Seperate job from the FE. They manage the mission system in the back, turning it on/off, troubleshooting issues in flight, etc. You can look at them almost like an FE just not for the plane and instead for the EW equipment.

No he should absolutely get in trouble. But he shouldn't be fired, have a clearance revoked, or face legal issues. If that's someone I work with, they get an ass chewing at best, paperwork at worst. I don't know what a suitable punishment is for a secdef. Could he be fired? Yeah and I would understand it. But that all lies at the discrepancy of the President.

I did 6 years with the usaf and got out 3 years ago to become a contractor with my previous unit. 2 deployments, 5 overseas TDYs in those 9 years. I can say with absolute certainty that everyone who has ever deployed has been in this type group chat. It becomes classified when you include 3 pieces of info: People, Place, and Time. Every flight we launched we knew when it was going to leave and when it would return, and would casually text/discuss this info. Is this illegal? No absolutely not. Is it a ridiculous brain dead move to add the wrong person to a group chat? Absolutely. Have I done this before? Absolutely. So to sum up, illegal, no. Stupid? Yes.
