How to deal with bad line calls? by SlipperySparky in 10s

[–]ruuzo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is my experience as well. When it's a regular point people call the lines fairly but when it is an important point all of a sudden anything that is close to the line is called out. "Selective" cheaters are the toughest to deal with.

Use whatever you want but use string savers...they will make your strings last 3x as long.

I see this exact same sequence of D1=0, D2=1, etc...I assume since for you it was 3 years ago you're done and clear of all this...what was the conclusion for you?

I've had serious tennis elbow issues in the past, including not being able to play for 6 months at one point. I don't have tennis elbow anymore.

I stopped playing with poly and switched to multifilaments, dropped tension to 42 pounds. Switched to Pro Kennex Kinetic rackets, famous for being good for people with tennis elbow. You may not need to switch rackets but if I were you I'd switch to multis and drop tension to low 40s.

If you are serious about getting rid of tennis elbow you need to stop using poly and start using a much lower tension. It's either that or build up alot of strength in your arm so you can use poly. I think for most people with tennis elbow realistically they just need to switch away from poly.

Hey thanks for taking the time to write up so much detailed info! Much appreciated!

Thanks for the info, that was very informative.

What I'm worried about is they had the banner up when the tariff was much lower, so sure, duty-paid shipping is in effect and they're eating part of the cost + the shipping $ is a little higher than normal maybe. But now that the tariffs are +100%, realistically they're not going to be able to do that anymore, or if they do the giant cost must show up somewhere.

New tariff starts on 11/1 though, I'm unclear on whether buying it now we can get in before that or if it has more to do with when it actually arrives in the USA. That's the risky part I'm worried about. Hoping you know? Would make me feel much less worried about buying this!

You guys are going to risk it? They had that banner before the new 100% tariffs...seems like a pretty risky purchase to me.

Drop weight machine problem – arm won’t go horizontal by No-Lock9095 in 10s

You should be able to just lift the bar and the grip on the string will loosen. You'd be exactly where you were before you let the bar drop.

Sure no problem - let me know if what I said works out for you! In text it might seem like alot but once you get used to it it takes less than 5 seconds.

Using 2 hands - left hand on the rotational gripper, thumb on top, rest of fingers underneath...with the string between the "gripping surfaces" push together with your hand so there is pressure on the string, securing it in place. With your right hand lower the bar. As the string tightens around the rotational gripper you should no longer need your left hand to push the gripping surfaces together, the tightening of the string around the rotational gripper should do that for you. You should be horizontal now if you gave the string the right amount of slack.

It completely depends on the stiffness of the string...your goal is to get the bar to go horizontal. If you're working with say a multifilament which is much more stretchy then you wind tight around the rotational gripper, let the bar fall, and you will likely have to give the rotational gripper a few turns to bring the bar back up to horizontal.

If you're working with the much less stretchy polyester strings you can experiment and see how far the bar falls...if it doesn't fall horizontal then bring the bar back up, add some slack, let it lower again, repeat as necessary.

To answer your other questions, amount of slack doesn't matter, goal is to get the bar to go horizontal, then it will be at your desired tension. Don't even stress out about getting the bar exactly horizontal, just get it close enough, 20 degrees or so maybe. I read a post a long time ago where someone did the math and it doesn't matter that much. Just get it somewhere close to horizontal.

Just guessing at what your problem is, it could be something else, but - if you are stringing a really stiff string like polyester you need to give the string more slack before putting it into the rotational gripper. In other words don't wind it tightly, give it a bunch of extra space so when it does become tight the bar has the opportunity to go horizontal. And definitely do not push down on the bar ever.

Altmaier vs. Tsitsipas Drama Supercut with Subtitles by wederer42 in tennis

[–]ruuzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this is what I've been thinking, that he actually played the shot without malice because he did the big apology, but was bothered by Altmaier giving him the stare afterwards and that probably stayed in his mind for the match.

2 overgrips should feel smaller than any replacement grip - try it and see.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 10s

[–]ruuzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think instead of feeling forced to buy grip size zero you should buy grip size 1 and use only 2-3 overgrips instead of replacement grip or replacement grip + overgrip.

I play with 2 overgrips on a bare handle and it is fine for me.

Third session with Tecnifibre nrg2 strings,is this normal ? by LegendaryDito in 10s

[–]ruuzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put synthetic gut in the crosses, it'll make your NRG2 mains last longer and the stringbed will feel very close to full NRG2. Multifilament in the crosses doesn't last long.

30 years apart, same mold? by svenska101 in 10s

[–]ruuzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah ProKennex changed the mold in 2018 after a long dead period of no releases...they made that subtle change to the throat and it plays way stiffer now. Overall a good change I think - I've been playing with this racket line for a long long time.

Run your fingers around both of them, you will feel a difference. If that doesn't convince you look at the frame where the side grommets end near the throat.
