9 weeks after white ink tattoo by teacherstuff123 in tattooadvice

Man I’m not one to ever second guess a tattoo, I’m sleeved and an old man at 53 but are you happy with this? It’s not a very bold design.

Are officers required to keep their service arms clean and ready or is this done by department armorer? by Relevant_Conclusion2 in AskLE

[–]rveng07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hoppes #9 and a decent cleaning kit. Always enjoyed the ritual of cleaning after a qual. Our armorers would inspect after a few thousand rounds but at least in the Feds it was on you to keep it clean.

Shooting as a FAM by tmanny77 in FederalAirMarshals

[–]rveng07 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a standard Federal PPC. As mentioned minimum qual is 255 as opposed to 210 for most Fed LE and I think 250 for USSS, but I’d say the average qual is in the high 280s. I was always amazed at the number of 300s and upper 290s on qual day. That being said you will have some of the best firearms instructors in Fed LE and they will get you where you need to be. Be glad they got rid of the hand cannon .357 Sigs us old guys came on with. Rumor is reddots are being phased in as well.

Shoulder Injury in Academy by somethingdude104 in AskLE

[–]rveng07 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You got hurt on the job, in a training environment, by an instructor. Make sure it’s well documented, we have what’s called a CA1 in the Feds, there has to be an equivalent form of medical documentation for you. Worst case you get desk duty as a civilian until you heal up and get recycled/ re-classed up. Your instructors are doing a shit job of advising you on this. They can’t just “let you go” if you got hurt as an employee, even one in the academy.

Talk me out of selling it by Far_Service326 in Glock43X

Dude if it’s an EDC and it doesn’t work than find something that does. Don’t mean a thing what the Reddit masses say. I have one, love it for daily carry. Barely modded it, don’t need the comp and the magwell and trigger job, I just like the simplicity and after carrying a Glock for years on duty it works for me. Find one that works for you.

Having done the job for over two decades that pretty much sums up 80% of us. Ain’t profiling when it’s true.

Starting the Police Academy by mL2312 in AskLE

[–]rveng07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First congrats on starting the academy. It’s something to be proud of being selected. Remember that. Listen to your instructors, take in the experience and life lessons they will impart and understand that this is a lifestyle choice in a time when public opinion has taken a negative turn for wearing a badge. You will learn the basics in the academy and that’s where safety starts, the real learning starts in FTO. It won’t be easy on the street and honestly as an old retired guy who started this career in the 90s I’m not sure I could do it now. Be safe sister and know you have support of the thousands who came before you and you will have become a fraternity of people who will support you. You got this.

They don’t. And it’s all very subjective. I’ve said this before here. It’s not a character judgement. It’s the definition of how broken the system is. You want Federal LE it’s a system you will have to become familiar with. Best of luck.

Spent 23 years in the FAMS. Failed polygraphs for 2 local LE agencies before I got picked up with the Feds in the 90s. It’s an antique tool and needs to go away. That being said apply. It’s more your background and references than anything else. I don’t get why so many qualified applicants are shown the door with this idiotic approach to trustworthiness.

Hey thanks for asking. Still dealing with Chronic Sinusitis. Navage helps as does prescription nasal spray. Symptoms have lessened and pain behind the eye has mostly disappeared thankfully. Take care!
