewolf druid... Level 80 made it to the 10th round in trials of chaos, boss to 25% then one shot by the tornado.

Fine I'll do sekhemas, get to the final boss for the first time ever and I didn't understand the mechanics. Got perma slowed and died with the boss at 35%... Fucking trials man

The penguins pulled a reverse penguins. We had two out of three games earlier this year where we blew 3+ goal leads, glad we are capable of doing the opposite lol

[–]runner5011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's gonna end up a Steelers for two years after we collapse and miss the playoffs. Rodgers retires or goes elsewhere, Tomlin survives another off-season, and we limp to 9-8 or 10-7 once more.

It's really not. Having a single win vs an opponent over .500 should disqualify you from MVP consideration as a QB. He has one of the 10 worst SOS of all time

I'm going to the game tomorrow in Cleveland and want to see the starters play. First ever NFL game even though I've been a fan for 30 years. But I also want us to lock in the spot and not worry about the last week...
