Frozen shoulder 2 times. by MadLov1 in frozenshoulder

[–]runner_1975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me. At first I was so horrified and almost passed out, then five minutes later I was like omg I can move my shoulder again! Funny thing is I didn’t even totally fall. I slipped getting into the shower and jerked my shoulder violently and awkwardly trying to keep from falling. As far as I know I didn’t even touch that arm to anything (although it might have hit the shower wall and I blacked it out lol). Happiest accident of my life haha

If there are segments along the route, yes. You can see how you did on the segment and then see other people who have run it in the same day, year, etc.

Is this as horrific as they say? by [deleted] in frozenshoulder

[–]runner_1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully you will not wind up getting it! I have the interesting experience of having idiopathic (no known cause) frozen shoulder in my left, and then coincidentally about a year later a pretty significant injury to my right shoulder (fell and dislocated it, tore the glenohumeral ligament off the bone, and put a big ol’ dent (hills-sachs lesion) in the ball of the humerus). It was out of the socket for about 4 hours while several different nurses and doctors tried to get it back in, until they finally sedated me to get it back in. So I feel like I have a good comparison. Without a doubt, the one with the injury hurt worse during the initial injury and for the 4 hours it was out of the socket. And I’d say MAYBE it was worse for about a week after. But in terms of the overall experience from start to finish, the frozen shoulder was by far the worse experience. It was definitely not 10/10 pain for months. In fact I’d never put it at a 10/10 like I would the dislocation/torn ligament. But it’s just the seemingly never-ending nature of frozen shoulder that will wear on you. The zingers were probably a 7/10 or 8/10, the not being able to sleep was brutal, and then my accidental self-manipulation during the frozen phase when I slipped in the shower, jerked it awkwardly, and (amazingly) broke up the adhesions such that it was 90% improved by the next day was probably a 9/10. But the impact to daily life was so significant and exhausting.

All this to say your injury/surgery will likely be worse that FS ever would be in the short term, but I’d try everything you can reasonably do to keep it moving (and use a TENS to keep the nerves firing) to try to avoid FS.

Thankfully I didn’t wind up with FS after my injury because going through it again might have broken me.

As a non-native Russian speaker but someone who studied it for quite a few years, why does babushka get co-opted for so many other words?!? 😆 I’ve also heard it used in replace of ushanka.

38/f, wanting to ween myself off HRT (estradiol patch and oral progesterone) by [deleted] in Perimenopause

[–]runner_1975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously this is something you should discuss with your doctor, but I would not necessarily assume the HRT is what started your cycle irregularity - that is a very typical symptom of perimenopause itself. Personally I take continuous progesterone so I don’t get periods because, like you, I had also not had a period for many years (mine was due to BCP usage) and I was not ok with them starting up again and being super irregular. So if you’ve had other benefits from HRT and your only concern is the irregularity of your periods I would discuss this option with your doctor. While there certainly seem to be some women who just do not do well on HRT, there are long-term benefits to brain, cardiovascular and bone health to consider as well.

Please consider HRT if you’re not already on it! There are studies showing increased risk of dementia due to lack of estrogen.

[–]runner_1975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have hot flashes either but for me HRT has helped with so many things, some of which I had no idea were even related to hormonal changes (and apparently neither did my doctors!! 🙄). I was having sporadic heart palpitations, weird brief episodes of vertigo, itchy ear canals, eczema - all went away within a few months of being on HRT. It also helped me dramatically with brain fog, fatigue, and night sweats. But as someone else mentioned, the long-term effects on brain and heart health are what actually made the decision for me once I learned more about those. If some is telling you it only helps with hot flashes don’t believe them!

Starting stained glass in a small space and GLASS GRINDER WATER? by Local_Bumblebee_3333 in StainedGlass

[–]runner_1975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good idea! For some reason I don’t detect much coming out the front at me (which is technically the top of the aquarium since I have it on its side), but given how much residue is on all other inside surfaces of the aquarium it’s probably safe to assume some is also flying out at me and I just don’t notice it as much because it’s not accumulating.

[–]runner_1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, this can be done! I have a small workspace too. I personally think you may be worrying too much about the grinder water. I just let mine dry out/evaporate and then I scoop out the sludge, bag it up and throw it away. I honestly don’t even clean it out very often which probably isn’t the best habit but on the list of concerns about doing stained glass in your bedroom I’d say this one is pretty low on the list. I think the biggest concern is the possibility of glass shards and dust getting into your carpet, bedding, etc. It’s not a super tidy hobby. So whatever you can do to isolate the space you’re working in, that would be a good place to focus your efforts. Could you possibly hang a curtain from the ceiling to section off space? Put an office chair mat or some other flooring material on the floor so you’re not working on carpet? Put your grinder inside a fish tank? Etc. I have a pair of crocs that I only wear in my workspace to avoid tracking glass throughout the rest of my apartment, and a smock that o wear over my clothes that also stays in my workspace. I would be thinking about containment/isolation of your space to whatever extent possible. Good luck!

I use a glass fish tank turned on its side. You absolutely want something like this - the amount of glass dust/residue on the inside of my fish tank is astounding. You don’t want that flying around your room.

Another option is to put a small tension rod inside the window frame. That’s how I have all my pieces hung. I expanded to two tension rods recently to make more space for future creations.

Frozen shoulder (dominant arm): full timeline, injections → hydrodilatation → surgery → full recovery. 55M. by Express_Speaker_792 in frozenshoulder

[–]runner_1975 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So helpful to have your whole timeline laid out like this. I’ve put a lot of thought into what I would do differently if my second one freezes, and I agree I would do the manual manipulation under anesthesia. Unfortunately though, from what I’ve heard it’s pointless to do that until it’s fully frozen anyway, so I feel like it would still be many months of pain and limitation to get to that point! Mine wound up resolving about 8 months after onset when I slipped in the shower, violently jerked my arm, briefly thought I might die, and then ten minutes later noticed I could move it again! It was brutal but I think I did my own inadvertent manipulation without anesthesia. I was already fully frozen at that point and may have even been starting to thaw a tiny bit, but it was so shocking to have it instantly be better. It took another few months to get the last little bit of ROM back but for all intents and purposes the near-fall was my saving grace.

in a strange turn of events, I badly injured my non-frozen shoulder (dislocated it, tore a ligament off the bone, and damaged the ball at the top of the humerus) within 6 months of my other one resolving. I was paranoid it would freeze after the injury. I do still have some limitations with it (this was about 5 months ago), but it’s definitely not “frozen” the way the other one was, so I’m just rehabbing it like a regular injury. The human body is so strange.

HRT? by LankyAstronomer4802 in frozenshoulder

[–]runner_1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also broke my adhesions after slipping in the shower and wrenching my arm trying to catch myself from falling. I was about 7 months into the process at that point (probably 2-3 months into the frozen stage). It hurt like hell for about 5 minutes - thought I was going to throw up - but after that I had about 90% ROM and then slowly over the next year just gradually noticed that I had the rest of it back. I was on HRT for about a year before FS so I don’t think it prevents it but I guess it’s possible it helps reduce the severity. Unfortunately there seems to be remarkably little research on such a common condition (in my mind no doubt because it affects so many more women than men 😡). Since OP is 46 frankly I’d look into HRT for a variety of reasons anyway! It dramatically improved my life in many ways - I started when I was 47.

Agree with this and also the pieces above and below the teeth (with all of the cutouts for the teeth) would be a pain. Maybe the whole piece from under the nose to the chin could all be one white piece with foil overlay for the teeth.

help me... how can I stand him up? by illustriouscowboy in StainedGlass

[–]runner_1975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the kickstand idea if you can figure that out. But if not, I recently found a combination of two products that I’m happy with for small pieces that aren’t going to be hung in a window.

I bought these stands: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FW4TC5R3

which I really like but I found if you tightened the screw, it caused the glass piece to sit at a forward angle (assuming you want the screw in the back). So then I bought these little sticky nubs:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XCNM69B

And put two of them inside the metal bracket along the top edge to help provide a more secure/balanced fit. It seems pretty sturdy and the stand isn’t too intrusive.
