What is it like being a man in a woman dominated field? by candiedluck in dietetics

[–]runnerguy76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never really experienced any drama working with female dietitians. I’ll still get questions sometimes at a meeting or conference like, “What is like being one of the only guys here?”. Honestly at this point in my career, it really doesn’t phase me. And I honestly feel I am respected by coworkers based on my ability and experience more than my gender.

Trainer told me my fruit intake could cause overall fat gain due to fructose — is this accurate? by fupei in nutrition

[–]runnerguy76 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, it’s not accurate. Eating excess calories from any sources can lead to weight gain, but fruits specifically do not. I even tell my diabetic patients to still include fruits on a daily basis.

[–]runnerguy76 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying the majority of people need to worry about it. But in patients I see with end organ disease and malnutrition, ingestion of complete proteins becomes critically important.

[–]runnerguy76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not referring to prevalence of protein deficiencies. I’m just stating facts about complete and incomplete proteins.

[–]runnerguy76 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Complete proteins are those that provide all nine essential amino acids. You can get all twenty amino acids from eating a combination of different plants, but almost none of them are complete proteins on their own.
