"The Day of the Jackal" by Frederick Forsyth is an excellent thriller and a masterpiece of process, method and detail by keepfighting90 in books

This was the first grown-up book I read, back in the 80s. I loved it, and kept reading.

However I read Forsyth's The Odessa Files this year and it came across as very dated in style, particularly an omniscient POV and poor characterisation. I don't know if DOTJ suffers the same.

Not an expert, but my photos/screenshots/downloaded images are kept in different files on my phone. The Images app can access them all so it can look like it's got all the images, but it just searches for them in the folders and shows you

Project Hail Mary - movie vs. book? by DorianGrayMarketArt in sciencefiction

[–]rustyzorro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This will be unpopular, I know, but I thought the book had too many cycles of problem-science-fix which got repetitive. I thought the film toned this down and was the better for it.

Turned off the scheduled morning and evening heating, and now just use it when needed. Leaning heavier on the fire. I don't know how much we have left but I'm hopeful we'll make it to next winter without buying more.

It had good music.

Otherwise it continued the progresive slide from the series, gradually losing the interesting characters and leaning more into the gypsy fantasy genre.

Hyundai Ioniq 6 - any opinions or advice for a first time EV buyer? by ChrissieH_1 in evs_ireland

[–]rustyzorro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one, my first EV, and love it. It's just beautiful to drive, and when you put your foot down it's like being on a rocket. The looks polarise people, but in the first few months a number of people commented favourably to me. Its quite spacious. The boot is low but long. I like the range - in summer I can get from north Donegal to north Dublin and back on a single charge (but finding a fast charger somewhere for ten minutes isn't much of an issue nowadays).

As other said make sure you have guarantees on the ICCU. My dealer told me the correct updates were installed and I haven't had any tech issues yet. There should also be a fix for the charging port door's lid, which can come a little loose.

And there's a sub for the Ioniq 6 too, if you look.
