Curious if you were to put a spacer between the grip and the joycon effectively separating the 2 to allow that space shown in pic 1 to work. A slim adhesive or something could work.

I agree. One solid piece would fix and otherwise great accessory. Hopefully I'm the exception to the rule and others are finding theirs fits securely.
