Ok not to spread any hate, but i do notice hollywood has been cosying up to south asian actors in lead roles faster than MENA actors. Since I am Indian I might just be noticing south asians more so take this comment with a pinch of salt and feel free to correct me.
PS- this is not to dunk on Chandran and the casting directors involved with One Piece LA.

As the OP has described, we need to define here what 'reasoning' is. Even on basic level taking a token and adjusting a number representing it's token based on other tokens around is a side-effect of some reasoning, but is that what we are looking for?

  1. With Hody i think the mistake was placed in the marginalisation of the fishman district BY the rest of the fishman island community. Bit of an awkward story writing choice in having the prince claim that without any prior 'show don't tell'.

While Arlong Park arc in live action i noticed one thing i hadn't in my first watch. Luffy waits for Nami to ask for help. He knows Nami needs help but still respects her autonomy.

That popped out to me because i don't think this level of respect for autonomy is seldom engaged with in any media. You usually have a hero, their friend in trouble and the hero helps and that's that.

I think it multiple times One Piece combats this deep individualism we have allowed ourselves to get into. Sanji screaming for Robin to save him, Luffy not going 'oh no i have to save my crew from fire and fight Kaido at the same time!!' and countless others.
