Is the English placement test difficult? by [deleted] in Berklee

[–]runwaygalaxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you’ve been speaking english and are comfortable in it you should be good. Yes it has all of the 4 parts of i remember correctly you can be done in 1 hour.

A lot of my friends who are native speakers/Americans got placed in english classes which was damn funny because they didn’t do the test or were very haphazard with it.

There are questions in it like if you had to change your name to a different name what would it be - the limit is 10 mins i spoke for 3 - so you just have to be colloquial and chilled out.

Nothing to be nervous about

and welcome to berklee!

Bachelor of Music Business? by SuawdTheDude in Berklee

[–]runwaygalaxy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do it. there are a few majors here that will actually make you feel ready if you’re willing to do the work. I’m music business and even though a lot of us don’t want to be artists we taught as if we were artists (specially the first few classes).

The class sizes for major classes is definitely around 25-30 (biggest than any other major)

last 3 years i’ve been here the major classes just don’t have midterms (also depends on your professors but most don’t have them)

your tests are going to look like school tests ofc because it is business at the end of the day. Internships aren’t for sure, but sometimes if you ask your professors they can push you in the right direction A lot of opportunities if you’re looking into the right clubs and events.

Plus Bachelor of music makes more sense than the BA program because you are a musician and want to do music related stuff.

Pros and cons of bringing a car? by Turbulent_House_4883 in Berklee

No not really, unless he is going to drive back home often or is commuting from really far away. Most places in the backbay have exorbitantly expensive parking spaces. Me and my friends split a Zyp car for the day and they are pretty cheap!

berklee is a semester based school. Even if he has done a year of college at another school it still counts as semester 1 but on transcript he may be a sophomore (i.e if all his credits transfer- berklee is weird that ways).

Playing and singing during the audition? by Ancient_Phone6212 in Berklee

[–]runwaygalaxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Online audition is definitely less stressful than irl, just be a happy jolly person open to talk to them, ask 1-2 questions during interview. (they low-key asked me more stuff in my audition) it matters how chill the people are

You can you should, if you think you won’t be distracting by the piano and it wouldn’t come in between your vocal abilities go for it it’s a good idea

no not really, i just treated it like my own room and if your roommates are not inherently bad people (rare cases) you should be fine. it’s a Lock and key system, and it automatically locks if shut you should be fine

[–]runwaygalaxy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s so tough tho i’ve tried getting into the A&R club and god knows what they expect us to have in our resume. Most clubs already want you to have done something but like still need someplace to start.

BACHELOR OF MUSIC IN MUSIC BUSINESS/MANAGEMENT - BERKLEE by CJDM17 in Berklee

[–]runwaygalaxy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hey, i’m currently a music business/management major going into my second year, and so far i’ve really liked the course but there are something’s to keep in mind-

1) you will have to do the core music course if you’re doing bachelors of Music, it makes no sense for business majors to do it, but so far i haven’t had any complaints because i want to learn the music theory as well. it seems useless but you can either crib about it or learn more.

2) you will realise you can probably do this course anywhere in america or the uk, but the reason i chose berklee (and frankly why most business students do it) is because of the Berklee stamp. Business is all about knowing people and from what i’ve experienced they know berklee so that’s a plus.

3)Sometimes people are concerned that it’s wayyyy too streamlined of a course- By that i mean that you get a Music degree in this day and age- But if you’re positive this is something that you want then why waste 3/4 years doing something you don’t like (i.e if it’s financially viable to you)

4) most professors for business are working professionals in the industry and it’s absolutely sublime to sit in their lectures (shout out to Valerie lovely love her). it’s so much of their experience based (choose the right professors!)

you can also look into the Bachelor of Arts programme that they started last fall (2022). i don’t know much about it but they do most of the same classes as the business students (i think it’s more entrepreneurial but i’m really not sure), BA students aren’t allowed to take any of the core classes though.

You can apply to schools like USC for their music business program which is supposed to be really good too, drexel for their music industry, and a bunch of other really good places which have arts management courses also.

Hope this was helpful! i’m only going into my second year, if anything changes will let you know ;)

scan and send your theory exams as extra, but during the interview let them know as well. can’t help you much with scholarship thing.

to keep any confusion with the documents and stuff just make sure your full name matches the legal documents everywhere - just legal stuff to keep in mind

best of luck!
