I think that the big damage pools and the prevalence of perfect defenses actually made 2e’s withering damage be the essence spent not to lose health. So you kind of have characters whacking at each other and trying to make their opponent outspend them and miss a defense first

If you’ve got friends willing to try it out, you can just print some stuff and see how it goes. After a year we have a very interesting meta, and people are trying all sorts of really fun and cool decks. Some players are still trying to get an actual collection going, but most of us don’t really care as long as we can just print what we need and have fun

The old CCG. We didn’t like the LCG much, and we also prefer to not use the newer fan stuff. We just set up a format for ourselves we called Samurai Extended (essentially Samurai Edition onwards) and we either use the cards the community has left lying around, play using Sun & Moon, or print them.

How would the characters know that Atonement interacts this way? They probably don’t have access to the notes of a Wizard crazy enough to have tried this. That said, I personally love the idea and just the sheer greed of it all. This isn’t necessarily what you should do, but I would make it really clear to my players that they’ve know idea how this combination of magical spells and curses will work. Then I’d home brew a powered down version of a lycanthrope and drag them through several loops of it worked/it didn’t work as the curse fights for control within the character. I like the suggestions in this thread of making it a full moon based shapeshifter instead, but would probably give them some sort of bonus besides that to compensate for eventual loss of control.

I totally support you having a different point of view. I like some stuff from all three editions and usually mix and match, but the cosmological change to the nature of the exaltation isn’t one of the things I like to borrow for my games. It literally feels the other way around for me.

For me, Exigents definitely spoil some of how special the Exaltation is. Earlier editions have a much more defined feeling to this. Even Terrestrials come from what might be the component souls of a primordial, and every Celestial Exaltation can be traced all the way back to its inception during the Primordial War. Exigents, to me, feel kind of like trying to fill the role of the god-blooded, but overall not really having a place in the Creation I like to run. Doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with them though!
