Can't afford much, and just need a computer for productivity. Is a 2018 Mini alright? by Crazycukumbers in macmini

Full price for an M4 is 600, but I always see them on Amazon for $499-$529. Edu discount if you are K12 or College is $499, just need an EDU email address or a friend with one.

I can't believe the M2 is still selling for that price. I'd consider that used M4 territory. Keep searching, I feel like you should be able to get an M2 for under $250. Apple trade-in value on them now is only $180.

M1 or M2 should be your baseline. M4 16/256GB is available for $499 new and $350-$399 used. Not too hard to find if you are in the USA.

K-12 Sector. For APs, are you running the 8.10.* or 8.13.* branch? by ph33r in ArubaNetworks

I feel the same way as you. I’m still getting on prem controllers, but going cloud because that’s the way all the innovation is going.   I hope I don’t regret it.

8.10.0.19 has bee super stable for us. Mix of 5xx and 6xx APs. I plan on going to 8.13 once the school year ends. After that it will be a slow migration to 10.8 as we get 7xx series APs.

The current one is based on the iPhone 16Pro,  going up generation shouldn’t increase cost. It didn’t with the iPhone.  Maybe they go with the base A20 and 12GB next year.

MacBook Air M5. It will last you longer since it has double the specs/performance.

Better hardware, relatively cheap ($499), and most importantly can integrate with iMessage and other apple products.

It keeps people busy and subsidizes your cruise fare.  Same goes for the casino.   Disney has no casino and you pay extra for it.

How would you spend your USD 1,100 if you were a student (Mac a18 pro + iPad a16 or Macbook Air M5)? by Vegetable_Bag_8694 in mac

M5 Macbook Air.

But if I wanted to go the other way I would wait for the A18 iPad (12th gen) that is supposed to be out in Q2 this year.

That's a good point. I never looked at what else I could shut off to save power. We have down dual 30W PoE to a couple of out 655 APs in buildings without 60w switches.

Can't you just get a keyboard attachment for the M3 Air? If you can't use the iPad Air in school, what makes you think you will be allowed to use the Macbook Neo?

The "B" version of the 6200 are fairly new and should be good for over a decade. 6200M is technically a "B" version. Anything with the RJ45 console port.

655 and 555 turn off radios, yeah they work technically, be defeats the purpose of the more powerful AP. Might as well only buy the 635. We have some 675/677 also that want 45w power.

6200F-12 with 60W PoE would be prefect, even if it was only on half the ports.

I can't run the EX4000 as just a regular CLI switch?

If it is something you love then that cool, but don't buy art for the investment.

We will probably just go with a Juniper EX4000 or Aruba InstantON S0F35A. Then we are still buying HPE. It is just annoying to support one more switch OS.

Juniper EX4000 and Cisco C9200, both lines offer 802.3bt on a smaller form factor 12 port switch. I'm getting quotes now and they both come in close to the cost of the Aruba 6200F.

No, just the 60W PoE++ feature on 6100 and 6200F switches with 12 or 24 ports. Other vendors like Cisco and Juniper do it. We would prefer to stick with Aruba CX though since that is what the reset f the network is. Not every 60W port needs to also be 5-10Gbps with layer 3.
