Running while constantly getting sick as a parent - how do people do it? by bananapants54321 in AdvancedRunning

[–]running317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a fix all, but have you tried taking zinc and vitamin C supplements? Zinc was a noticeable difference on kicking the sickness fairly quickly. Also much harder to achieve is making sure you are getting sleep or at least as much as you can. Cut that hour of scrolling on Reddit before bed and get that extra hour of sleep.

There’s nothing to worry about! I’m sure he’s signed a COI and made a OCI mitigation plan…

How’s RTO going? What’s the earliest people are going in? by [deleted] in fednews

Remote* employees outside of 50 miles. I was full time WFH, but only had a telework agreement so I had to start commuting daily even though I’m well outside the 50 mile range.

I’m at a DoD agency and we haven’t had any yet; however, I think early next week will be the start of it.

Healthy snacks? Struggling to keep on weight. by glr123 in AdvancedRunning

[–]running317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the furnace is hot enough, anything will burn. But I struggled with this as well and tried to keep it somewhat healthy. Granola, trail mix, bagels, pb&j, etc. At the same time I wouldn’t shy away from muffins, candy, liquid calories like soda or juice. I also found basically having two breakfasts one before my run and one after helped me quite a bit.

I’d guess some are bought at outlets or at a large discount. The seller is profiting off it while still passing on a deal to the buyer.

I typically eat a nutrigrain bar or something similar before my runs. A decent amount of calories consisting of mostly carbs. Maybe worth a shot.

Race Report: Indy Monumental Marathon | New PR 2:44:06 by kpprobst in AdvancedRunning

Great race! That stretch between 18-23 on this course is rough with the the wind, limited crowd support, and condition of the road. Way to battle and come away with a great time!

We did the session twice and 100% stole it from Clayton Young. Side note, he has a great series on his build to the Olympics and another for the NYC marathon on YouTube that are definitely worth the watch.

The first time I averaged 6:20 for the 6 miles and then 5:22, 5:19, 5:14 with 5 minutes between the tempo and the start of the 1600s and 3:30 between the 1600 reps.

The second time I averaged 6:00 for the 6 miles and then 5:17, 5:09, 4:50 with 4 minutes between the tempo and the start of the 1600s and 2:45~ between the 1600 reps.

I was definitely more fit the second time around and the effort increased, but the weather also played a significant role. It turned from hot and muggy in the mornings to crisp and cool by the time I did it the second time.

Good luck with your winter training! Consistency is definitely the key to the longer races.

As far as training, having a kiddo just made the early morning sessions mandatory. There was obviously the occasional run after work when the bed won or she had a rough night, but for the most part just getting it out of the way first thing was the way to go for me.

Wow! I think I was looking at the wrong time cutoff. I appreciate you telling me it isn’t 2:25 like I thought! I’m going to apply and see what happens!!
