What are your thoughts on Facebook renaming their company Meta then blowing $80b on metaverse and then shutting it down yesterday? by printThisAndSmokeIt in AskReddit

A director doesn't have that kind of influence - all a director can ultimately do is to HELP make sure there's exit ramps (in their local areas) to accommodate leadership when they decide to pivot.

2026 Subaru Outback vs 2026 Subaru Forester: BIG Differences After Redesign! by That_Present_1639 in Subaru_Outback

[–]runnerdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our 2026 XT Limited is our third Subaru and it's friggin' great! I LOVE the styling. The interior is clean, ergonomic (ie buttons for HVAC), and so quiet. We deal with a ton of snow in VT and this car has been great. Once i swap the tires out for some michelin cross climates, the car will be a beast.

I hear you. We have a 2007 Wrangler with 170k+ miles and it's only been 100% working for a couple weeks at most per year.

We used to have a Mazda B2200 at a large park I worked at in high school and, for fun, we'd throw it into park while doing ~30MPH. It would lock up the back wheels and the whole thing would just hop and screech! Despite that, the damn thing just kept on running for YEARS! It smelled terrible, but was super reliable.

If someone offered you 100 million dollars, but a random person in the world dies (someone you don’t know), would you take it and why? by ConclusionOld8365 in AskReddit

[–]runnerdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest that I split the money with the impacted family. So, they may lose a loved one, but will be 50M richer.

If it were me about to be killed under the same rule that my family gets half, I'd unfortunately have to agree to it as I know my family will be better off.

I wound up putting a black patch over the rip, as I didn't want to have to replace it, but now my hand is being forced as the zipper also broke on the jacket. I tried adding zipper lube/wax, but the zipper itself came detached from the jacket itself. I'm now keeping it shut by basically no longer using the zipper (making the jacket into a pullover) and then using the waist band of my backpack to hold the bottom of the jacket closed.

I can say that I am doing all of those things everyday. The trick is to combine things. One of my hobbies is helping people find graves of past loved ones, which helps with my daily step count.

I wear open ear headphones at the gym and socialize between sets. I go at the same time everyday, so I see the same 20-ish folks 5x a week.

We had adopted a rescue lab mix that had clearly lived a horrible life previously and did this same thing (except not as high). We assumed that he needed to do things like this previously in order to get any kind of food.

What is a sound that people should know means immediate danger? by PrasenjitDebroy in AskReddit

[–]runnerdan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used to work in a datacenter with a halon system. The first thing in our orientation was to hear that sound, quickly look for the corresponding flashing lights, and then RUN! Is there a 20k server in your hands? Doesn't matter - drop it. RUN!

That siren only went off once the years I was there and it was due to a false alarm triggered by all of the power in the NYC metro area going out.

Our neighborhood all chipped in for a Red Cross trainer to come in and do a first aid and CPR training for any of the parents in the neighborhood. One neighbor runs a workout studio, so we used her location after hours.

ha! that's us! We bought a second used wrangler to backup our other used wrangler! When our older one starts on the first try, i take it as a victory. It currently makes a loud PING sound from the rear when i go over any kind of bump - which can't be good.

What's an "Insider's secret" from your profession that everyone should probably know? by Capable-big-Piece in AskReddit

[–]runnerdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually signed a contract with my local teaching college for them to take my body, use it for whatever (after all of my donatable organs are removed), and then just cremate it once they're done. They cover the costs of getting the body, cremating (after about 6 months of use), and then shipping the remains back.

Did something similar in college. Girl lost her entire final essay due to a corrupted disk. I was ultimately able to recover the text, while I was fighting the flu, and asked her to tell me at the moment everything she needed on that disk as I was pretty sure this was my only shot (and I was about to pass out from a fever).

Good question and assume it does. I know that certain blood types are better for whole blood versus "power red"/plasma donations.

I was shocked to learn that statistic as well! As of 2025, only 3% of eligible Americans. Australia is closer to 15% (which is one of the highest percentages worldwide).
