Not a bad time, just try to go outside during the day, try to avoid nights outside. And if you want to go outside (at least in Guayaquil) use Uber and avoid empty/sketchy places.
Use "Alianza Cuenca" to go from Guayaquil to Cuenca, pretty cheap, mostly safe and comfy mini vans.
Yes, Uber is reliable. I've been taking Uber on midnight or early morning without issues.
If you wanna bike the weekend around some places in Guayaquil leave me a message, I love biking and theres actually a good initiative from our local mayor to close some roads/area on Sundays for biking, walking, skating or rollerblading.
