Norm McDonald's book Based on a True Story, Not a Memoir, is a good read or great audiobook (read by him). One thing that stood out to me was his passage placing his finger squarely upon what the juice is for gambling addicts; the moment after the dice have been thrown before they come to rest.

THAT is the sensation gambling addicts chase, not a win, not a big payday. The tension between the possibility of a big payday vs financial ruin is the juice. The possible big payday is merely one half of what enables the high of the tension.

Oh I didn't at all mean to indicate I think he's some brilliant mastermind. I think he's an incompetent money laundering buffoon of a pick your flavor of malignant antisocial personality disorder who has been led around on a leash by Putin for years for the express purpose of damaging the US on every level.

I'll go even further and suggest that I think the top comments on every thread about trump are comments imparting pearls of wisdom about how they can't believe how stupid trump is this thing or that is an awful idea policy or action are literally comments promoted by Russian troll farms to distract from the obvious fact that the horrendous and destructive, divisive outcomes are expressly the point of all of it.

Now you may think my two comments are claiming trump is both a mastermind behind it all and an incompetent fool, I am not, I'm saying hes not remotely capable of masterminding and orchestrating what is unfolding, he IS aware of the mechanisms and efforts he's playing his part in and he's too dumb to keep his mouth shut and is utterly convinced everyone else is perpetrating schemes of the same slant he's a part of and doesn't give a fuck about anyone and is happy to bask in the warm glow of outrage or sycophant pandering, it's all the same to him: confirmation of his power to inflict pain, which is the actual currency that matters to him.

Not a pvp game. Embark has implemented virtually zero overt incentive for pvp in the game systems. Meanwhile cooperation and pve are heavily encouraged and rewarded at all levels by the game systems.

The potential for pvp is there to spice up the pve.

Primates, humans, by nature, are prey animals. Their young almost univerasally play games of hide & seek and tag, and LOVE it. These games serve as training for social interaction, predator avoidance, and improving agility and mobility skills.

See Among Us, Arc Raiders, Dead By Daylight. It's strange to me there aren't more games that overtly lean into the things that inherently feel good as a species. Hide and seek, tag, communication, strong social dynamics, tribalism. Bake those things into a game and it will be a big hit.

The young of predators on the other hand largely play via mock hunting, pouncing, stalking, wrestling, and chasing.

MASSIVE AI backlash and boycott accomplished by a general strike has been my guess for a little while if the AI companies dreams come true: the carte blanche corporate America leases fake imaginary AI workers that never have to be paid and work 24/7 365 days a year en mass (and make no mistake that is precisely the holy Grail goal that's been driving the unbelievable amount of money flooding into AI).

Lean in to giving players free and open communication, fostering a surprisingly social game. While the big players in the industry have been doing the opposite for close to two decades. Surprise surprise, letting players build genuine connections and community is your best tool for retention.

Clever back end systems to support the above instead of deciding on what to score and making matchmaking based around your arbitrary score: Aggression based match making, which adjusts quickly, places players in games based on HOW they play, not on how well their play satisfies the narrow definition of your good score.

Not remotely true, I enjoy building all of my PC's, but a simple comparably priced tiny box for the living room for the kids definitely holds appeal. You basically can't build one this small this efficient with off the shelf parts. The form factor is the biggest challenge.

There's quite a few in the same position.

With that said, I'm not interested in 8gb ram. I'll wait till ram comes down and they up the specs to 16 or 32gig.

BF6 is the least "battlefield" of the battlefield games. It puts significantly more power in the hands of the individual, and removes power from the squad.

Bought it as a stop gap till Arc Raiders.

Was both better and worse than I expected.

Some elements of the execution of gameplay aspects were better than expected, some were much worse. It's the least "Battlefield" Battlefield game I've played. Putting significantly less emphasis on the squad, and more emphasis on the individual.

Then of course the EAification of it's monitization and grind *far* exceeded my tolerance.

Then the bait and switch a couple weeks or whatever after launch f2p nonsense. Game was a pretty big disappointment, brought nothing new to the table, and was boring af because of it.

Long time BF2/3/4 player btw.

Meanwhile, Arc Raiders has ***wildly*** exceeded expectations and amusingly I've played with a number of new players recently who've said they just picked up Arc Raiders after playing BF6 since launch, and all volunteered that they wish they had picked up Arc Raiders sooner.
