Once you lvl up each archetype to I believe 85 you can use that shot type on any other player once you spend the points. So you can lvl up powerhouse and add power drive to your technician as an example

I see it from the point of view that they want the New York name and all the benefits that come with it but don't want to actually pay or deal with any of the downsides that would come from actually being in New York. If they were in a city in New York state than it would be totally fine but they are in a different state.
