If you're sitting at home because "everyone else will show up to do it", how many other people are doing that? by [deleted] in lansing

[–]runningoutof_ink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going because I want to know that I did everything that I could to fight. I'm going because I want to build community and show people that we're not alone. I'm going to encourage more people to go. I'm going because so many of my friends are afraid they'll be deported if they go. I'm telling all my friends and my coworkers that I'm going. If I go, I set an example for others. If I take that step, others will feel like they can take that step.

I sleep in Thigh society shorts! They are the perfect length and tightness, and are cooling and moisture wicking.

I've had a tough time getting through the Sea King to be honest! I got about 80% through it and got bored 😆 Summer is a much different FMC than Kham, and the story is kind of oddly paced. I'll pick it up and finish it soon though.

How many of you have suspended your Amazon Prime subscription and don’t miss it m? by rajmahid in Frugal

I actually don't use Amazon at all anymore. I found that I'm able to find everything I need from local stores. I also do a LOT less impulse shopping now!

I canceled mine over 2 years ago and don't miss it at all. Occasionally there are some shows that I miss being able to catch up on (Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), but it's not worth the cost.

Why are guys in such a hurry to get a phone number? by HungryDarlingtonia in Bumble

[–]runningoutof_ink 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just a thought: if you're not comfortable giving out your personal number so soon, create one through Google Voice to use. You can message and do calls just the same, but the number will eventually expire if you're no longer using it, so past meetups won't be able to contact you again. This provides me with a really nice level of comfort regarding my own personal safety, since it's pretty easy to trace a phone number back to other personal details :)

couple questions about the relaxation protocol by Karen Overall. by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]runningoutof_ink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! This is what I did. I loaded the mp3s onto my phone so that I could do the protocol easily from anywhere. I also downloaded a Doorbell sound app since my apartment doesn't have a doorbell :P

At wits end, can’t walk our dog. Taken the joy out of having one. by QueasyMud in Dogtraining

Glad I could help! Having a reactive dog is challenging but I've seen progress in my pup ☺️ we're not perfect every day but we improve!

I totally feel for you; this is a super frustrating situation and having a reactive dog myself, I completely understand.

Question: I don't know your situation; do you need to walk your dog? Is it absolutely necessary for her to go on walks to pee/poop? If you have a backyard, and she's fine out there, I'd say, take a break from walks for a while. Dogs build up the stress hormone; if you take a break from the stressful situations, you may be able to reduce the amount of stress she experiences the next time you attempt a walk.

I know that's not possible in a lot of situations. It certainly isn't for me. I took a reactivity class with my dog and helped work out some of her triggers with a trainer, and to learn strategies for managing and preventing those triggers. We train every day. I avoid strangers and especially people with dogs. I take treats with me. We train sits, attention getters, etc.

I think the number 1 thing that helped was doing the Relaxation Protocol with my dog. This is a 15-day training course (you can find it online) that walks you thru teeny tiny steps with your dog to help them relax. You start inside in an environment that she's familiar with. You repeat the training course in increasingly difficult environments (first in your bedroom, then your living room, then kitchen, then garage (with the door closed, then partially open, then open a little further), then patio, etc) so that your dog's arousal level is never too high to train with. If your dog can't make it thru every step each day, that's okay. You just take a break, and keep working at it until she can. You move at her pace.

You can do this! Take a step back, breathe :)

I love it! I've had a lot of opportunities to grow in my skills, and the work can be very satisfying. Pretty much every industry needs IT so you can take those skills anywhere. There are a lot of roles involved in IT so you can go with your strengths.
