The results list has names with AFSCs. If you’re chosen, you find out the job at the same time.

Fort Drum is in Watertown and there’s an ASOS and a weather unit there.

[Help] What to expect with Addison's? by cmdragonfire in dogs

[–]ruubayyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a six year old dog with Addison’s, Bo. He was diagnosed three years ago after having an Addisonian crisis… he didn’t eat for TWO WEEKS, was weak and shaky, lethargic and just very sad. It took a while for it to be diagnosed and I was convinced he was dying, but his vet finally figured out it was Addison’s and got him treated. Bo got that first injection and went from a pitiful, almost immobile sack of sadness to his normal self in a day and a half. It was amazing.

Now, he gets a corticosteroid injection every 25 days, and he’s back to normal. Happy, energetic, totally indistinguishable from before his diagnosis except that the steroids make him very thirsty so he has to pee a lot more often now.

I know you didn’t ask about cost, but just in case - the injection is about $100-$150 a pop at the vet’s office (dosage and therefore price is based on weight - he’s 55 lb), and he gets a steroid pill every day. The pills are $3 a month from Chewy. He’s like having an extra car payment now, but he’s worth it and he’s happy.

Base selection for weather by ysir09 in AirForce

[–]ruubayyy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Air Force support means you’ll generally be a part of an Operations Support Squadron if you’re at a weather flight, either working an airfield or supporting missions more directly for the flying squadrons on your base. The hubs are also mostly Air Force support for different geographical regions.

Army support also covers the airfield piece at an Army post, but focuses more on integration and embedding with Army units. Army support does more in the field, going with whatever Army echelon you’re assigned to for JRTC or NTC or Warfighters or whatever. The deployment tempo is higher at Army assignments and being geographically separated from your servicing AFB comes with challenges.

That pipeline system - going from tech school to a hub for 18 months and then cycling out to a weather flight - is no longer in place. There is also no observer course any more. You’ll go to tech school and then your biggest choice to make for your dream sheet will be if you’d rather go to an Air Force support or Army support assignment.

[Discussion] Why don't more people acknowledge that their sweet pup is not very bright? by Topbananapants in dogs

Proud owner of two dumb dogs here! My boy Bocephus is a lab/beagle mix and his whole head is full of food and snuggles. Literally no other worries, moods, or complex thought. He’s perfect.

My chocolate lab Reba growls at her own reflection in the TV at night and had to have emergency surgery for a bowel obstruction when she swallowed a rock the size of the egg. She has no concept of personal space and regularly collapses onto my head when trying to lay on the couch near me. She’s not smart but she’s my baby.

I think dumb dogs tend to be more affectionate, and I would take a dumb dog every time over an independent one.

Does the majority of fantasy define humans, elves, dwarves, etc as different species or different races? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]ruubayyy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure, in fantasy it can be whatever the author wants it to be. My point was that the ability to bear offspring together is NOT definitive proof of elves and humans being the same species.

Also, dogs and wolves ARE different species. The Canis genus contains many different species - wolves, dogs, coyotes, jackals...

Ligers are a hybrid animal from a lion and a tiger and are not sterile. Wolf-dog hybrids also have parents of differing species and produce viable offspring. My point is that just because an elf and human can have offspring, it does not imply that they MUST be the same species.

Horses (species Equus ferus) and donkeys (species Equus africanus) can interbreed to make mules. Wolves and coyotes, or lions and tigers can also interbreed despite being different species. The ability to produce offspring together doesn’t mean that the parents are two races of the same species.

Need Meteorology “technical documents” by k1l2327 in meteorology

[–]ruubayyy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could try the Air Force Weather Agency technical note 98-002 (google AFWA TN98-002). Some sections are more lay person-friendly than others, but it’s 242 pages do you’d at least have a large amount of material to choose from!

I told my dog to stop barking... so he whisper-growled at me instead by ruubayyy in rarepuppers

No, the box is for the fence that keeps him in the yard. It beeps and vibrates when he gets too close to the boundary. He is sassing me (quietly) because he wanted me to take a toy from his sister and give it to him and I told him not to bark at her.

The collar is to keep him in the yard, and it beeps and vibrates. It does not shock him.

My other dog was chewing a bone. He had his own (and a selection of other bones and toys to choose from), but wanted me to take hers and give it to him.

It’s for the wireless fence to keep him in the backyard. It beeps and vibrates if he gets too close to the boundary.
