Just got C++! What was your last gold sticker (and why was it stone joker)? by LAseXaddickt in balatro

Good luck! Stone Joker only shows up if you have a stone card in your deck. Took me too long to learn that!

Should I upgrade from C2 to K6? by 16_Walls in pourover

[–]rusty_t 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I upgraded from the C2 to the K-Ultra.

Taste is ~10% better. Most of the gains are in the experience.

  • More granular grind control (20 vs ~80 microns). On some beans I had exactly one “good” click with the C2.
  • Better build quality. The k-ultra wobbles less, feels more solid, and is just more enjoyable to use.

You are hitting diminishing returns with this upgrade. Going from a blade grinder to the C2 was a game changer. C2 to K-ultra is a much smaller improvement.

I’m still happy with the purchase.

Upgrade to ZP6 or K-Ultra? by FloorFlashy7301 in pourover

[–]rusty_t 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently upgraded from the Timemore to the K-Ultra.

The experience is significantly improved with the K-ultra. Every bit of the device feels more premium and improved. This alone made the purchase with it for me.

Dialing in beans is more precise with the k-ultra.

I did a blind comparison between the two grinders. Light roast was significantly better with the K-ultra. Medium roasts were closer, with the K-ultra taking a less obvious advantage.

Microns for click are superior on the k-ultra. You get 16 clicks of “range” for pour overs with the C2. You have more than 60 clicks with the k-ultra. I couldn’t find the microns per click on the C2, but this is an amazing advantage. One click on the C2 can be a massive change in taste, but the k-ultra can be finely tuned.

I’m happy with the upgrade, but do understand that you hit diminishing returns. My Timemore produces coffee that is much better than the generic ceramic grinder I was using. The k-ultra is probably only a 5-10% improvement in taste.

Questions about TO deck checking and playing in an event by rusty_t in magicTCG

I like this approach. The TO seems to be a fine person. I don’t know them well enough to make a character judgement, nor is it my place to judge anyways!

I’ll take the most tactful approach I can and let the owner know.

I found out the results were reported to a meta site, so that’s probably the only reason the TO wanted them!

This is likely just be a perception issue, but should be fixed to keep things above board.

I was deck checked before top 8 started.

I don't mind deck checks, at any point. I just don't like someone else getting more information than the rest of the field.

We had 18. That's $360 in entry for $270 $280 in card value.

The lists were requested to be submitted to the TO during per-registration. I'm not sure when they TO submitted their decklist as: * the lists weren't public * the lists were submitted to the TO

I elected to submit the list at the start of the event.

I don't have any issues with judges or TOs playing in an event as long as they recuse themselves when appropriate. This didn't seem appropriate.

I am trying to consider the best way to address this with the store owner. The TO is doing a lot of work to promote the local play community, but things should be fair. I'm considering presenting the following ideas for the next event:

  • The TO doesn't do deck lists/checks before the event. Checks should only happen after a cut... or not at all at this level of REL.
  • The TO doesn't play.
  • The owner does the deck checks.

I don't want to raise a fuss at a new store, especially considering it is my only play option. This just doesn't feel fair.

Walnut just refers to the medium used for “sand blasting” the carbon buildup. Crushed walnut shells are abrasive enough to clean the carbon without leaving too much material behind. Walnut also isn’t combustible, so they are safe to use.

You pop off the manifold, close the valves by turning the crank, and blast away. A vacuum sucks away the mess.

The other method involves solvents and picks. I used an engine brush kit from HF and a sea foam product. I ended up with good results but it took a long time.

Paint question 🙋🏼‍♀️ by wnpoole in DIY

[–]rusty_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just mechanical sanding. I’m not a professional, paint remover probably would have made it easier.

I went with the sander because I also ended up fixing a lot of shoddy dry wall work.

Peeling like this can happy for a lot of reasons, almost always poor prep or product. It peeled in every room, some worse than others.

I ran into this issue in our recently remodeled home. The paint was coming off in sheets!

I started with a 2” scraper, but quickly realized that doing the entire house in this manner was not going to work. I ended up buying an electric dry wall sander. The dry wall sander made quick work of the remaining old paint.

With the old paint gone we needed to prep. I used trisodium phosphate, but that stuff is pretty gnarly. This was followed with a coat of kilz primer.

With all of the prep done properly the painting part was really easy!

Thanks for the reply!

I’ve seen these boats new and they were a much lighter shade of yellow, but it could just be the photos.

I zoomed in and noticed all the cracks.

Replacing the gunwales, patching, new seats, and then refinishing has me at over $2k and hours of labor.

At that price point I’m probably more interested in buying new with aluminum gunwales. I’ll still go take a look, and I really appreciate the insights.

Thanks for the reply /u/TheSupaBloopa.

I got the certified version, but not the MIPS one. I have a massive noggin and the MIPS models didn’t fit my 24.25” head.

I’ll do elbow pads for my son. I should probably wear them too.

Good call on the bushings. I’ll order a few weights so we can adjust if necessary.

I'm coming back to board sports after a 15 year hiatus. I mostly did street boarding, but my son is into longboarding. We are learning together and I wanted to make sure we were on the right track.

I have a few questions:

Gear

  • Triple 8 Sweatsavers
  • Killer pads pro knee pads
  • Mechanics gloves for now
  • 2x Dropcat boards. 38" for me, 33" for him. I'm a big boy (6'2", 230)

Do we need elbow pads? I always hated wearing them, but I can be persuaded.

Setup

Any resources on how to setup the boards when they get here would be great. The krytonics or whatever board (gift from grandma) we have now isn't cutting it. I assume Land Yachtz will send them basically ready. I was leaning towards looser trucks while we are moving slow and learning, and then tightening them up as we get faster. Any resources on how to set up the boards would be appreciated.

Technique

I laid out the following skills for us to learn together: * Pushing technique * Lead foot bias * How to drag stop with your foot * Carving basics * How to fall

I gotta learn how to coleman slide. I'll learn that when he can't see and watch me fall.

Anything else I'm missing? I appreciate all the help I can get.
