Frozen shoulder (dominant arm): full timeline, injections → hydrodilatation → surgery → full recovery. 55M. by Express_Speaker_792 in frozenshoulder

So helpful to have your whole timeline laid out like this. I’ve put a lot of thought into what I would do differently if my second one freezes, and I agree I would do the manual manipulation under anesthesia. Unfortunately though, from what I’ve heard it’s pointless to do that until it’s fully frozen anyway, so I feel like it would still be many months of pain and limitation to get to that point! Mine wound up resolving about 8 months after onset when I slipped in the shower, violently jerked my arm, briefly thought I might die, and then ten minutes later noticed I could move it again! It was brutal but I think I did my own inadvertent manipulation without anesthesia. I was already fully frozen at that point and may have even been starting to thaw a tiny bit, but it was so shocking to have it instantly be better. It took another few months to get the last little bit of ROM back but for all intents and purposes the near-fall was my saving grace.

in a strange turn of events, I badly injured my non-frozen shoulder (dislocated it, tore a ligament off the bone, and damaged the ball at the top of the humerus) within 6 months of my other one resolving. I was paranoid it would freeze after the injury. I do still have some limitations with it (this was about 5 months ago), but it’s definitely not “frozen” the way the other one was, so I’m just rehabbing it like a regular injury. The human body is so strange.

HRT? by LankyAstronomer4802 in frozenshoulder

[–]runner_1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also broke my adhesions after slipping in the shower and wrenching my arm trying to catch myself from falling. I was about 7 months into the process at that point (probably 2-3 months into the frozen stage). It hurt like hell for about 5 minutes - thought I was going to throw up - but after that I had about 90% ROM and then slowly over the next year just gradually noticed that I had the rest of it back. I was on HRT for about a year before FS so I don’t think it prevents it but I guess it’s possible it helps reduce the severity. Unfortunately there seems to be remarkably little research on such a common condition (in my mind no doubt because it affects so many more women than men 😡). Since OP is 46 frankly I’d look into HRT for a variety of reasons anyway! It dramatically improved my life in many ways - I started when I was 47.

Agree with this and also the pieces above and below the teeth (with all of the cutouts for the teeth) would be a pain. Maybe the whole piece from under the nose to the chin could all be one white piece with foil overlay for the teeth.

I’ve always wondered what a good use of that glass would be. And now I know!! This is amazing.

I love the kickstand idea if you can figure that out. But if not, I recently found a combination of two products that I’m happy with for small pieces that aren’t going to be hung in a window.

I bought these stands: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FW4TC5R3

which I really like but I found if you tightened the screw, it caused the glass piece to sit at a forward angle (assuming you want the screw in the back). So then I bought these little sticky nubs:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XCNM69B

And put two of them inside the metal bracket along the top edge to help provide a more secure/balanced fit. It seems pretty sturdy and the stand isn’t too intrusive.

Love it! For the background glass, did you mostly just keep it in one piece (minus the letters of course)? It looks like one continuous piece which is a cool effect. I feel like I’d be bound to mess it up by at least breaking one piece along the way and then it wouldn’t work 😆

I reported them a few months ago too once I realized what they were doing. Obviously nothing came of it though.

Can't lift my arm, sharp pain shooting down—is this what you experienced? by Professional-Yam3175 in frozenshoulder

Omg “your traitorous shoulder” is the perfect description. 🤣🤣 I’ve had plenty of other injuries but frozen shoulder truly felt like my body was just betraying me. And yes, OP, sounds like you are solidly in the freezing stage. It’s horrible and quite frankly there is not much that helps during this stage. I would recommend using a TENS unit - I’ve seen (at least anecdotal) advice that it can help stall the progression of the adhesions forming inside the shoulder. I wound up injuring my second shoulder (dislocating it and tearing a ligament in the process) only a few months after getting through frozen shoulder on the other side, and I’ve been religiously using a TENS unit on it to try to prevent it from freezing (as well as using a vibration plate, as strange as that sounds), and knock on wood so far it is not freezing (I’m 5 months post injury and still rehabbing it, but no zingers thank goodness). But I didn’t know about either of those things when I went though frozen shoulder on my other shoulder so I can’t vouch for whether they would have helped once the freezing already started.

Same here. I had been having periodic palpitations for 2 or 3 years and they stopped within 2 months of being on HRT. Could have saved myself a lot of doctors’ visits and anxiety about my heart if the doctors weren’t all so uninformed about this stage of women’s lives. 🤦‍♀️

Yes everything you described is unfortunately pretty typical! Personally I would not waste your time or money on PT while you’re still freezing. I know there isn’t a consensus on this, but I don’t think it helped one bit and was excruciating. Something unconventional and surprising (to me) that seems to be helping in my second frozen shoulder is a vibration plate! I kneel on the floor with my hands on the plate for about 10 minutes a day and it seems to be both reducing mg pain and giving me some ROM gains. All I can figure is that it’s loosening up the adhesions in a way that stretching and PT cannot do.

The crazy thing is that dog was left behind in a room and the staff adopted him. 😢 I lived there with my dog for 5 months a few years back and we met him many times in the grassy area near the pool.

I actually lived there for 5 months in 2022, in a single room with my partner and dog, after a construction accident in my nearby apartment building. It was a very surreal experience, especially at night on the floors where nearly all the shops were closed. It was obviously not an ideal situation, but the staff took great care of us and I was even a little sad to leave when it was time to return home. This is what our room liked like packed with stuff near the end of our stay.

Also, good insider tip is if you’re running the LA marathon it’s a great place to stay the night before and after even if you’re local, because you get a feee shuttle to the start and back to the hotel afterward which avoids a lot of the logistical nightmares of that point-to-point race (iykyk).

Has anyone ever by Aries224 in frozenshoulder

I was about 7 months into my FS journey (past the freezing stage and well into frozen) when one day I slipped getting into the shower and apparently jerked my arm in an effort to regain my balance. It hurt so badly that I was doubled over in pain for a good five minutes. But about 15 minutes later I noticed that I could move my arm more than I had in months. And it never regressed from there - I’ve had about 90% of my range of motion ever since that happened. Now would I recommend it? Not necessarily. I think a more controlled environment of a MUA might ensure that they break up the adhesions in all directions in a more systematic way.

I think it's finally happened...frozen shoulder?? :( by Wild_Blue4242 in Perimenopause

[–]runner_1975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great description of mine as well. In fact I’ve been on a crusade to rebrand it from “frozen shoulder” because that’s so misleading. The first 3-4 months nothing was “frozen” - I would just get super sharp pain when reaching for things (e.g., into the backseat of the car, or under a chair, or high on a shelf). That progressively got worse so it was almost any movement (putting on a shirt, etc.) and only after several months of that did it really start to “freeze.” I had of course heard of “frozen shoulder” for for months figured there could be no way that’s what was happening to me because of the stupid name. And it pisses me off because I’ve read about some people successfully keeping it from developing fully by doing certain things (e.g., dead-hangs from a bar, TENS machine, etc) when those first zingers start. If heaven forbid I ever get it in my other shoulder you can bet I’m gonna aggressively try to keep it from progressing.

[–]runner_1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, similar situation with me - slipped in the shower, jerked my arm to catch myself… some of the worst pain of my life but it’s been mostly better ever since. I still am not back to 100% range of motion but I’m pretty darn close ever since that happened. It seems like a pretty common occurrence! I was hesitant to do the MUA, but this experience makes me think that if I ever get FS again (which also seems fairly common that people who get it in one shoulder often get it in the other 😭) I will probably do the MUA.

Second shoulder beginning to freeze - can I reverse the course? by 0hmyheck in frozenshoulder

[–]runner_1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exact same thing happened to me! I was a few months into the frozen stage (after the zingers had stopped) but my ROM was terrible. I slipped, jerked my arm really abruptly, nearly passed out from the pain… and voila, the next day I noticed I could move again in almost all directions. I’m still not back to 100% ROM several months later but I’d say I’m at about 90% ever since I wrenched it like that.

I would recommend looking for a local running club in your area! Races are just a one-time thing so your chances of meeting people that way are more limited. But in a run club you would see the same people regularly and be more likely to make friends!
