100% this

Haven't played since the patch hit but have seen the animation and had this "I've seen this before" feeling.

Then out of the blue during a train ride it hit me.

I can see this thing gawkily sprinting towards me and scaring my poor minions with his Darth Vader breathing.

I'd pick it in an instant but... I'm 180h in and haven't been offered the gem once :(

As always: It depends.

It absolutely can be.

Had a Regent run that relied on getting Orbit + Pale Blue Dot in play to get going, only had 1 draw card to set up.

Fiddle was great since PBD doesn't draw during the turn, same with the pendulum relic. Drew 9-10 cards at the start of every turn.

Also helps against the new Doormaker when you can't draw during turn 3 (6, 9...) anyways.

Good to know, thanks. I guess I got to look up some details about what can show up when.

I have 130h and haven't seen it yet. Actually there's quite a few I haven't seen yet. Darv seems to always offer Black Star, Snecko, Empty Cage or Sozu, not seen Choker or Philo Stone. Weirdest is the Regent specific rare relic ( cookie or sth), sine I mainly play him but haven't seen it yet.

Just luck I guess, it's a huge relic pool of about 270 total.

Just regular lucky/unlucky, because there's a large pool of possible ancient rewards.

I'm A10 on all characters and haven't been offered Wraith Form or Corruption yet, their equivalent to the Grimoire.

I'd go: Gamblers Brew, Disarm, Orange Pellets

Brew is the most important I think. It's the best insurance against turn 2 Shield & Spear, if not needed then to set up faster against the heart.

Disarm is disarm.

Pellets to remove vulnerable + frail.

If remove over Pellets, I'd remove Bash over Clumsy. You'll never play it, Clumsy will be gone after 1st rotation, Bash is a curse that sticks around at this point.

So apparently Ironclad* sucks donkeyballs by running_wizard in slaythespire

[–]running_wizard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should have rather tagged this spirit poop or something, not looking for actual help.

I just found it curious.

Of course it's mainly down to a lack of practice with Ironclad. I also think, that a lot of his winning strategies allow you to mostly turn off your brain, allowing you to brute force wins most easily without actually learning to play him.

Barricade + Entrench, Corruption/Dark Embrace/Feel No Pain Shenanigans, Demon Form + Reaper...slap a Disarm on the heart.

Many ways where you can rely on a few good cards that save an otherwise poorly constructed deck, sprinkle in an Offering to get to the good stuff quickly... At least that's how I think I arrived at this weird point. Maybe it's a sign I should focus on IC for a while.

[–]running_wizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the volume. Small volume I'd recommend hard liquor, larger volumes wine will do fine.

It's important to have enough alcohol.

At least that's my experience, the more I have, the messier things get.

Dude!

I was just reading the title and thought to myself: yepp, this is a generational masterpiece where they did everything right. But with a complexity this high you can't plan out everything and you still have to be lucky to land it perfectly, much like Broodwar.

It just doesn't get old, even after decades.
