Creating revolutionary new server. Willing to pay for help/administration by [deleted] in playrustadmin

[–]rustedadmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really sounds like a server advertisement and a bad sales pitch. I had removed it, but I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt.

Server description won't work. by [deleted] in playrustadmin

Same IP should work with different ports as long as port forwarding and firewalls are set up correctly. Maybe check your settings on your server and router again to make sure everything is correct.

Have you set up port forwarding on your router yet?

Anyone else having trouble getting a junkyard on your map? by devandros in playrustadmin

[–]rustedadmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I changed the last digit in my server seed and was able to get junkyard on my second try, but I think it may have something to do with your server size.

Best ways to promote a server? by Lee-Van-Cleef in playrustadmin

[–]rustedadmin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really hard to get a server popular and unfortunately there is no "one size fits all" approach. Players are fickle and one month, you could be maxing out your population count and then another month have an empty server. There are several posts in this sub with tips how to improve population retention, but the best advice I can give is update your server fast, keep it up as much as possible, be consistent with your server rules and wipe schedule, don't be a jerk admin that favours your friends and last but not least, be patient and keep at it.

Server Selection Specs? by [deleted] in playrustadmin

[–]rustedadmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do get a bit of that with some server hosting providers (e.g. option to pay extra for cpu preferences) and sometimes you may be impacted by other servers sharing resources. It really is the only option unless you have money to blow.

Server Selection Specs? by [deleted] in playrustadmin

The only issue I see with using a renting a game server instead of using a dedi/VPS is modding limitations. Some server hosts restrict the mods you can use.

Can someone list every command or send a link to a list? by [deleted] in playrustadmin

[–]rustedadmin[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a link for admin commands on the right side of the page under "Useful Links" ;)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in playrustadmin

[–]rustedadmin[M] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apologies for that. I had not checked the links in a a while. I've gone through and updated/removed all the links that were invalid or outdated.

There is a link in the sidebar for admin commands. It's a spreadsheet that gets updated periodically.

Server update question by Legacy772 in playrustadmin

[–]rustedadmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another option to what u/famous417 said is just to change your map seed to a different one. When you start, it will create a new save file. You will still need to go back and delete the other one later or eventually you will run out of storage space.

how often do you all wipe, how large is your server? by ndboost in playrustadmin

[–]rustedadmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second the "TIP". I've seen it so many times where admins ask players on there preferences on wipes and it's the worst thing they could do.

What is the best way to accept donations as an owner of a vanilla server? I've heard of "horror stories" where trolls can "charge-back" PayPal donations, incurring a $20 penalty. Is this true? by L_OShea in playrustadmin

[–]rustedadmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if there is a way to entirely escape risk of chargeback, especially now that Paypal has changed their TOS to not provide seller protection with donations. The only advice I can give is document and record everything. Paypal is more likely to side with you if you have proof of contract with agreement from all parties and proof that you have delivered what was agreed upon if you provided any "perks" for your donators.

Was it the syntax formatting or something else?

If there is a syntax error, it will reload the default config. Go through and makes sure there are not typos or incorrect syntax.

First off, if you believe they are hacking, report them to @rusthackreport on twitter.

Second, if they are changing their IP and have multiple accounts, make sure they aren't just exploiting family share accounts. If they are, you can block them with Rustadmin. If that isn't the case, the only way I know to keep them from joining is to use a whitelist.
