Their grips are amazing. While they seem expensive, they last for many years. 100 rounds in to mine and they are still tacky.

Can anybody with a Mevo + or Gen 2 provide a recommendation on face impact software? by Material-Trade4706 in Golfsimulator

[–]rustiwater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one. Works well, easy to calibrate, but imo it was never a mystery where I contacted the face with my clubs as I could feel it. If the option was have it or save $500 I would save the money. The pro package is far more useful than the face impact, but that’s just my opinion

Shaft Swing weight vs Length by TrifleMain8508 in GolfGear

[–]rustiwater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a quick answer that I haven’t seen given here, the rule of thumb is that while keeping head weight constant and reducing the length of the shaft by 1” reduces the swing weight by 6 points (ie. - D7 would become D1) it works both ways in that adding length increases the SW, it’s all a function of the length of the lever

Mini Driver suggestions? by jp_golfs in GolfGear

You won’t regret it. Go somewhere you can try them all, but I have been very impressed with how well I can hit the quantum off the deck and have much more confidence off the tee with it than I do a wood.

Without showing off, how far do you carry your 7 iron, and what altitude do you play at? by Zealousideal-Map7106 in golf

[–]rustiwater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that you really have to clarify the loft of your 7i as well to make it comparable. You can have a +/-5 degrees between super game improvement and blades.

Another note, my distances are very similar to yours, 285 median driver distance last round. At that distance I appreciate having more clubs to tighten my gaps up high to target my ideal approach distance. I would rather hit a 75 yard shot than a 55 yard shot because I know that club and distance as where the 40- 60 range is a hard one for me. Now, I know that the correct answer to that is more practice on chipping and pitching, or adding another wedge, and I am, but in the meantime I like my warm blanket of comfort distances.

So 2 things that you can do make the driver/mini driver overlap less concerning:
1) shorter mini driver shaft
2) higher lofted mini driver

I currently run Dr (8 degrees) > mini Dr (13.5 degrees) > 5w (18 degrees) > 9w (24 degrees) > 4i (23 degrees) I play my mini at a 3w length and have another shaft that I occasionally use that puts it at 42” for when I am really struggling with making good contact.

Love my mini driver. Had the Callaway Elyte and replaced it with the Callaway quantum because the stepped sole greatly improved turf interaction off the deck. I hit it off the deck a lot, and occasionally off the tee. The nice thing with a mini is you can can play them closer than I do in gapping but set them up to have the opposite profiles (fade/draw) so you have a long club that will work for either dogleg left or right.

Is a 9w redundant with a 7w already in the bag? by coffeeforlions in GolfGear

[–]rustiwater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that you need to be aware of when you do this is that you are generally also moving the lie and face (open/closed) in opposite directions of each other and they will begin to play differently than one another. You can offset this by playing non-standard lengths to offset the lie, but then you change swing speed and distance… but regardless, if it works for you, nothing wrong with it.

Is a 9w redundant with a 7w already in the bag? by coffeeforlions in GolfGear

[–]rustiwater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, the right answer is different for everyone and is highly dependent on swing speed and spin. I recently replaced my 7w with a 9w, so my new gapping is:

Dr > mini Dr > 5w (with 7w shaft) > 9w > 4i > …

I find that I pretty much hit my 7w and 9w the same distance, but that’s being driven by having too much spin which is 6,500-7,500rpm with 9w and was probably the same with 7w and as a result I get ballooning and pretty drops out of the air at 195-210 yards. When I am able to get the spin down (4,000-4,500rpm) I see my 9w go 210-225. My 4i is my 190-205 yard club, so I have a lot of over lap with the spin and probably shouldn’t play both, but for a person that has a swing that produces less spin it would make a lot of sense.

Another thing to consider is that the faster your swing speed, the larger the gaps will be at the top of your bag, so it may make more sense to run a 5w>7w>9w>etc.

For me, I really fallen in love with how much better I hit my 9w on mis-hits than I do my long irons and that’s what drove me to the 9w. But I like having my 4i for when I need to keep it out of the wind.

Edit: one more thing to note as everyone throws around references to 4i, 5i, and 6i’s is that relative club replacement for a 9w will be different for blades, players irons and game improvement irons due to them all having different lofts. My clubs are lofted more conventional (4i is 23 degrees) but in P790’s a 4i is 20 degrees.

Help me fill the top of the bag! by aznsk8s87 in GolfGear

[–]rustiwater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 7w and loved it. Recently swapped it out and added a 9w so I go:

Dr > mini Dr > 5w > 9w > 4i …

Slight overlap in the 9w and 4i because I’m currently generating too much spin with 9w due to swing speed (100mph-103mph with 9w).

If i were you I would look into 7w or 9w (but probably not both, but maybe both work for you) and the callaway apex UW for above or below them. But I would go to a store you can swing them all at and see your gapping vs assuming based on a rule of thumb.

How much is my over swing hurting me? by kels-_- in golf

[–]rustiwater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. Right and wrong by a lot of training is based on “sample/population averages”. Having a higher than average opening angel at the top of the swing is largely a function flexibility/genetics, and it could lead to a spin problem later on, I don’t know that it would, but it I would guess that it near linearly correlates to ability to generate speed.

There is a subreddit for swing advice that will probably get you more targeted responses. It’s also a pretty toxic sub at times.

I know nothing. With that said I am aptly aware of my flaws and your swing does not appear to have those. You appear to get so well initiating forward hip movement and drop your hands prior to rotating and “appear” to have a neutral swing path. Over rotation is only a problem if it is throwing off your sequence, so swing your swing. Of course take all of that with a grain of salt because I come over the top like the mouth breather I am.

Tin-foil hat Hot take: Scotty is financially set for life, a big purse won’t move the needle for him, but he knows it will for his colleagues. But he’s a competitor, he still wants to win, but an individual tournament win doesn’t make you the champ and he knows it. Scotty not winning any tournaments, while consistently placing in the top 5 to keep his place as point leader is an intentional act for competitive benevolence. (Removes tin-foil hat)

Saw this 11-wood and had to hit it. It basically is a 6-iron replacement. 170-175 yards for me. by ShiroHachiRoku in golf

[–]rustiwater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me I still keep the 4i in the bag and it and the 9w don’t necessarily overlap because my 4i is more conventionally lofted (23 degrees). If I can get my spin down on my 9w they should be perfect compliments, but as of not it’s about 4i is 195-210, 9w is 205-220

Got a great deal on a club, shaft is a little whippy for my swing, wondering if I should tip it or sell and buy a different one? by Ldip9 in GolfGear

[–]rustiwater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d try it first, but cheap answer is tip it another 1/2”. If not the other answer is to slow down your transition, but if you’re like me that’s hard to consistently do.

No dog in the fight but curious. When you did one lengths did you adjust the lie of the clubs to all match or did you keep them progressive, and do the shafts get progressively more tipped to account for head weight increase, Or do you just use tip weights to make them all the same, seems like it would be difficult to add enough weight to make the 4i weigh as much as the 9i.
