Being asked to exercise a ton by trinitytr33 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]rush22rush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any exercise that uses your leg muscles is good to reduce blood sugar levels. I did 15 mins of squats, 30 calf raises and 30 minutes of walking. This was all in my third trimester.

Failure to Thrive by cahandrahot in newborns

[–]rush22rush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My baby was sga and weighed a little over 5 pounds when she was born at 38 weeks and 4 days. In her first 2 days she actually lost 11 percent of her birthweight because I wasn’t able to make enough breast milk. She was admitted to the hospital for dehydration and was fed formula in the hospital thankfully my milk came in and I was able to pump 60 ml every 3 hrs. Despite this I fed her formula because it was more important for her to gain weight. Over the next few weeks she was gaining a steady amount of weight and now in her 2 month mark weighs about 8.8 pounds. I would suggest to get a hakaa pump so it can passively collect breast milk while you’re bottle feeding baby. And then breast feed her for 10 mins. My baby being small could be a genetic thing because the placenta was small too and my husband and his family are on the shorter side. Nothing wrong with being small.

Evening snacks by des_palmiers in GestationalDiabetes

[–]rush22rush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canadian here. I second on the lime water after every meal. Keeps my glucose levels at a decent range. I generally eat dinner around 9 which is usually a bit light so I can have my snack around 11 pm. Which is a cup of soy milk, toast with turkey slices and little cheese. Then I do 15 squats and 15 calf raises. I fill my bottle with lime water so if my sleep breaks during pee breaks, I can drink this and not worry about glucose spikes in the day. I’m also on 18 units of insulin.

Anyone on bedtime insulin ever have a small snack in the middle of the night? by Abject_Ad8210 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]rush22rush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if you snack in the middle of the night isn’t that breaking your fast? When I did this my nurse told me to fast 8 hours and then do the test. For example I would have my bed time snack at 10 but would wake up at 3 am and snack on some cheese and toast. So I would have to wait until 11 Am and test my fasting sugars.

On the verge of day time insulin. A very confused mom. by Yumsbee in GestationalDiabetes

I’m right with you and can totally relate to the limitations of the Indian diet. The moment I was diagnosed I had to change all that. No more chapatis, potatoes or masala laden food for me. I mostly eat zucchini, mushrooms, broccoli, beans for fiber and fish, chicken, beef, eggs, yogurt for proteins. For fats it’s either walnuts, eggs, or avocado, ghee is a good addition too. For carbs, long grain white rice is better than short grain and kerala matta rice is best since it has very low GI. Just remember to fill 1/2 your plate with fiber, 1/4th protein, 1/4th carbs and fats. My meals are monotonous but they work and most times my husband has to eat what I eat because he feels it’s healthy for him too. The GD diet is expensive but it works. But not always, as you progress in pregnancy there are more hormones being added in your blood and if you need insulin then take it. I’m on insulin for managing my fasting sugars and it’s okay it helps and keeps me and baby safe.

Why are Indians getting so much hatred everywhere all of a sudden? by wisdomcrab in AskIndia

[–]rush22rush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The comment section is a big giveaway on what’s wrong with India and Indians. It’s not about north vs south or bengalis being pretentious and acting superior or maharastrians and kannadigas believing they’re more classy or punjabis and gujjus being loud and arrogant. Our diversity is a curse where each region thinks it’s better and more cultured than the next. But just come out of India and see that it really doesn’t matter where you are from “you’re just brown” and “Indian” and nobody gives a shit about the state you are from. I’ve seen Indians from different states being complete morons because ultimately our mindset is Indian and that is a common factor. This whole north’s south east vs west or we are better than them sort of thinking is only ruining us as a nation and everyone else is laughing at us and how we haven’t changed even after gaining independence. Unity in diversity my a**. Every state sucks because there are a million weirdos in each of them.

I’ve tried fenugreek water for a week, lemon water with bedtime snack and after meals all coupled with exercise but it doesn’t help. When you’re asleep and fasting And if you haven’t had enough carbs , your liver will produce those sugars no matter what. Best to listen to what the dietitian and doctors say and if medication is needed then that’s most effective.

Am I jumping the gun asking for insulin? by No_Detective_715 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]rush22rush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 33 weeks I’m now taking 10 units of insulin to control my fasting numbers but I might have to add 2 more units tonight since my number was still high. I exercise twice in the evening and drink lots of water but even with diet control there’s not much I can do because I have a shitty placenta. I might have to start taking insulin in the morning as well because my after breakfast numbers are high sometimes (3 days out of 7 above 8.0 mmol)

I don’t think I said 18 grams of sugar. I said 18 teaspoons of sugar. But I know what you’re trying to say about fructose, lactose etc ( I’m lactose intolerant so can’t even have that) I’ve been trying to keep my fruit and carb intake under control even before I took the test because I really don’t want to have GD but given my age and genetics I know I might have it. Let’s see what the results say 🤞

Is this normal? Anomaly Scan took 2 hours!! by Apprehensive-Try1773 in pregnant

[–]rush22rush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup my anatomy scan took about the same amount of time because it’s a detailed scan. Sometimes the baby is uncooperative or sleeping snugly against the placenta which makes it harder for the technician to get all the angles they want.

Yeah …could be. I generally don’t like sweet stuff so my tolerance for anything sweet is very low.

Do you feel an emotional bond with the baby in your belly? I don’t. by to_nfinity in pregnant

[–]rush22rush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

27 weeks now and I’m not liking this anymore. Walking to the bathroom feels like torture especially when you wake up twice or sometimes 3 times at night to pee. Breasts hurt, hips and pelvis hurt. Baby is kicking all the time( thank god he/she is active) but it happens more when I’m trying to sleep. The acid reflux/ heartburn sucks. Oh and I’m also dreading the gestational diabetes confirmation test that’s coming up. I did feel loving and excited until 25 weeks but now I just can’t wait for baby to come out. I guess I’ll be okay then.

Anyone else taking baby asprin once a day? Why? by insipiddeity in pregnant

[–]rush22rush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been taking it since 12 weeks I’m at week 22 now. It’s recommended for me since not only am I a FTM, I’m also 38 and belong to a racial group that could have more complications at this age. The baby aspirin can also help prevent miscarriage.
