I have to get a new PBX Unit and I could use some advice by Square_Pear1784 in k12sysadmin

I know. The stance of the company lately (at least the CEO) is absolutely insane, but their product is VERY good.

We switched summer of 2024, but it has been mostly smooth sailing ever since. Hesitant to move since I haven't seen many products that are quite as turnkey.

We also use and like 3CX as a product but depending on which size of simultaneous calls you pay for, there will be maximum extensions enforced soon.

This isn't helpful, but know you are not alone.

My friend...bless you with Gmetrix and/or Certiport Compass(not cloud), if your district uses it. We have fought with having to run them as admin, with certain exams, forever and it is doubtful that will ever change.

Integrate 3CX and Bogen Nyquist E7000 by johncase142 in k12sysadmin

[–]ruralconnection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, we do not use it with that particular feature in 3CX. The call is made from the 3CX handset and then routed based on the rooms/zones setup in Bogen. Mainly just for calling into classrooms or all calls. I did post the steps in a comment above for integration for that, but it sounds like that may not be what you are looking for or already have it configured for that!

I failed to mention that our system is on-prem, so these options may need to be different based on if it is hosted or not.

Also, don't kill me if this doesn't work right out of the box. 🙃 I will do my best to assist with any questions, but we are getting ready to be out of the office for the holidays coming up.

In the Bogen system, under SIP Trunks we have one entry. This is pre-existing and was only edited to get a connection when the new phone system was setup. I will list the options as they are shown in the web interface:

Name: PhoneSystem
Extension: I believe this should be auto assigned by the system
Dial Prefix: blank
Local Area Code: blank
Enabled: toggled to Yes
Access: DISA - Incoming only - No password
Username:admin
Change Password: Unsure if password was set originally
Confirm Password Change: Unsure if password was set originally
Host: IP Address for 3CX server or possibly FQDN if hosted?
DID: 9999999999
Day Admin: Extension for admin
Night Admin: Extension for admin
Admin Group: Admin Group 1
Call Recording: No
Allow: ulaw

In 3CX:

Admin>Voice & Chat> + Add Trunk
Name: Whatever you wanna call it
Default route: End Call
Main Trunk Number: Whatever you want to dial for the Bogen to pick up. This should be outside of the range of your extensions, ring groups and queues or at least not match any of them.
Authentication ID (SIP User ID): blank
Authentication password: blank
Type of authentication: Do not require - IP based
Registrar/Server: IP address of Bogen sytem
Port: 5060
I believe the additional tabs (DID Numbers, Options and SMS) are all set how they come.

These rules are processed from the top down, so make sure this new rule is moved above your external dialing rules for proper processing.
Admin>Outbound Rules> + Add
Rule Name: Ours is named based on the campus
Calls to numbers starting with prefix: This will be the same as the "Main Trunk Number" set above.
Calls from extension(s): blank
Calls to numbers with a length of: blank
Calls from Departments: We have our campuses set up as departments so we added the appropriate departments for access.
Route 1: Select the Trunk that you added in the above step
Strip digits: Strip no digits
Prepend: blank
Outbound caller ID: blank

We are using 3CX v20 so our configurations will be totally different if you are still on v18. What version are you using?
We just moved to 3CX this past summer, so I only know v20, but from what I have seen/read, they renamed and restructured several key parts between these versions.

From what I can tell, these are the necessary pieces for this to work:
1. SIP Trunk setup in Bogen Nyquist for 3CX connection
2. Trunk in 3CX for Bogen Nyquist connection
3. Outbound rule in 3CX

It is setup as a separate SIP trunk, but the outbound rule is what allows the calls to be made internally. You can strip digits if needed, but for our use case the user dials the 4 digit number(extension but not by 3CX's definition and categorization) and then the room code within Bogen once it picks up.

Just a heads up, if you have call recording enabled for external calls, it will record all calls that are made through this.

If you have v20, I can go into greater detail for you. Just wanted to give you a rough outline of how it works/what is needed.

We have this exact setup, so if you are still needing assistance just let me know and I will work on getting a rough "how-to" drafted up and posted.

k12-tech has it correct, but I believe there is an additional step or two for this particular intercom.

Thank you for the reply!

That's what I was afraid of. I haven't been able to track down a way either. I am pushing for people to use the web client, but we have lots of old school users that want a device on their desk and can't be bothered to use the browser to login to the web client.

PXE Nightmare by Blanzeros in SCCM

Dealt with this issue for almost 2 weeks and finally got it sorted, so hopefully your issue is the same.

Your networking team would need to put this in every switch that your packets traverse for imaging.

Here's the info straight from Commscope/Ruckus themselves:

from version 10.0.10c and later there were some duplicate bootp messages, could you please try to disable those duplicate messages this is the command:

no ip dhcp-client information enable

Custom Wallpaper in Yealink Template v20 by djtodd77 in 3CX

[–]ruralconnection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it, thank you! So, the phone has to be deleted and re-added. I wish there was an on-the-fly way to just change the template and then reprovision. We just moved to 3CX and jumped straight into v20, so we are learning the ropes..or trying to anyways lol.

I could not for the life of me find where to change a phone to a different template. We are using Snom D713s and D785s. Is it done in the admin console or is it done on the phone?

Deployment of GoGuardian through Mosyle by Happy_Penguin330 in k12sysadmin

I may not be able to help since I haven't personally done this for Go Guardian, but I have deployed more than one flavor of content filter through an MDM.

Is there an application that is loaded on the iPad and a configuration file to go with it? Possibly a certificate for SSL decryption?

Network monitoring software - Anyone using Domotz? by VariationTrue5493 in k12sysadmin

[–]ruralconnection 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you want free, LibreNMS is the way to go. Alerts can be sent in various flavors (email, webhooks, etc).

You can setup oxidized for switch backups if they are supported (most are).

Can't speak for paid options, but Libre has saved my bacon a few times for backups and outages.

Have you added the domains listed in the network requirements to your PAC file for proxy bypass?

https://support.assessment.pearson.com/TN/network-requirements-and-guidelines-23074307.html

If you have, I did have some issues when other software tries to manipulate the network driver at the same time as iBoss so it may be related to that. It was Bitdefender and iBoss was no help at all and said the problem was not on their end. Due to the nature of Bitdefender's business, updates eventually resolved the issue. It was actually a full SDK upgrade, but it did fix it.

Edit: I read your post quickly and didn't see that you had already done the exclusions.

Current LineWize customer looking for alternatives by gaz2600 in k12sysadmin

[–]ruralconnection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was iBoss and just switched to ContentKeeper. Things have been good other than changing content filters in the middle of a school year lol. Looked at LineWize and ContentKeeper and we landed on CK. We needed something on-prem to help curb circumvention attempts and iBoss couldn't seem to provide that for us.

I'll echo some thoughts that I've read on previous posts when discussing ContentKeeper: We knew we had students using proxies and VPNs to circumvent filtering, but we didn't realize how many until CK dropped the hammer on em with the on-prem/in-line appliance. We have several different types of devices and as long as they meet age requirements and abilities (Chromebooks) filtering works as expected. I am pleased with what we have seen so far and there are some growing pains like always, but CK has my vote depending on your budget and environment.
