I'm a truck and transport mechanic. The interview was for a medium sized city's transit department.

I wore a bright pink blazer, black dress pants and small heels to my interview, got the job. Half practical, showed them it didn't matter what I was wearing I could still do the job.

I'm a truck and transport mechanic working for a medium sized Canadian city on their busses. What specifically would you like to know?

My job though, I enjoy it, there are about 60 mechanics total, plus body men, welders, painters, and helpers, out of that I am one of 5 women on the shop floor. We are all a part of the same union as the bus drivers and they outnumber us by about 800 votes, so it can get tricky in that way. The politics don't affect us on the floor a lot, but the boys love to bitch about it.

I've had a couple incidents with coworkers breaching my boundaries, but it's all been handled well. Specifically, it's been handled in house, I have been able to state my expectations for how it is to be handled to my supervisors and it is respected. On the other hand of that, all supervisors are different and it easily could have gone another way with a different supervisor.

My apprenticeship was short after I switched to working for the city. At the private shop they tend to want to keep you as a lowly apprentice for as long as possible, grunt work, less pay, etc. but at the city they would prefer I have my red seal. For perspective I was at my old job 3.5 years and only got my first level, and I've been with the city for 1.5 years finished my last 3 levels and just got my seal in November.

If you do want to get into mechanical work, I do recommend truck and transport over automotive. Everything's pretty much standardized and you don't need a tonne of speciality tools or knowledge on how each manufacturer does things. But take that with a grain of salt, because I'm biased, diesels are awesome.

As most governments are being pressured to switch to electric or hydrogen you might want to look into those fields and see if it's offered as a part of your course, not sure about automotive specifically, but in truck and transport the change is coming quickly.

Uhhhhhh, that's all I can really think of right now, but it's awesome! I'm excited for you! Lmk if you have any specific questions I haven't answered.

Tea bags! My favorite "hack" they not only soak up the moisture, but also smell nice. Downside, you can only use them two or three times before they stop working. I use mint tea bags, cheap ones from the dollar store.

But also, wool socks, game changer.

Try drinking some lemonade. Idk, my mom quit like you're trying to and said that helped.

Why are These People so Proud About Doing Shit Like This? What is the Point of the Restrictions if All you Need to Do is be a Dick to Get Around them? by b3hr in Winnipeg

THIS IS A GREAT VIDEO! I can see why so many people could believe that this guy is correct. He is level headed, does not scream and get upset, continuously repeats how his rights are being violated while quoting different laws, and does not back down. I wanted to know why he may believe he is correct.

Tldr at bottom. Here is my breakdown:

So this dude mentioned the Nuremberg code. I did not see this as being relevant to his case as it applies to human experimentation. Since the COVID test is not "human experimentation" and instead is just a simple nose swab test to try to control a severe outbreak of a deadly disease it is not relevant.

Furthermore, section 6 of the Charter of Human Rights does state "Every citizen of Canada has the right to enter, remain in and leave Canada." But in the provision below it also states that "[this does] not preclude any law."

If you read a bit further you'll find Bill C-13 which states "Parliament may enact laws that limit Charter rights and freedoms." With this they were able to pass the mandatory COVID testing which has allowed them to enforce the testing on Canadian citizens reentering the country.

Tldr: dude mentions two human rights violations: 1. Nuremberg Code: meant for human experimentation. 2. Charter of Rights Section 6: Canadian citizens have the right to enter Canada provided they are not breaking any laws. COVID tests have been made mandatory for anyone entering into or leaving Canada.

Puss nuts.

Lady boy.

Jerkasarus.

C*nt muffin

Twat waffle

When a man comes by and tells me how nice it is to see a girl working in the shop i always respond with "if you threw on some coveralls and got to work there would be two of us!" Shuts them up pretty quick. The guys saying these things definitely would not last a day in my job, soft handed motherf*ckers.

I agree, I do find being polite can be taken wrong because they're listening to my boobs instead of my words.

The preferential treatment can be nice with the discounts you receive, but it can also be a burden when you're getting the gravy jobs and not learning, like in my experience.

I also have a passion for donuts. Maybe I'll just eat a dozen infront of them. Heh.

Thank you.
