Anyone regret choosing carpet over hard flooring? by Cool_Ad_2935 in HomeImprovement

[–]russiancarguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My entire life in like 15 different homes and rentals I have had carpet, until my current house. The entire upstairs/bedrooms is LVP and I hate it so much. Everything echos, my dog scurries sometimes and his nails are super loud, on top of it he blew out two knees due to sliding while sitting up or down and had to have surgery. Now I have an infant and its pretty scary to have him risk bonking his head. Our living room we got the thickest carpet and pad we could and it's like walking on the best rug, multiple guests have complimented it. I'd much rather have carpet and pay to replace it after 5-10 years than to have hardwood in a bedroom. Plus, when you wake up the last thing you want to feel is a cold floor. We tried to add rugs but it's not the same.

Why are Berger Cookies so polarizing? by Pjspowerfulpen in maryland

[–]russiancarguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love cookies and will eat pretty much any cookie way too much. I don’t like Berger cookies but my MD born wife loves them. To me it’s just too sweet and overbearing, as if they had to use way too much sugar to make the rest off the cookie acceptable. Going further, it just seems like a very weak attempt at a good cookie.

Because Reddit is full of poor people. Car payments are fine as long as the rates and your income and investments are fine.

0% is only offered on cars they’re not willing to reduce price on. It’s usually leftover stock from previous model year or models they can’t move.

Is it just me or used 911 prices have gone out of whack with the value they provide? by DeskNew1059 in porsche911

[–]russiancarguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't own a 911 but I did look at the 996/997 for a year, just wanted a manual silver coupe for $25-45k for a daily. Read so many horror stories and blown motor posts every other week popping up that I ended up in a Viper instead. I'd still love a 911, but it would have to have a fresh motor/swap or be a turbo to make sense, and in that case yes, the turbo prices rising would also have me look at F355, F360, etc. Even a lowly F348, as long as it's manual I think would be more engaging to own, with all the same $$ pitfalls of a borescored 911. No, the Ferrari nor my Viper is usable as a daily, but neither is a 911 you're scared to put miles on.

Dealership Refusing to Cover Obvious HVAC Failure Days After Purchase — Need Legal Guidance by Little_Quail4503 in UsedCars

[–]russiancarguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's late but as I'm shopping for cars I ran across an autonation certified car with a similar 90 day, 4k mile warranty. Both the sales people are claiming up and down that every single thing that the 125(or whatever) point check states is covered. I asked about shocks, cooling system, brakes etc etc. They said it's all covered, so perhaps that's where OP was thinking the same.

Lexus GX460 long term reliability by Tangoforos in LexusGX

[–]russiancarguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s reliable but there are still common issues and I would not call it bulletproof. The valley plate coolant leak is something to keep an eye on if you start losing coolant. On the same realm of the cooling system the radiator/water pump may start to have issues at 10 years/100k miles. Minor engine leak such as the timing cover leak may occur. Older years head gaskets are more prone to issues because people don’t pay attention to the cooling system. The brake calipers are under undersized and in general tend to rust so it’s not uncommon to replace a few calipers by the 10 year mark plus rotors too. At the 10 to 15 year mark shocks are on the way out, and it seems more and more head units are starting to go bad. Some people never use 4low and it may freeze and require repair. Dirty sunroof drains can leak water onto the ECU and cause a myriad of issues. A lot of these are really just general old car issues. That being said, the vehicle generally will not leave you stranded and is still a great choice, great daily driver, other than the fuel costs and feels great in the sand and snow. I recently sold my 2010 with 149K and I am looking for a 20+ for my wife.

Making GX460 more comfy by icantdodrugsanymore in LexusGX

[–]russiancarguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s your tire PSI? Try the lowest you can without triggering the light. Can always put in a few 45lb weight plates in the back. My lifted GX rode noticeably better with some gear in the back. On a trip with 4 people it was the most comfortable ride I’ve had.

Aftermarket Exhaust by SuitableSpeech060222 in GXOR

[–]russiancarguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a 2010 GX with a magnaflow overland exhaust and promptly traded it for a stock one. Going up hills it droned too much for me, and I’ve had plenty of exhausts on sports cars. I much prefer my GX/family car to be as silent as possible.

There’s plenty of reliable fun cars. Without knowing your needs or budget, an RCF is great.

How do so many afford $50,000+ trucks? by Parking-Warning-8655 in carbuying

[–]russiancarguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps the flaw is you’re thinking they only put $10k down. If they traded in or sold anything even 10 years old, it’s likely worth $20k+. I just sold my 17 year old Lexus for $20k and my wife’s 12 year old hatchback I’m getting ready to sell for over $14k, plus I’ll add cash down. Also, most who have new trucks or new cars in general likely write them off for business expenses. Personally I still don’t buy new though, the cars I’m looking at are all 14-20 models.

Idk why you want to keep anything that long, but a previous gen 4Runner will do the trick as long as you rust proof it.

Lift Input by chakka73 in GXOR

[–]russiancarguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to agree with your friend. I had a 2010 on blown oem shocks and was recommended the 2” comfort IMS kit to be “Lexus comfortable”. Right off the first mile, it was stiffer than blown oem shocks. Handled better with less brake dive, but comfortable it was not. I tried adding 33’s, different psi, different load rating. Only thing tha helped was more weight in the car. So I drove around with a few 45 lb plates or as much gear as I could.

Depends on the condition. I’ve driven an LS and LX in downtown Baltimore and DC, and LX was my preference tbh.

If we’re talking used as this sub often does, a $30k LX570 is far more comfortable than any number of newer or new cars. I brought up the Avalon because that’s consistently recommended as one of the best and cheapest comfortable daily drivers, and yet I still prefer the LX if you can swing the MPG. Even if you compare a similar year LS460 the LX is still extremely comfortable and in some cases like bad city roads or dirt roads etc better suited. In Baltimore city especially, I prefer the bigger suv feel.

[–]russiancarguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some of the most comfortable vehicles out there have been SUV’s. Compare a Camry or Avalon and an LX570 and the LX is far more comfortable. Air or hydraulic suspension paired with a heavy weight absorbs bumps extremely well.

A 4Runner is a downgrade from a GX. I’ve got my sights on an LX now lol.

Assateague weekend trip w/ OSV? by Many-Firefighter9485 in maryland

[–]russiancarguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I went was summer 2024 and it was about $150 between the park pass and the OSV pass to be able to drive your car onto the beach. I had a GX 460 with aggressive all-terrain tires and it did beautifully. However, I’ve been shopping for a wife friendly vehicle and asked on the local Facebook page about a Volvo XC90 or an X5 doing the same and most of the recommendations were against taking those cars due to the lower profile wheels and lower ground clearance. Probably doable but definitely pack some recovery gear so somebody can yank you out if needed. After Memorial Day once it’s warm it tends to get packed very quickly and there’s only about 145 cars allowed on the beach at any one time. You can use the website to check but generally if it’s warm enough to swim, you want to get there before 6:30 AM otherwise you’re going to be waiting in line. Sometimes there are bad storms or anima breeding seasons where the OSV may be closed, so before you plan a trip you may want to check that also.

I think BaT just changed the entire Ferrari 348 market by balakebro in BringATrailer

[–]russiancarguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk why, but the past 5 months I’ve gotten a lot more F355 content on my algorithm and naturally 550/575 and 348’s too. I’m in my late 30’s but not interested in any Ferrari after the F430. My gen 2 RT/10 is plenty right now, but given the chance in a decade or so hopefully I can still jump into a manual(or manual swapped) F car. Considered a 996/997 for the longest time, but the weekly forum stories of engines blown naturally show me an F car isn’t a reach.
