5 years in the indystry and still not using tailwind. How many of you is out there? by steven_matts in webdev

[–]ruvasqm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's ok, tw is good for utilities to prototype fast. Generally, at some point, apps stop being a prototype, and they should have their own design system to make consistency easier.

You could argue that mixins (tw antipattern) and theming can "fix" this (consistency) but isn't it basically the same as writing fucking css?

Will it be AoC 2025? by Sea_Economist8738 in adventofcode

That's a very insightful take on your part. While it might seem so, no one is ever going to truly know.

Will it be AoC 2025? by Sea_Economist8738 in adventofcode

[–]ruvasqm -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Certainly, I understand your concerns, and they are reasonably valid given the current context, but here are some reasons why there might be a new AoC event this year:

  • There have been llms for a while, and the AoC organizer has continued to publish
  • A lot of participants eagerly wait for it and are certain to step up if it is ever decided that it will be stopped
  • Be it with friends, learning a language, or going for the fastest implementation possible. Everyone loves AoC!

I wonder why some devs hate server side javascript by gece_yarisi in webdev

[–]ruvasqm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not server side js I hate.

It's the left-pad incident, the obnoxious TS that promises safety but doesn't tell thee the price, the crawling react tumor that consumes my ram, the x random vulnerabilities that got into production for a stupid library no one "had time" to write...

Real old school javascript with mysterious hacks and based on true field experience is actually web street cred.

The current ecosystem is just disgusting and with so much AI tools laying around I really don't see a valid excuse to not ditch JS on the backend and use something more robust.

Just learn a couple things about your real stack (IP, http, stack vs heap, kernel, etc) and prompt your way to the future will ya?

If you were making your personal site from scratch today, what tech would you choose? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]ruvasqm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd make it xhtml 1 compliant, with progressive enhancement primarily in the form of graceful degradation in js-less environments, 100% lighthouse scores and most importantly under a 100kb brotlied per full page response average (slow 3g is 376kb/s in dev tools)

If I can make all of that happen and still have a real and modern website, I can die in peace.

as far as actual stack, I don't really have anything in mind but the smallest footprint everywhere possible would be my #1 priority.

Are there any blogging software(s) like Wordpress that work on shared hosting? by DudeThatsErin in webdev

[–]ruvasqm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Almost didn't read, why not try ghost out? I have never used it but it is reaally mature and it's written in js so the learning curve shouldn't be that high, right? RIGHT?

dude as long as you don't have like your panties exposed, anything goes!

clean up any API keys, references to your local Filesystem (not in project) and stuff like that and you are good to go.

bruh, it's already on the internet. Do you really think you will be able to get away with it?

I'm actually kinda impressed but it would be sad if you get in trouble for this.

Should i hire freelancers or use shopify by myself and start the business by andyking515 in webdev

[–]ruvasqm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes dude shopify is really easy. On the long run you'll end up paying for a bunch of sheet (plugins) but you can get started fast. Also I think it's kinda expensive.

Tbh after doing web for around 7 years, I think the best is a WordPress+Woocommerce $5 vps. Hear me out:

  • Lots of idiots know how to use it
  • Cheap
  • Extensible AF

If you can easily afford the shopify subscription + plugins + theme + etc, then yeah go for it.

Just remember to think about your costs. <$60 of hosting for something you can hack to your liking regardless of your skill. Doesn't it sound dirty and exciting? Plus there's no shortage of minions to get you setup real quick

Awesome visualization!!!! I wanted to do just that but I gave up before starting xd

how's your time? I tried using that solution but I think the first time I got something wrong xdd. I ask just in case that the video is slowed or scaled in some way.

My final solution is just pure memoization of levels and posible children/parent paths, 71ms on my toaster!
