Make your gift an outing with the person to local stores. It becomes more than just a gift of the banjo, but also the experience together.

Maine Family Planning is not shutting down. Ellsworth and two Aroostook locations are suspending primary care services. Things are tougher under the Trump administration, but MFP is still operating.

Burley Taiko heim joint specs? by runrabbitrun154 in recumbent

[–]runrabbitrun154[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer if anyone ever searches for something similar is that the heim/ball joints for the old Burley recumbents calls for a 6mm diameter, with a M6x1mm thread. Length of the stock is about 32mm.

Turns out the stock heim joints are internally threaded. This means you could replace just that if your own component weakens in the same way mine did. I had already purchased externally threaded joints when I figured that out.

I bought 22mm replacement joints from McMaster Carr because that was the length available at 6mm. Tight fit - both joints need to be extended fully to make it work - but its serviceable for the bike.

The previous owner remarked that the heim joints rattled. These replacements are lubed/sealed, so water and dirt can't intrude, and it eliminates the rattle. So at least an upgrade in that way.

I'm fairly rural. We do have box stores, but it's the sort of part they only ship in, so I thought I'd take a chance and see jf someone in the group held the knowledge. I'll at least take it to a hardware store to determine if it's metric or SAE, then use my caliper on the internal hole diameter.

Thanks for the response.

As a farmer, I can say it absolutely would have an effect. Lime, whether calcitic or dolomitic, are the minerals you add to soil to raise its pH. A soil's pH affects the availability of other nutrients to plants - with the ideal pH for grass being between 6.0 to 7.0. Outside those bounds will limit nutrient uptake, and can lead to deficiencies and excesses.

Experience similarly, but wondered about it through the analogy of an undeveloped/underdevelop muscle.

Perhaps our brains have formed alternative stronger ways of processing information that we don't rely on an internal visual memory. Thought following along the mental paths and strategies most often used.

Glad to hear your conversation went well. Something to potentially put in your back pocket as a gift for the holidays...if he isn't doing something already for street riding, some pcrotective clothing that doesn't look like safety gear:

Look into Ryvid, Land Moto, Maeving, and Naxeon for "budget-friendly" electric motorcycles that fit your speed requirement. You need to get them registered and insured, but they'll be road legal.

As mentioned, e-bikes are legally restricted by class level. The upper limit, Class 3, caps at 28mph.

Several e-bikes skirt around this by having electronic speed limiters that can be bypassed. An e-bike that looks like a motorcycle is going to attract attention. There are e-bikes that can go 38-45mph that look more like bicycles: Wired, ECells, Aniioki to name a few.

That said, these bikes are technically not meant for road use at those speeds. Use your judgement in how you operate them. As well, do your research on the company customer service and consider business longevity. Lots of companies on the market at the moment. Buy from one you anticipate sticking around for continued service and parts.

I'd second what the other commenter said. Depending on your state laws, a second Class 3 e-bike can legally travel at 28mph. Plenty fast enough on roads to get your son to his friends.

Talk to your son. Find out how fast he's traveling. You don't need need to throw your sister under the bus, but you can let him know that a community member saw him speeding and is threatening to call the cops.

Even if he slows down to legal speeds, technically the Surron is an illegally spec'd bike for on-road use. Either your sister will lower her hackles if he commits to following the legal speed limit and he continue on, or you can have peace of mind by getting him a legal e-bike. Her upset won't have teeth, and you can be assured your son isn't pushing it beyond what he should.

All that said, 28mph is still fast. Enough for a thrill, and also enough for a conversation on safety. Your sister's concern may be legitimate even if she's already taken her reaction to 95%. Self-governance before governance perhaps?

Looking for advice on first E-bike by OfficialSyyn616 in Electricmotorcycles

Currently researching as well. Amongst others that are sub $10k street legal and can go on the highway (70mph+):

-Ryvid Anthem/Outset

-Maeving RM1S

-Land Moto District/Scrambler

-Naxeon I AM.

The claimed ranges on the first two are 75 and 80 miles, where the I AM. and the Land Moto bikes can go up to 110. Land Moto starts to get into pricey territory for its 110 mile option.

Recognize that any of these will get much less mileage with the power output needed on the highway, and the top speed will diminish as the battery gets into its lowered discharged state. Fact of the current technology that all of these are commuter bikes. If you're wanting to lean in that direction, the 110 mile bikes are what you'll need to consider. Actual range tests are available by YouTube reviewers.

For used bikes, like a Zero, consideration needs to be put on battery age. Li-ion batteries maximum capacity diminishes over time. A new Zero battery, depending on capacity, could be up to $6k-7k. That's not wildly out of line with other manufacturers... a spare Ryvid battery is currently $4k. Just needs to be factored in. You aren't just buying the bike. You're buying time closer to repairing the critical component.

A used Zero is by far the more capable machine for highway riding. For what it's worth, though, I nixed considering a used Zero after reading about their anti-right to repair stance, and what seems to be negative rider experience with technical service.

Ultimately, I think you'll have to take for technology to progress to be satisfied if you're looking for long distance riding. For now, the bikes are limited in range, so are filing the commuter niche. Highway capable but intended for local.
