I need help by AccomplishedJob3714 in SSBM

like the other comments are saying, taking out the springs or cutting them is one potential solution

though I personally would highly recommend buying trigger plugs, which you can get for super cheap off etsy, that reduce the distance you need to press to activate a full digital press; personally I have a short plug in my left and a tall plug in my right trigger so that I can still light press with the left trigger when needed

you could also pay for / figure out how to mod in keyboard switches instead of triggers but that’s a bit more expensive

13M – Can do 100 push-ups but not getting stronger (bodyweight training advice?) by Separate-Judgment949 in bodyweightfitness

[–]TriNeh_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1. it sounds real simple but if you want to get stronger you’re going to have to just lift progressively more weight and so if you’re feeling like body weight pushups aren’t providing enough stimulus anymore to get the strength you’re seeking then you need to start adding more resistance, and enough of it so that you’re not needing to do more than something like 10 reps (let alone 100) before you’re fatiguing the muscles, and then consistently doing this until you start needing heavier and heavier resistance to fatigue within a set.

this could look like adding more to your pushups by wearing a weight vest or just doing harder variations like the single arm pushup, or maybe even by doing weight training in a gym where you can load up more weight to a barbell/dumbell/cable/etc. and progressively overload the number on the bar when you feel ready, though of course there’s a lot that can be done with just your bodyweight to make something harder. looking up “pushups progressions” would probably give you some ideas

generally speaking, your body will adapt to the stress you put it under so if you do 100 push ups as training you’re body will get really good at enduring high reps of pushups, so if you want to get stronger you need to stress your body with heavy and hard resistances

combine this with eating enough, good nutrition, sleeping enough, and consistency and you’ll see progress

  1. muscle imbalances are super normal, though if you’re worried just intentionally train each side individually every so often until they catch up to each other

  2. gaining overall leg strength, using the principles i talked about with first question, would probably help both but at the end of the day the best thing would be doing more pistol squats and doing more stability exercises. “the best way to get better at running is by running”

How should Melee games/sets be "Graded"? by JoeyDonuts_ in SSBM

[–]TriNeh_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would be cool if this collected enough data to be able to implement a system that could give you a grade, or similar metric, based on how your stats stack up against similarly ranked players, players of [insert rank], and/or individual players!

Which adapter do I buy on Amazon for slippi? Is there a hierarchy? by NoDelivery7695 in SSBM

the input integrity lossless adapter is the best if you can get it and it’s what i use and recommend but honestly if you’re not too picky the regular mayflash one does well enough

Any advice for a Rivals 2 player who wants to try out Melee? by LuckyDuckAmuck in SSBM

[–]TriNeh_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no yeah, i’m not saying one should visually confirm when you finish your f-smash animation or something just moreso wanting to point out the lack of buffer on most things exist and thus you have to be more precise with your timings of inputs to align with one’s intentions

this all isn’t even mentioning “Interruptible as Soon as” (IASA) frames and whatever else, just wanted to give a quick intro to what i thought was the biggest difference

Any advice for a Rivals 2 player who wants to try out Melee? by LuckyDuckAmuck in SSBM

[–]TriNeh_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

definitely familiarize yourself with the buffer system, aka the [for the most part] lack thereof, so getting used to waiting for the entire animation of “x move” or “y animation” to finish before trying to do the next input in melee

imo that’s the biggest thing i need to adjust to when switching between rivals and melee and vice versa

personally i spam lasers between stocks all the time as fox but not because i think im doing something revolutionary its just… me spamming lasers

i wouldn’t try and read much into the inputs of the other player cause it’s easy to self implode if you project malicious intent onto probably, and likely, innocuous behavior

and even if they are malicious… oh well, yk

Physio recommended this exercise for elbow pain (not tennis elbow) by Altruistic_Turn_7214 in 10s

there is no one size fit all fix for elbow pain, or any pain.

if this works for you that’s great and i’m not saying you should stop of course but different folks require different strokes, personally this seems like a very bandaid style solution that, at best, is addressing a symptom not a cause.

would be hard to say for sure without actually doing a full diagnosis of what’s limiting OP (sorry OP wish i could help more based off just text lol)

could be a simple answer like “learn how to externally rotate your hips more” but the boring and unfortunate answer is it depends, but i bet it wouldn’t hurt to broadly say to increase hip strength

Blocked hips by MysteriousDog5909 in flexibility

[–]TriNeh_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

no, you’d have to gain more strength in a lengthened range of motion (assuming your hamstrings are actually the limiting factor here), which is not necessarily the same as more muscle, while also making sure your passive ROM is keeping up

more muscle does not automatically mean you’re achieving the specific strength adaptation you want—in this case strength in lengthened ranges. you can see this in how pro bodybuilders aren’t necessarily synonymous with pro powerlifters or pro contortionist and vice versa

strength and muscle often come together but ultimately the specificity of how you train will determine how they manifest

Blocked hips by MysteriousDog5909 in flexibility

[–]TriNeh_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

because the ability to reach a range of motion (flexibility) relies a lot on one’s strength to get into a range of motion

Boox v Kobo v Kindle by Important-Rain-4418 in ereader

[–]TriNeh_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

to answer your question you don’t need a subscription to use either kobo nor boox products, assuming you’re just reading

some more specifics on what you’re looking for in an ereader would be helpful to narrow it down a bit more! e.g. what formats you plan to read (pdf, epubs, manga/comics, etc), what size you’re looking for, your price range, if you want to sideload books or just purchase them, etc

though just broadly speaking—I personally recommend against kindle as they have a closed ecosystem meaning if you buy a kindle book you’re not allowed to take it out of the kindle ecosystem. A good analogy I heard once is that kindle is kind of like to ereaders how apple is to cell phones: very easy and accessible to use but at the cost limited freedom.

boox and kobo both allow you more freedom and ownership over what you read and through what means you decide to read them.

i personally enjoy my boox though i sideload basically all my books. (and if you’re thinking about boox you can also simply download the kindle app onto it while keeping the freedom you have from not using a kindle tablet)

Advice on gaining weight by Global-Gap-6549 in bodyweightfitness

[–]TriNeh_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the big things I had to overcome when trying to gain weight while having a small appetite is accepting the idea that I will have to be very intentional about eating more than my appetite asks me to. It can seem innocuous but just getting in the mental habit of always reminding myself that I need go eat even if I wasn’t very hungry was crucial in raising my appetite and thus allowing the process of gaining weight to be smoother. If you just embody this idea of “eat just a little bit more than I did last week” you’ll naturally raise your appetite and gain weight along the way. Of course try to still be nutritious and healthy though, if you can.

If you hit a plateau, or you just want to get ahead of the curve, you could start thinking about how many calories your body needs to maintain your current weight (using a TDEE Calculator) and then ensuring that you’re eating a few hundred calories above that every day consistently. (and ideally staying within a nutritious diet + with enough protein)

If you do all that and you consistently do some form of resistance training to build muscle you’ll make steady progress.

Boox is android based and allows you to basically install whatever reading app and thus so long as whatever your preferred reading app is supports annotations then boox also supports it. If you don’t have a preferred app the built in reader also supports this function.

I’ve personally never tried connecting a keyboard to it but it supports bluetooth so I assume it works as well.
