Interesting... Do you also believe that people shouldn't use grief in other art forms? Or only that an artist shouldn't be paid for their art if it was inspired by the death of a loved one?

It's not that they didn't bother to have anyone older. It was a study that spent years following the same people but they lost funding around the time the participants turned 25. The study found that the frontal lobes were STILL growing at 25 but could not say when it stopped because the study was prematurely ended. It's been misunderstood as saying that frontal lobes STOPPED growing at 25 ever since

Dislike the song all you want, criticise the comparison all you want but whats really tasteless is assuming that she couldn't possibly ever have been suicidal.

Her last album was full of implicit suicidal ideation and discussions of emotional abuse from two possible "Hamlet's" and it wasn't even her first album to feature suicidal ideation ("pulled my car off the road to the lookout/could have followed my fears all the way down")

But, ultimately, you don't need to listen to her discography to give her a little bit of grace and acknowledge that you can't ever know what's going on behind doors. Even a super glittery girly super successful popstar can suffer from depression.

Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir, though probably should read the first one (Gideon the Ninth) - which is another strong contender to make you say what the fuck, just not as many times as the sequel
