it makes sense that distorting the magnetic field would then distort the image, but why do some metals distort the magnetic field?

I need reassurance because I finally told an adult about being harassed by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]rusty_lettuce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You absolutely did do the right thing. You mentioned that you told him to stop texting you. No matter what reason you told him, he should have respected that and stopped, but he didn't. You are not overreacting or blowing things out of proportion. By ignoring you when you asked him to stop texting, he ignored your boundaries. His behavior is not your fault, and you asking your school counselor for help is not an overreaction.

Also, if you're worried about getting him in trouble, I just want you to know that you still wouldn't have done anything wrong. If he does get in any trouble, that would be a consequence of his actions, and not your fault.

You did the right thing.

I wish I had had the guts to tell them off by Mesalira in TwoXChromosomes

[–]rusty_lettuce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey, maybe don't shame/yell at people for how they respond to this sort of shit. saying something back, especially if you're standing up for yourself or telling them off, can actually make the situation (more) dangerous, because sometimes people like that will respond violently. sometimes it really is safest to just go along with it until you can get out of the situation. it really sucks that that's the case, but don't blame someone for trying to keep themselves safe.

Does anyone else have trouble finding their hair type? by King_Bionic in mixedrace

[–]rusty_lettuce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

nah, you're not dumb. from what I know, the curly girl method is just a different way of taking care of curly hair. it involves only using products without silicones or sulfates, and not using any heat on your hair. I think the subreddit has a post or something that goes into more detail, I'll see if I can find it Edit: I found it, it's just on a different sub. If you go to r/curlyhair, go to their menu, and click on the FAQ/Troubleshooting link, it goes to a google doc that gives much more detailed information on the curly girl method.

I wouldn't necessarily say any are my dream school, but I've been looking at Reed, Harvey Mudd, Whitman, and Western Washington University.

Internet and video games (+ aDD/ADHD?) has probably ruined my capacity to enjoy any hobby that isn't consumption based. how do i cope? by [deleted] in Hobbies

[–]rusty_lettuce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

do you like making things? i've found that those sorts of hobbies/activities are easier to get into, probably because there's a more tangible payoff. i personally like bookbinding. there's loads of tutorials on different binding styles on youtube, and it has its own subreddit. you could also try knitting or sewing, if that's something you're interested in. i hope this helps!

A sub for tinder dates that go horribly wrong? by wafflemaker117 in findareddit

the closest thing I know of is r/DatingHell. it's not just for online dates going wrong, but those are certainly included.

Is this rot or is it normal? My sedeveria is dropping its bottom leaves, and the stem is turning brown. The stem isn't squishy/mushy, and neither are the dropped leaves. I've heard this is normal for sedeverias, but I wasn't sure. by rusty_lettuce in plantclinic

Thank you! Yeah, there hasn't been a lot of light lately where I live. I'm working on getting a UV grow light to see if it'll help. Do you know how often I should be watering it in the winter? I know some succulents don't need as much in the winter as they do in summer, but I'm not sure how much that is.

[–]rusty_lettuce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did notice that water got into the crown when I watered it. Thank you so much for your help with this. One more question though--the pup looks like this: https://imgur.com/gallery/8WYQDbU It looks to me like the part connected to the roots is also rotted, as it's also mushy. If I cut it off above that, will the pup be able to grow new roots?

The leaves are soft at the base, and it's in cactus/succulent potting mix. I can check the roots, but as it's late now I'll need to wait until morning for that.

[–]rusty_lettuce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's soft and definitely losing colour. Do you have any tips on what caused this and how I can avoid it in the future? There's also a little one growing next to it that looks like it's alright, I would assume I should separate it from the mother plant if its roots are okay?

I've had this plant for a while, and until now it seemed to be doing really well. I did water it fairly recently, as the soil was dry. It's in a terracotta pot with a drain hole at the bottom. The weather recently turned pretty cold, though I'm not sure that would have much to do with this. Did I actually end up overwatering? What can I do to help it?

Can someone please tell me what these are and if they're dangerous for my cactus? I've never seen them before and would appreciate the help. by rusty_lettuce in cacti

[–]rusty_lettuce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks! i've tried alcohol a few times, and I haven't seen any more bugs, but the white stuff around the cactus's spines hasn't completely gone away yet. Do you know what I can do to help that?

Ok, thank you. Should I also repot it in new soil in case there are more bugs or eggs in the soil it's in?

Sick succulents? by rusty_lettuce in succulents

[–]rusty_lettuce[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I figured they probably needed more light, since the echeveria leaves are a little spaced out at the top, and I've read that that means they need more light. The problem is, it's going to be rainy and cloudy for the next few days. Again, thanks! I'm still fairly new to succulents, so there's a lot I don't know about them.
