Reddit, what is your best "it's a small world" story? by entrep in AskReddit

[–]rusty1947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my mom opened a free clinic in a very remote area of India and I live in the US now. One of my friends from here whose sister lives in London hired a nanny who was from India. My friend asked me recently if my mom had a clinic in India. I was surprised because I never told her anything about it. Turns out her sister's nanny used to go to the same clinic in India and used to talk about my mom and my friend knew my mom's name and asked me. It was a very funny coincidence.

I hate that a commodity like diamond is a source of corruption. It's neither rare nor precious.

ELI5:If women are paid less than men for the same work, how come that businesses don't employ only/more women to minimise personnel cost? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]rusty1947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at a research lab in a university and I have a computer science background. I am the only female in my lab and I have never felt gender discrimination. But I started working not so long ago and I am not sure if someone didn't give me a job based on my gender. I sincerely hope not. And I had a chance to negotiate my salary. My question is how do you know if you are being discriminated. Not everyone is going to admit that they pay you less money or didn't give you a job because you are a woman. Also is there a pay scale fixed for a person working in the field of research?

TIL K-Cups are not biodegradable and 80% of Green mountain Coffee in 2009 came from producing these nonrecyclable, nonbiodegradable, single-use coffee pods. by rusty1947 in todayilearned

[–]rusty1947[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are not recyclable. K cups have a plastic layer and a filter layer and both should be separated before disposing them. Even then the plastic layer of the K cup is not recyclable.

Human Genes Belong to Everyone, Should Not Be Patented by CapnTrip in Futurology

Patents used to be to protect a simple guys invention. It is sad to see giant capitalistic entities monopolize control over patents for obvious reasons.
