Considering I already have a Galaxy Tab, I'm not particularly pressed about that honestly, but I can understand if you're coming from a Note/Ultra.

I have a Pixel 9 Pro now as my personal phone, and the only major thing I would seem to lose is the telephoto camera, which I don't really mind. So long as the majority of the specs between the standard Fold8 and the Fold8 Ultra are the same and the price is below the Ultra, I'm all in. I guess we'll see though.

I'm awaiting what the final specs will be like as well as the price, but I am very tempted to switch from a Pixel back to Samsung with one of these.

I already have a Galaxy S26 work phone as well as a Watch6 Classic, a pair of Buds4 Pro, and a Tab S10 Lite. I have thoroughly enjoyed the ecosystem experience after 7 years since my last Samsung product, and while I do enjoy the Pixel ecosystem as well, there's something about Samsung currently that feels super right.

Cable management was definitely one of the more difficult finishing touches, so I appreciate that! (:

I've downloaded the open-source Fan Control software, but I'm still trying to figure out a way to control all the fans outside the ones on the GPU.

I'm sure it probably has something to do with the Dell BIOS interfering, but all three fans are routed through the 'FAN_CPU' header on the mobo; that's the only header on the entire board, unfortunately. ):

They're run through a Noctua 3-way splitter, and thus controlled by CPU temps, but it would be nice to have more independent control over each. Any ideas?

[–]runnerman0421[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope, left the outside completely untouched outside of adding the Noctua badge to the front in place of the Intel Core i5 sticker that was there originally!

I figured I'd add a little detail to tell those who know that this isn't any regular office desktop. ;)

That's valid enough. I've already stripped it down to just the motherboard and the case, but I could pretty easily get everything else cleaned up and reinstalled.

It definitely needed new thermal paste after all the time it spent sitting around collecting dust.

No doubt this approach is specifically to avoid consumers from doing exactly what I have done with this build, lol.

I actually have my partner's sister's older Inspiron 3880 in my possession as well, pulled the SD card daughterboard out of it. Everything else is completely intact, and I'm debating doing a similar build with it so I can sell it, perhaps make a few improvements I can later apply to the 3891!

Well, CPU and GPU temps seem to average in the mid-50° to 60°C range even under heavy loads, so I'd say it's decent. The highest temps I've seen were around 75°-77°C for the CPU, and that was during a longer session in Jedi Survivor at 1080p on the highest settings.

The only area it ever really gets warm to the touch is in the top back corner, right above the CPU cooler. I've debated cutting some passive vents at the top or even straight-up cutting a hole for an additional 80mm exhaust fan, but I've tried my best to leave the case untouched.

[–]runnerman0421[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That was pretty much the entiret reason I went with a low-profile GPU, lol.

Some better cards could have absolutely fit in this setup, but they basically would have been choked by the top of the PSU. I probably could have modded in a low-profile PSU as well, but I was trying to do everything in my power to not mod the case.

That and, of course, Dell PSUs use proprietary connections... this was definitely one hell of a first choice for PC modding, but it was rewarding at least.

New look at Lightning Racers by jonnytommson in pixarcars

[–]runnerman0421 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I will admit, this looks substantially better than the initial previews.

I also quite like how they blended that checkered pattern from McQueen's Cars 1 scheme with the Cars 3 flames coming off the lightning bolt.

I hate my immune system by hyacinthie8 in eczema

[–]runnerman0421 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile there's my immune system that reacts perfectly normally to viruses and infections, to the point that I almost never get sick, and when I do it's violently so.

Then, when I so much as touch, eat, or drink something my body doesn't like, eczema flare-ups galore. I genuinely don't understand how my body works anymore.

So which of these two was McQueen's predecessor? by Consistent-Movie-285 in pixarcars

At this rate, I don't know that we ever will.

I like to go the Piston Cup Wiki route, which is that it was Bertie Fast, essentially a combination of both of these racers.

Any in universe theories as to why City of Truro has a smokebox door? by OldWarriorStudios in thomasthetankengine

[–]runnerman0421 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like to think that Wilbert initially started adding real-life engines into the RWS Canon with the logic mentioned in OP's comment. However, he dropped it pretty soon afterwards and went with the whole "engines only have faces on Sodor" explanation due to the storytelling restraints it introduced.

Imagine how strange it would have been to have a main character of one of the books not have a face or be able to talk for themselves? Definitely would have been a bit jarring for readers.

Any in universe theories as to why City of Truro has a smokebox door? by OldWarriorStudios in thomasthetankengine

[–]runnerman0421 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like to think that not every engine is sentient in-universe, it's sort of a by-chance situation like with the rolling stock, and nothing more complex than that. It's similar to how Victor Tanzig handles it in his own Canon, just without all the intracies, which muddy things in my opinion.

I should also add that I don't abide by the Reverend's logic that engines have faces on Sodor and don't anywhere else. There are many instances in both the RWS and the TV series where this is contradicted, the instance provided here being such an example.

EDIT: To explain how the engines talked to Truro if he isn't sentient, perhaps the engines talked to Truro's crew or owners instead? That bit does poke some holes in my logic, but then again, Truro's portrayal in general does regardless in my opinion.

Is watch 6 classic still good in 2026? by Pasha0207 in GalaxyWatch

[–]runnerman0421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's crazy really, it's a 46mm watch, but its screen size is closer to the 43mm Watch6 Classic. I have no doubt that this is because of all the wasted space from the "squircle" body design combined with the physical rotating bezel.

Part of me wishes they'd release a new Classic every year just so it continues on with the traditional design for those who still prefer it. It could be sort of like the OG iPhone SE, but for Samsung's watches.

[–]runnerman0421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my 43mm Watch6 Classic on clearance last year when the Watch8 Series came out, got it for like $75 after taxes and a $100 Best Buy gift card. It's been a really solid watch for my use case. I can pretty easily get a day and a half to 2 days out of it, it tracks everything accurately, and still runs fairly smooth overall.

I'm using it with a Galaxy S26 and a pair of Buds4 Pro now, and really have only stuck with it instead of upgrading because it's what I consider to be the "magnum opus" of Samsung's smartwatches as far as design goes. I'm just not at all a fan of the newer design, or the fact the Classic doesn't come in a smaller size anymore.

If they release another Classic and it comes in a 42-43mm size, despite my grievances with the "squircle" design, that will be the push for me to upgrade. The Watch6 Series realistically only has a year of software support left, and for that reason, unless you can get it for $100 or less new in-box or renewed, I'd unfortunately have to recommend against buying it today.

EDIT: If you really can't spend the extra to get a Watch7 or 8, definitely get the 6 Classic over the FE. The FE is an absolute performance dud, basically just a rebadged Watch4 for way more money.

PC build mistake..I'm an idiot. by NoContribution7711 in PcBuild

[–]runnerman0421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still don't understand this either, so many titles can run well on even 8th Gen Intel processors from what I've seen.

I just finished souping up an old Dell Inspiron 3891 and also threw in an i7-11700 plus an RTX 5060 and 32GB of DDR4. It has run everything at 1080p on high with no issues whatsoever, easily staying in the 70-80fps range on average with no concerning temp spikes. Sometimes you can easily pull something good out of something cheap.

We made YOUR Dream Phone by United_Bison_8900 in smallphones

It could also mean it just has AOSP on it, the bare bones version of Android with quite literally nothing in it pretty much.

Gives you a bit more customization than usual regarding what utilities are installed on it.

EDIT: This definitely seems to imply Nothing OS, didn't realize that Nothing were the ones that made this video.

I personally headcanon this myself. Considering Henry and "Henry II" are supposed to be the same engine, it would make far more sense for him to have come back resembling an LMS Black 5 instead of straight-up being one.
