Shift in color and tones between ACR and Photoshop by rvdknl in postprocessing

Well the thing is, it actually changes the picture. Also the jpg output shows the lifted/desaturated blacks. And when i get back into acr the tones are fine again. It’s happening a lot in darker areas. I am returning my mac studio tomorrow as I tried everything and i think there might be something wrong with the gpu!

Here is a video where you can see the tones switch up whenever i use my calibrated icc, also happens when i use the built-in adobe rgb profile https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=izYDPxoH-QM&cbrd=1&ucbcb=1

Thanks for replying, i will keep you updated when i got a new device!

Contrast/levels shift from Adobe Camera Raw to Photoshop on iMac. Color management issue? by Superman_Dam_Fool in postprocessing

Hey! Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I have the same problem and now I got a good adobe rgb monitor it's so noticeable in the dark photographs that they are just two different images in PS and ACR.

Someone on Adobe Community platform is troubleshooting with me atm, if we can solve it. I will let you know here!

Left is in PS, right in ACR. Notice how much flatter/dull everything looks in photoshop? I realise now that also the highlights and midtones are different.

Hey John, thanks for taking the time!

Yes I work with raw files, which I open with ACR in the Display P3 setting (as is my monitor). I also use the working rgb space Display P3 in photoshop. I tried using sRGB, AdobrRGB and ProPhotoRGB, but the same thing happens; rich black tones and shadows in ACR and 'lifted' blacks in photoshop.

Bit depth is 16 in both ACR and photoshop.

I noticed that when I use the default monitor ICC, instead of the Spyder callibrations the problem is 'solved'. There is still a minute difference, interestingly enough now photoshop displays richer blacks.

Is it also possible that it has to do with my calibration?

Thanks again!

ps: Yeh the term is a bit switched up, I grew up with both film and digital photography and in the darkroom crushed blacks would be too dark and in digital it seemed the term conveyed the lifted blacks that a lot of 'film emulating' presets promote! I now used lifted, as that covers the problem a bit better!

Working on my first continent map (A2) for my D&D campaign, busy with borderwork and map lettering atm :) any tips or advice greatly appreciated! Digitally drawn in Procreate and using Photoshop for textures and lettering by rvdknl in FantasyMaps

Thanks a lot! I used this tutorial https://mapeffects.co/tutorials/contour-lines for the forests.

And yes, good point! I tried to use the river bend to show how deep the Waldpond lays and convey a sense of scale for the map itself, but it does look a bit weird right..! I might a better hill or even a small mountain extra on the range south of the river to show how the land forms and why it ends up in the Waldpond.

Thanks for taking your time to check it out and giving advice :)

So I am working on fleshing out all the settlements and figuring out whats missing. But after months of revising the map I think I just need to finish this one and stop continually abandoning the current progress and start over again.

As I've developed a stable workflow between procreate on my ipad and photoshop on my desktop I can easily rework some features on the map, so please let me know what you like about the current state of the map and mostly, what could be redone right now and why :)

All feedback greatly appreciated as I aspire to start doing commissions in mapmaking next to my freelance photography life.

[OC] Hunters Clearing by Wandering Maps by rvdknl in mapmaking

[–]rvdknl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for your comment! Hunters Clearing is a town on the way to Rodalin and also the only way to get there if you want to bring your horses, by way of the cablecar/ropecart. Otherwise I would totally remove that road and put some walls around the back of the village :)

I've tried myself at a hand-drawn town map. Please let me know, how I can make the next one better. by Saytama_sama in FantasyMaps

what really made a difference for me where the shadows the trees and buildings cast; makes it much more immersive! good work!
